Since our initial run with the TOYATO (Not what you thought it said) 4 Wheel Drive RC Truck, we've learned a few things and in most cases it's because of our awesome viewers! We wanted to pass that knowledge on to you guys and show you this truck running again in a slightly different style. Since Abby is now only 4 weeks away from her scheduled due date, we didn't want to hike around a lake and be five miles away from our car, so we did some local "trailing" at the park. Hope you guys enjoy this video! We had a lot of fun getting out and making it :-)

Hey guys, I'm 55rs but I just want have fun like both of you. There are a lot of people who are very hard-core RC folks, thus I tell them when I meet them that I'm not hard-core, that way they keep their $400 tips and their crumpy attitudes to themselves...LOL. Great advise show!

Good morning RcSaylors & the RC family! I found this update review to be personally honest from both, Nate's & Abby's different perspectives. It's really, what set's this channel apart from most RC channels & we as hobbyists, should recognize their uniquely honest reviewing & yes, even mistakes that they and the rest of us, all make & learn from! That said, unless, of course, you think that only your opinion matters, and feel compelled to leave a nasty & unwanted comment - & you know who you are! (Just a hint to you nasties, out there, I think most of the followers of this channel, really don't read your comments, unless you change your style, to positive critism, it's going to simply be a waste of your time, especially if you get blocked!) Sooo, I'm calling for civil, family-friendly comments, that all hobbyists can safely read, learn from, & be suitable for young & old, alike. I don't think it's too much to ask for...Have a great day! JP

Well said John Poen, I totally agree with you and I would say everyone else who come to this channel for some good old fashioned family friendly content..Yep you will always get those nasties, but some people are like that. The RC Family that is here is all that matters and those whom want to join in later on are welcome..The nasties will come and go..

🙄 for crying out loud, you guys aren't doing custom builds, you are giving opinions on rc vehicles and the like....you don't have to get all kinds of technical about it....your basic overviews are informative and give people an overall idea about it....geez people, ease up a bit

It looks like the tamiya bruiser big time, a lot cheaper n rtr, I think the tamiya kit is awesome cus u get to build it but for $800 I think I’d rather just take this apart n put it together for the experience 😆

I've been looking more into kits lately than RTR. By putting it together yourself you're already familiar with how it all goes together (and comes apart) rather than having to figure it all out after you've broken something. -- Earlier today I was eyeballing the new (yet to be released) Axial SCX10 II "builder's kit". You get everything for a "rolling chassis", then add your own wheels, tires, body, electronics. It just kind of makes sense, most RTR rigs come with inferior electronics and steering servo that you end up replacing with what you wanted in the first place. You usually end up buying different wheels and tires, and often a different body. So why not just start out with a rolling chassis and add the stuff you want in the first place.

I've been wondering about this unit, 1st video i've seen on it, which gave a better perspective of its capibilaties then i had. Thicker grease in fromt axle may help w/o giving up steerability (still needs servo). P.S. keep up the good work, always enjoy your work.... Thx...

Don’t accomodate for the haters mate. You make fantastic buy and drive videos. There are plenty of comparison videos of this car. This truck is a clone what people should want to know is how it drives and see in your videos what it looks like driving and how it feels driving... precisely what you do in your videos. Keep up the great content and stay true to what you do so you don’t end up like the sheep following other people’s content. Your videos are good for a reason.

