It’s easy to criticise this car but having bought one I can categorically state that it’s comfortable, fun and quite capable of motorway driving. A trip to Surrey from Merseyside was no problem and all at 56mpg. If you need more room or performance-buy a bigger car!
@gravemind65362 жыл бұрын
There is much to criticise on it like the terrible performance the fact its a vile 3 pot engine thats rough and noisy, the fact it handles awfully and feels like it wants to topple over the fact there is no central climate vents and all the cheap interior parts on a tiny car that has an asking price of £17500ish. However everything I have just said is subjective and you probably disagree with. However there is one thing that cannot be denied 175/70/R18 tyre size is silly and so is the asking price for such a tyre, there is only one tyre option for this car that was presumably designed specifically for it and those tyres are £171 each you're looking at £700 for a full set of tyres on a little city car where even £400 should get you a set of premium tyres. you quote 56mpg on a long trip like its impressive, my own car a Toyota Auris 1.2T I4 116hp gets 56mpg on a long run down the motorway and backroads and it does it all without having to go at 3000RPM or more whilst being more comfortable, handling better going quicker having just about every single thing be better than it. Ironically a full set of continetal ecocontact 6 tyres cost £396 fully fitted too.

I don't know why people criticise city cars for being slow when driving in cities is SO SLOW! People who buy these cars aren't necessarily dreaming of Ferraris they want practical, small, economical cars with excellent reliability, which is what they will get. And, for being stuck in traffic day in and day, why would you want to change gears?

It's funny how much focus the half seat in the back gets in every review. This is a 2CV, a Renault 4, a Golf 1. This is for two people commuting, bringing people in the back once or twice as she said. And everybody keeps forgetting the best takeaway is the simple construction plus coming from Toyota, makes it very very very very very veeeeryyy reliable.

As an owner of an original Aygo I find the trend for larger & larger small cars somewhat self-defeating. I can often park my Aygo where larger cars just cannot fit, which is quite satisfying 😁Only yesterday I popped down to my local village shop & parked in the one remaining space, which happened to be between a Range Rover & a huge Ford Ranger Pickup Truck. On coming out of the shop I find the (rather large) guy unable to get into his Range Rover as the vehicle filled the space and there was not enough room to open the door wide enough for him to get in. The cars get bigger, but the parking spaces stay the same size.......

Nice review, thank you. Just test drove and ordered my new Aygo X Edge this afternoon. My local dealer said I'll have it in September, more likely the end of September. So that's 8 or 9 weeks max hopefully! This car is a beautiful car to drive, looks great and feels fabulous. I wanted an automatic originally, but they didn't have an auto for me to test, but I was so impressed by the manual box the way it drove and looked, I bought it anyway! This is not a fast car, doesn't need to be, but my 30 miles ride this aft gave me 50 mpg and I wasn't even trying to drive economically with the thing. As long as it gets me and the missus around town, and takes us to Scarborough or Yarmouth and back on hols reasonably comfy, speed and acceleration doesn't matter, but it's not bad anyway! Never owned a Toyota before, looking forward to it.

I am picking mine up on Thursday this week. With automatic and the opening canvas roof … I think the overall look is very attractive for the current circumstances, and I wanted something small, replacing a Yaris hybrid. I am aware that I might find it slightly underpowered occasionally, but my motorway driving is relatively rare … and I did take it out on motorway for my test drive a couple of months ago … my main use case is in town / between local towns. This seems like a very fair review overall, and highlights the key points plus and minus quite nicely. If you have any interest in design etc. It might well appeal to you. And features / build quality / reliability will be very good, I am sure.

