Your back door latch actuator assembly is going bad. You can get OEM or aftermarket unit from Amazon.

I'm having an issue with my 2nd gen liftgate where it will open fine but upon closing it the liftgate has a false sensor trigger beep right before the latch is even touched and the liftgate just goes back up. If I "help" the liftgate by pushing it down just slightly as it's closing then it will close all the way no problem without the false sensor trigger. Do you think it's something in the motor? Maybe just getting weak?

If the lift gate motor is having wearing out issue, it will stop intermittently in the beginning. Then stop completely. The rear door latch assembly was having a contact issue inside the unit on my 2012, after replacing the unit and reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 15 mins, my hatch door works without the beeps. You can get the door latch unit from Toyota or Amazon.

@ Well again, it’s not even closing to the point to try and latch. It will open fine. And will close like 95% of the way. Then it thinks there’s an obstruction and goes back up. The latch mechanism isn’t even getting close enough to the point where it can even try to lock. The door latch is perfectly aligned with the hook as it closes.

@@ericchen2325 Just replaced the brushes today and now the liftgate closes completely every single time. One brush was completely broken off and not making contact with the copper core and the other looked like it was in tact but it was broken in half. Cheap fix only $8!

@@supergrendel are the brushes on the motor?
@supergrendel3 күн бұрын
@ They are inside the Denso unit that sticks off the bottom which is technically the motor. The rest of it is just a bunch of gear mechanisms.