Spinning the tire and the other tire spins backwards is exactly how they would check to make sure we had an open or limited slip rear end in our full size racecar. Having a locked rear end on a real racecar isn't really an advantage for most since most people can't drive a locked rear end anyway without constantly spinning out. If you've ever drive a real hotrod with a locked rear end you would know how difficult it is, hit the accelerator too hard and next thing you know you're spun around facing the wrong direction. Our driver could drive a locked rear end though so we would "shim" the axles with brass washers; it would pass inspection but when it heated up the washers expended and it would effectively lock the rear end. -- You won't find locked front ends on any full size car except for "dedicated" off-road vehicles. On pavement locked axles really wear the tires out and it's very difficult to get it to turn. -- I think this is an awesome truck for the price; metal leaf springs, hard shell body, 3 speed transmission, semi full interior (would be nice if it was full depth so you could put action figures in as driver without having to cut off their legs.) And as I stated on a previous video, to me half the fun is working on the truck to get it to perform better. It's no fun if you just pull it out of the box and there's really nothing you can do to improve it. -- I'm really impressed with the stability of this truck, it's able to go side hill without easily rolling, even with the high weight of a hard body on it. Some wheel weights would really help get the center of gravity low, and give it better traction. Can't add too much though or you start wearing out bearings and breaking steering knuckles. -- About all I would do for starters on this truck is replace the servo and linkage. Get some softer tires with some nice meaty tread, and some beadlock wheels. Experiment with adding weight in different locations. And as I always do... grease the axles, bearings, transmission gears, etc., and maybe the spring shakles. Greasing it up not only makes it last longer, it makes it run a lot quieter. The electronics in it "sound" good; I really can't stand high pitch "whining" ESC's, that just drive me nuts. It would be fun to see a "follow me" video with this truck vs Abby's. Can be difficult to drive and video at the same time though. I usually just set the camera on the ground or on a very low tripod. Drive past the camera then move it to the next location. Wish I lived nearby; I have a wearable 3-axis gimbal I mount in the bed of one of my trucks to get cool video of other vehicle driving past. Difficult to do by myself though since I can't drive two trucks at the same time. So the best I've been able to do is use the throttle trim to make the camera truck crawl, then drive the other vehicle past it. I have a cable cam rig I'll hopefully get by next month that should make it easier to get cool shots like that.. except it too is remote control so it won't be a whole lot different than trying to drive two trucks at the same time.

John Poen: Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoy my ramblings :> Unfortunately I don't have any videos on youtube, I deleted them all in 2017 because I got tired of fighting scam music copyright claims. I was getting 2 or 3 copyright claims on every video I uploaded, using 80 and 90 year old Public Domain music, music I had paid for the right to use, and even on MY OWN music I wrote performed and recorded myself. I then moved my videos to my own web site, which turned out to be very expensive to find web hosting that is fast enough to host videos and with enough storage. And even though I am paying for hosting that claims to specialize in video, they complain that I have too many files (not that I'm using too much space, just that I have too many files). And recently they moved to a new supposedly faster server and ever since my site doesn't work at all. So I've been pondering what to do... re-edit my videos to remove all music since youtube allows scam copyright claims. Or try to find new hosting for my own video site in a price range I can afford. I'm not sure there actually is a hosting service that won't whine and complain no matter how you pay them. I've had numerous web sites and domain names, and ran an internet radio station for 30 years (since 1987), and have had to deal with a lot of whining and complaining over the years from hosting services. //end rant

@@DFDuck55 Oh, I think I have the picture, now. So, if you aren't being bombarded with nasty comments, like the Salors, are. Or, someone is always looking to discredit you, in some other, neferious way! And all you are doing, is trying to get your content online (somehow, without being pestered or sued!), it looks like, one is trying to navigate through a 'gator invested swamp! Man, this has really opened my eyes to just how terribly challenging, this whole thing can be. I for one, appreciate, very much, your report of your past dealings & circumstances. I wish you luck in finding a solution to your challenges! JP

