The Color Country Layout Open House 2021. Part one, the Sun River Group's garden railroads. Desert railroading at its best!
Every year the Color Country Model Railroad Club in Saint George Utah hosts an open house of their layouts. This week, we tour four of the garden railroads for the Sun River Group. Sun River is a development just south of Saint George Utah right on the Arizona border. Sort of a retirement - golf community model railroading has really taken off as a hobby here. All scales, indoor and out, anything fun! The four layouts are:
Bryan & Linda Enarson's indoor "garden" railroad. Part of Sun River is the hobby garages. An area of large heated and air-conditioned these "shops" allow for just about any fun hobby, in this case, an LGB G gauge table-top layout. The overhead door can be opened making it sort of like an outdoor layout. The large shop is also a great place to just kick back or build models or whatever. Hum... Sort of like garagemahal!
Next up Keith and Mona Johnson. A monster 500 foot G gauge mixing LGB and mostly Bachmann trains. Just off the golf course, the views are GREAT!. Ideas for our own railout abound.
Onto the home of Larry & Peggy Schneider. A compact layout still featuring a lot of tracks. Three trains running! A photo backdrop that is mind-blowing and a digital control system. A lot of railroading in a small space. See.. anyone can fit a garden railroad, even a large one if you just plan it out well.
And lastly Ron Smith. Again LGB track and trains. Four trains running together! A large area that is well thought out so there is still a lot of open yard with the trains mostly running the perimeter.

Dale & Karyn, On the part of the entire club, thanks so much for visiting the CCMRRC annual Layout Tour again this year and showing the internet universe our version of the best hobby in the world ! We were most gratified this year to see the exceptional turnout from the community over the event’s four day run. You two are always welcome every November to see more.

It is always good to see other modelers and there layouts. Garden layouts are one of the Best and hardest to maintain with the weather always wanting to reclaim the land and everything around it. I give them alot of admiration to the layouts they have accomplished. It's like building a real railroad with all the obstacles.. Be safe and see you on Tuesday. 👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

Yesterday, I loved my garden railroad. Today, after seeing these layouts, I'm giving it up. LOL! Jaw dropping layouts. Mega jealous. And, I think I had that same American Flyer, too.

Great garden railways. A bit jealous of those living in an arid climate. In my climate, I probably spend more time weeding the main line than running it. A pet peeve (please forgive me). Quite a few runaway engines there, however.... Maybe it is just me, but in large scale, you gotta put a person in the cab of your loco. Don't run them without figures. Even a guy in there with a scotch bottle in his hand and passed out at the throttle would be okay if you want a runaway train.... But don't run large scale without figures! In the caboose too. People figures add so much even in the trains.

If you ever are in west Texas, you need to check out the American Windmill Museum. They have tons of historical windmills but they also have a huge G scale layout. It is completely automated and it has over 3000 feet of track.

Have most of them here, but have to run them Willy nilly outside. Trying to build and stop renting - but the lumber !!! Have had the property forever.

I've been following you for the last four or five years, from Barcelona in Spain. Obviously I love trains and I love USA. You've helped me to improve my English, I usually see your videos with subtitles but I understand most of them because you both speak clearly. And moreover I've seen many things related with trains I don't have time to see when I go to the USA. I've been there four times but just as a tourist for two or three weeks. Thanks for this interesting video and for the other hundreds of them 🤣 My best wishes for both. Good luck and health for many many more years and videos to come 😘

Hello!!!! We love your story. Karyn and I were both teachers. I film and sound at university and she taught English as a second language in the public schools. Her job was MUCH harder. The nuance of how words are pronounced. The lost and gained concepts. Most of her students were new to America. Their parents often spoke no English. And the kids mostly learned from other kids. Most spoke Spanish but many other languages as well. Language is hard. I so deeply respect people who master multiple languages. I went to school for a time in Paris. I never did master French. Not even close. It’s hard. Very very hard. My hats off to you. (Does that expression translate?).

All those were so nice, especially the “independent” loop layout with the grass area. And that leads me to the this question: At about 15:20 in your video there is one train that loops the grass going counter-clockwise and a couple seconds later another train passes the same spot going clockwise on the same piece of track…So is the switch also changing polarity or are these locomotives powered with batteries and using an RC system? Thanks!
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 2 жыл бұрын
No track power.. not sure… on my old layout I had a loop to loop single track. LGB makes it simple. The polarity of the main changes when the train enters the loop at either end. There is a detector. I don’t remember how it works but it’s off the shelf LGB and it works really great.

Not there… too much water perhaps.. but the land, especially on the Arizona side is worthless. Millions of acres of rocks and scorpions. Until they but roads, power and mostly WATER on it it isn’t useful for much.

Let’s hope not and be prepared for the worst. Thankfully we have garagemahall. We spent a year there. Alone. Building stuff. If need be we will do it again. Several friends and family hit Covid. Three ended up in the hospital. One died. And dozens of subs here. And old friends too. Betting about 50 with Covid. Three died. So we lock down. And build stuff.
