The spark plug replacement was done on a 2007 Toyota Solara. This is the same power unit Toyota installed on a numbers of platforms such as the Highlander, Sienna, the Lexus AS330, the Camry, the Avalon, and the Solara. The power unit is the 3.3 liter V6 with variable valve timing which designation is 3MZ-FE.

I have an 06 Solara. I’ve replaced all spark plugs and coils twice. The front is a piece of cake, the rear is a royal PITA!!

Yes I know. It’s not that bad. It’s not a hard task, but it can be a little difficult to reach the back bolts that hold the plenum. These plugs were done on a Solara too; a 2007

Thank you. I appreciate this video. I just did mine in my solara and I cannot believe how much effort that was. I’ve done spark plugs twice in the 2015 V6 Camry and it is noticeably easier. The placement of those intake manifold bolts is insane

I don’t know if I was listening to an aviation technician or Tony Robbins! Great motivation in your commentary sir! At first glance, this job is really discouraging. I am going to attempt to due my 2007 Highlander by removing the three nuts from the throttle body that attach to the plenum. Less work hopefully. I will post my results. I’m also changing the coils while I’m in there since they are relatively inexpensive.

Nice video. I also liked that you shared your philosophy about taking on a challenge and learning from that. A few questions (1) Did you take the opportunity of cleaning the throttle body and butterfly valve on both sides while it was removed? (2) Can you comment on the order in which the bolts on the intake manifold are to re-torqued?

Thank you for the kind words. I did not take the opportunity to clean the throttle body for it is connected to the engine cooling system and I did not want to open the lines. At the time I didn’t think it necessary to clean the throttle body. The pattern you can use is a staggered one in two stages. Just don’t go from one side to the other, but rather , from center to outer sides, or from the outer sides moving in. You got this; it’s very easy.

My favorite part of the video is how the owners manual gives you two very specific spark plug part numbers and you completely ignore it and put something else in 🤡

Good eyes and good observation. The ones I installed work too; they’re iridium as well. Much like the manufacturer recommends certain lubricant brands, we don’t always follow those instructions also. Often times we go for a better quality product. But I will make a point of saying something about it next that happens. Thank you

I will have to replace mine that was installed by a mechanic…identically with this Bosh here …it was working ok for sometime…then my Sienna started to loose power. I will go with Denso this time…maybe I will get a better acceleration response. No code,no engine noise,no eating oil between oil changes etc. Just struggling to get power

Have you considered removing a few plugs out for inspection? Perhaps there’s more to the story. One would have to consider how many miles the car has and the likes. Perhaps a compression test?