John Poen: What ticked me off more than scam companies claiming copyright on music and putting ads on my videos which I have never put ads on, is that youtube "allows" and "facilitates" these scam companies. They are always in countries known for scamming, like India. They "may have" at one time included an old Public Domain blues or jazz track on a compilation CD, but that doesn't give them any legal right to claim copyright on it. Having ran an internet radio station for 30 years I am fairly well versed in U.S., Canadian, and European music copyright laws. Studying copyright law is some "very dry" reading :> The real kicker though was the copyright claims on MY music, which I have always released into the Public Domain and have never been copyrighted. And yet they never offered to pay ME royalties for claiming copyright on MY music. Once something is released into the Public Domain you can't then copyright it, ever. -- I have been pondering though about re-producing some of my RC and drone videos "with NO music" and starting a new youtube channel for them. I have never done "review" videos or "unboxing" videos though. My niche was always to try to make "realistic" RC videos where it's difficult to tell it's an RC and not a real truck. And a big reason why I've always been into scale trail and crawling RC's rather than bashing. Besides not wanting to spend $100+ to repair broken trucks every time I take it out for a 15 minute bash session, flying a truck 30 to 100 scale feet in the air just doesn't look realistic to me. Scale realism is something I've been into since I was a kid in the late 1950's. My brother and I were big into building model cars, setting up scenes and photographing them. Though our scenes would often turn into UFO crash sites or a UFO flying in the background... that was just a popular subject back in the late 50's and 60's :>

Hey Nate and Abby, thank you for your review on the HG P407. Your reviews helped me make the decision to pick one up last September. Out of the box, it needs at least the modification on the steering. Once you get that done, it becomes truly a fun truck. I recently decided to relocate the battery to the front and get rid of the bulky electronic box to help shave off some weight and shift the weight distribution making the front end a bit more heavier all for just a few bucks for aluminum angles. It has now become truly respectable crawler as well as being a great trail truck. I recently started to post some videos on HG P407 on youtube. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks again for your continued reviews. Much appreciate it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYq5oZKZlqqNkK8

love your video, but if your not in the mood for a few months of building and putting the Tamiya truck together, plus paying it's hefty $450+ price tag for the kit that doesn't come with a controller then this is a great vehicle. Plus i'd recommended the Redcat Racing 1/10 Everest-10 Rock Crawler seeing as your into rock crawlers right now. It's right on the $100 price tag on Tower Hobbies website.

You guys are just awesome and make rc's fun. I just picked this truck up myself for under $200 on sale at banggood. I always wanted an official bruiser but never liked the price. So it was either $1,000 for an official bruiser kit OR less then $200 for a rtr bruiser replica and have money left over to feed my family. I think I made the rite move, lol. Keep up the great work guys and continue having fun and being yourselves 😎👍

You two keep doing what you're doing. Nate' s enthusiasm cracks me up! I think it's a cool truck, it needs a little help, but they all need something, right? I think they are made to be played with. I like to tinker with them anyways. People give me a hard time for piecing together an old nitro rustler into an electric buggy with an automobile air compressor motor, homemade Lipo batteries and bits. My MN D90 stays tore down, from either me or one of my sons, found the next weakest part! People need to relax and remember what it's all about. Sure, I would like to have a gen 8 or senton, or alot of others, as far as that goes. I just work with what I got. You guys rock! I've rambled on too long! Great job demonstrating differential action!

Good job on locking the diff. I agree that the price is right for this truck and I have always wanted the Tamiya version but way too much money. The only reason I posted on the other video was too let people know where this trucks heritage lay. Nate what I would love to see is a video of when you lock the front diff and fix the steering servo and linkage. I have found most of your videos insightful, even the ones focused on things I have no interest in. Enough said except keep up the good work and have a great day. If you lock you diffs then don't go on the roads. Locked diffs are only for off road as the gear system has a chance to unwind on bumps and soft ground.

Locking the rear differential definitely improved the performance of this truck. It would be interesting to see if locking the front improves it further. An advantage of a (relatively) inexpensive truck like this, that is mostly good but has room for improvements, is the learning experience of doing the upgrades; for example, you mentioned the tires and steering servo. That could be fun and educational vs. a truck that already is maxed out with everything perfect.

This is just a knock off of the Tamiya Bruiser truck. This is not supposed to be a competition crawler truck. The Bruiser is not a high performance truck either. It is just supposed to look cool and be fun to drive. I have a MST CFX truck that I like just for crawling. The kit costs more than this whole truck. Think about that, and I also had to build it and buy everything needed to get it ready to run. I think part of the fun of the hobby is to build the kit. It seems that this may have been lost today. I do own this kit, but I also have the rerelease of the Tamiya Bruiser too. It took a day just to build the 3 speed transmission on the Tamiya Bruiser and to get it to work correctly. To build the Tamiya Bruiser all the way took me about 3 weeks. Why, because I also needed to work and take care of my family. Honestly, I just had good time and it was relaxing too. I like build and paint my R/C cars. I own well over 20 different cars. They all have a different performance perimeters. I think many people want to buy one ready to run R/C car to basically to do everything. I like the idea but it just does not work. What do you think?

I'd be the exact same person as you (in regards to building) however I just dont have the time. I respect those who can and do build their own kits. I suppose my "build" is my KZbin channel. I started it from the ground up as well, putting it together piece by piece, one very small step at a time. I think that if I didnt take so much time to edit, reply to comments, upload and more I too would love to build my RCs 👍⚓😃

@@TheRcSaylors I totally understand. I usually do not have the time either because of family. I am not complaining, about that. Family, with wife and kids is great. You are so lucky to have a wife that likes R/C stuff. My wife wanted a Mercedes car. I got her the Tamiya Mercedes 190. It is very cool looking. She does not really care about the car. I also got her the Tamiya Volkswagen Golf. I have purchased several R/C cars for my kids too. Any chance you might do a review of the Tamiya Volkswagen Type II bus? You guys are awesome :) I learned the locked differential hack with my first tamiya cc01, I locked the back axle with the included locker, and left the front open. Well, I have a steep section on my crawler course at the cottage, and was having trouble climbing. After I locked the front too, it climbed right up no problem! Also, most RTR servos and tires are usually weak points.

If you're worried about breaking it, be at ease that the Tamiya parts will fit since it's a direct copy with maybe a slight 1% difference in some parts. Given that, you can probably use the Tamiya Bruiser or Mountain-Rider manual that does have some english instructions. www.tamiya.com/english/rc/rcmanual/58519.pdf. Great that you're learning as you have fun. Abby's Vaterra Ascender is much more modern, and a great crawler at that. Should also take a look at AmPro's comparison between this truck and the Tamiya Bruiser - kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3rRm5yvra1lZqM

Nate your absolutely right it’s an awesome scaler truck. The original Tamiya Bruiser is identical to this one. I would rather pay the $229.00 than the $800 from Tamiya and get the same thing. The steering servo on the Tamiya is also garbage so yeah the clone is a much better option. Tamiya needs to sit back and look very closely on their prices for their RC’s.

I don't think your description of what a differential is for was correct Nate, but it's ok, it didn't make me "cringe" because I'm not a jumped-up elitist a$$h@. 🤣 I don't know about the Tamiya Bruiser but the original Tamiya Toyota Hilux that it's based on had realistic lockable wheel hubs (which lock the diffs)... which could be just one more reason why it's so much more expensive.

😆 I didn't even know there were Tamiya knock offs. My first RC car was a Tamiya Rough Rider. Bought and built in 1981. I'm dating myself here. A year later the Hi-luxe came out and I wanted it bad, but could never swing it then. The RR was $109 and the Toyota was IIRC about $299, but came with a 3-speed transmission. Always sat at the back of my mind to get it eventually. Guess it was about 10 or so years later, the hog wild bruiser came out for $600+. Liked it but sat on back burner wishlist. Saw it again for 850, but now you say it's nearly $1,000? Thanks for showcasing it. Maybe I'll pick this one up just to fulfill that wish list. But I rather suspect I'll still want the real McCoy after I retire in a few more years. LOL. Anyhoo, I enjoy your channel, keep it up👍

Keep up the good work. BTW, changing subject here. Anybody ordered anything from bangood after oct 1st? I thought that's when tariffs to the US on electronics kicked in. How does that work? Anybody know? Isn't it on the vendor side (so that'd be banggood) they have to adjust their prices accordingly? Or could your stuff get hung up in customs. Just curious. Thanks to anybody that might know. Oh yeah. Sorry Nate. Abby's ride not only performs better but looks better also. :) That's okay this is one of those times you just give her a tip of the cap and say "you win."

How dare you!!!! Having fun is considered illegal unless you pre-purchased the appropriate permit!! It's a model of a Toyota Hilux, if you called it a Toyota then you were correct. The manufacturer of this clone can't call it a Toyota as they didn't pay the price so you get the scrabble tiles to badge the vehicle as it should be if you wish. There is no such thing as a TOYATO FFS!!!🤣🤣 Now to rewind and watch properly! Great stuff!!

Hi Nath I watched your review on the p407 and you said that you'd had 20mins out of the stock battery. I also have a p407 and love it so much. I've sorted the steering servo, changed the shocks as the stock ones leak, re-timed the motor, changed the ESC for a waterproof one with a drag brake. Put a lighting kit and sound system in it. I've also repainted it red and striped it in yellow and black. I've also taken off the chrome cab and built a full back with opening boot lid so I can put my zop 11.1 volt 8000mah 2cell lipo with deans plug in there. I've scaled up the interior with a driver, CB radio, a dog, full colour change and opening windows plus moving steering wheel. I'm just on with changing the bumpers and adding a remote winch. Also I'm waiting on some decals for it of tigers heads to put on the bonnet. I'm waiting on a roof rack and an assortment of boxes and tanks plus elastic netting to keep it all in place plus a scale aerial, a led light bar and a boat trailer and tow bar for to tow my RC boat down to the lake and drive it into the water so as to launch my speed boat from it. Which is also another one of the boats that you reviewed. The wltoys T01 With 3 spare batteries. This boat absolutely flies, as I put 7.4 volt 2cell lipo with 2500 may through it. The car is excellent and once the boat is on the water, it flies. The car and trailer once the boat has come away. Looks as to scale as you can get and looks really fantastic. I'll, send you a video of it when it's all done and working properly. Best regards Rob Sanderson from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England.

I had an original Bruiser and sold it ten years ago. I've been kicking myself ever since. I started looking for another one a few years ago and came across the HG version. I wish I would've picked one up sooner. These things are great! With a few mods you can beat on it without feeling bad unlike an original. I use to be a Tamiya purist but no longer. Ignore the haters dude, the are just jealous that you are out in the fresh air with your wife having fun! If they can't have fun with their toy cars then stuff them. Locking both differentials will have a massive + impact on it's off-road ability. If you want some easy mods and the wheel hexs are 12mm i'd dump those gash tyres and fit some budget friendly soft rubber Austar 4020 / 5020 tyres, swap the motor for a Gool RC 540 55t crawler motor and get a 25kg standard size waterproof servo from one of the Chinese sites and you are sorted Half the fun is modifying these cheap trucks to be 100 times better than the price pound.

Hey guys in my original comments I didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feather or any thing like that. I was merely pointing out the obvious which normally you guys do any way. And lets be honest this isn't the first knock off you've had on the channel that I'm aware of. I understand why your doing what your doing on here. You want to get more people involved in a hobby that the entire family can enjoy at almost every age. Like you I remember when this hobby took hour to get started and cost a lot more money. With the innovation of electric motors and battery power in the cars and trucks and than in the air planes copters and boats it began come in to it's own. Although i think the Quad copters really pushed things along. Now here we are with the knock off's. So what if it looks like some other company's work not everyone in the hobby has $1000.00 to throw down on an RC toy that they may find to be more expensive than they originally thought to have fun with. The guys that race and build there own know what I'm talking about here... don't you guy? I know people that race and going out and dropping $1500.00 to $2500.00 for a new car or a truck isn't as uncommon as most people would like to think. Not to mention the up keep if you race. New ties, motors, tie rod's,batteries, at least two chargers with multiple connection options, parts boxes and tool boxes filled to the brim some times worth more than the race model it self at many racing events. On a lighter note I like what you two do and I hope you continue to do what your doing for the hobby. Anyone that give you a negative reaction you should just send to the other end of this hobby. Down in the deep part of the pool where the guys and gals that race swim give them something to chew on for a while. I know first hand what a competitive pack of wolves they can be. They'll have no problem chewing up the trolls and spiting back the bones. hope to see a lot more of you guys in the future An Nate; Build Abbe a drone big enough to support the new baby so she won't have to buy a stroller.

Oh my,I have to totally disagree with you on this one. From the get go it was pretty much a looser. It's expensive for what it doesn't do. To make it a good truck your going to have to spend 50$ or more to do that. You have had less expensive better trucks. Abby's truck while different is versatile. The upgrades for this would put it in Abby's truck ball park. I've never so totally disagreed with you before. FORGIVE me😭😭😭😭. This truck just hit me wrong. 😔😔😔😔. Still your loyal patron.😓😓

Don’t feel bad, Stan. I pretty much echo your sentiments. Depending on how much the upgrades cost, there probably will still be a meaningful difference once you factor in the cost of the battery needed for Abby’s vehicle, as well as some kind of charger if you don’t already have a suitable one. That said, whatever the difference, it’s probably worthwhile to get the nicer out-of-the-box vehicle as long as the budget allows for it.

Yeah and consider the cost of good tires are going to cost anywhere from $70 to $100 bucks more and a new $30 servo and say $50 for good oil filled shocks and your in the premium price range where you get a nice crawler with all the bells and whistles up front. After making the upgrades you could’ve got a Traxxas Crawler for $400 such as the very nice LandRover. This car is nice and if you want this actual truck it really doesn’t matter what the costs are as long as it’s something you personally want and I really think Nate loves this Truck like that and that’s why he’s taking offense to the criticism.

Stan, I agree with your logic about having to spend more to get this truck up to a better standard. However, I think you need to look again at their 1st video, and how "taken" Nate was, with the looks of this truck, it's unique leaf-springs & many other things that he, obviously, was really excited about. Sometimes, a desire for better and still awesome, trumps the added cost...Just my opinion...JP

Planes draw people that are super generous and supportive, surface draws people that will threaten to cut you if you like electric and they like nitro. Not everyone of course I've met tons of good people in surface but plenty of bad. I've never however met anyone who wanted to argue about planes. No need to send hate comments my way, it's just my experience. Im happy to fly or bash with anyone. Electric, nitro, or gas. It's all about fun and getting the toys daddy wouldn't buy. Replace every bearing in this Kit HG P407 ,bad Tolerances bearing races literally just fall apart! Every bearing even means the transmission shafts, the larger gear set in the transmission with the shift forks go on has to be taken apart and bearing on the gears can and do also fail, after that you can shim it at the diff pinion or anywhere else the Gears could be shifting under pressure, traxxas #1985 PTFE coated shims work well and i have sanded some on 1000 grit to make them even thinner to get that perfect fit! after that this kit is just as good or even better than the kit it knocks off and the slipper from the 2012 rere bruiser will fit with some modifications which is on youtube somewhere? it can be converted to full time 4WD in all gears with a few extra aftermarket parts also, this also is on youtube! 2.000.000 weight silicone oil in the diffs helps also if you dont want to lock the diffs solid,it also works on all types of geared diffs of any type to improve traction without sacrificing tight turning radius! steering servo is ok its the spring on the servo saver that is weak point which can be swapped out with a tamiya type or go AMPRO for a front servo conversion mount..

And that is the hole point and we all need to just have fun in this hobby what ever you are driving. I do like this truck and yes it is a clone Of one of Tamiya RC's and that is not right to do that I Know! But it is a good RC and it works well! Plus this one is a RTR so more will get it and run it and have fun with it as a RTR over a Kit. And the ones that made it have shown all of us and Tamiya that it can be made for a lot less that they still charg for Tamiya's Kit! So why did they just bump up there price for the same kit? So I like this truck and the price and that it is a RTR now more will get it and they will love it and thats ok. Keep making your video's the same way that you do and have fun and I will watch them. Thank You.