Great review, but words fail me. We're at an all-time low with car design - all manufacturers seem to do is take what they've done before, jack it up a bit, add some bigger wheels and plastic over the arches and instead of calling it an SUV, call it a crossover (which is really an SUV). This is the laziest form of creating a 'new' car. SUV's are no safer either - it's an illusion. Infact, due to higher center of gravity, are more prone to rolling.
@Rapscallion20092 жыл бұрын
its just a cheap way to up the price. Tack on some plastic, just up the suspension and call it an "activelifexcross" car. Hey, presto! - it's no longer a 15 grand hatchback, no no no. It's now a 20k "SUV Class" car. despite the lack of 4x4 or actually anything that would make it more expensive to make than the predecessor. It's all hogwash. Yes, I think the crossover SUV trend has gone nuts. And because of that trend, it’s killing off a lot of hatchbacks, sedans and station wagons. Not a fan of them. Another thing: the Toyota Aygo X is a European exclusive. South Africa used to get the Aygo, but it’s now replaced by the Ayga there. The Aygo was never sold in Japan, and the Aygo X isn’t gonna be sold in Japan.

Judging from the comments, it seems some of us are not happy as this car does not tick all the boxes. As the owner of a 2016 model and first time owner, I feel like an Aygo is for a certain class of people, and designed for first time car owners, or city car, that you only use it for transport as an individual, from point A to point B your self or with your partner and 1 or 2 kids, 2 adults in front and 2 kids at the back without luggage's, or only 1 or 2 hand bags. If you want an Aygo for longer trips, power, performance, off road and other sophisticated applications, then you need to get another better car or a luxury SUV. That is my opinion. The new design gives you a bit of confidence and better boot space, the engine does not seem interesting since is the same old version, but if you want to save, you wont be complaining...hahaha!!! For longer trips, you just have to know what to do and what not to do, for example: do not overload the car, do not carry more than 1 adult as a passenger, understand your gears on a flat road, hill climb or downhill for fuel economy and better performance. One thing I can guarantee you is that if you abuse the clutch, you gonna have issues with clutch, and that will cost you more money replacing it. Talking from experience. I drove 760 km in one day from one state to another and that took me about 12 hours on the road with one refreshment stop, this thing out performed other good looking cars on road as long as it is in good condition, good service and not being overloaded, especially for long trips. I never had a breakdown even though I bought it in 2019 with 42 000 km on the clock as second hand, now it has 108 000 km being driven daily. I am sure this shows how good it is and it saves fuel.

I had a 2019 previous model Aygo. Absolutely brilliant little thing. I too wondered about the lack of centre vents when I first got it. Absolutely no problem at all, quite forgot the fact. The ventilation and aircon was superb, worked better in fact than on some larger cars I've had/got. The biggest surprise for me though was the 'low power' engine. It was great fun. One of those cars that felt 'quick' even though it wasn't, if that makes sense. (Great for the health of the licence) Loved to be revved and 'driven', very go-kart like. Quite ok on the motorway too at cruising speeds. The 3 cylinder engine sound actually became quite addictive, encouraged you to drive it hard whilst still returning good fuel consumption figures. Put me in mind of the traditional small engined Italian models of a few years ago. With one big difference though to the old Italian car; in 4 years of ownership I didn't get a single problem with it, not even teething troubles. That's the other big Toyota bonus it seems. I wouldn't buy one of these though. Why? Because the car WITHOUT the black section on the back end - which looks like a replacement panel after a bit of damage and hasn't yet been painted - is only available on the base model. Mid/top spec and you're stuck with it. Nothing to do with Toyota other than as a satisfied customer.

As for the power trains, I'd have to say they are deal breakers, unless you really do live somewhere where you don't have to go up any hills and won't be going over 40 mph. That drone of a lethargic engine really does begin to grind after a while. For twenty grand, it's just too much for what it is. If I decided to buy one, it would only be if I was prepared to do something to that engine and maybe even see if it's possible to fix AWD into it (GR Yaris-style). But what's the point? Unfortunately I think with the way the world is, more young people are considering financed vehicles as their first cars. I’m not saying that is correct but it’s definitely happening

@@AutoSocialUK I've been on finance with Toyota for 9 years now, and just ordered the Edge Aygo X model. Its one of the more affordable ways to own a car. Yes I have to pay a monthly fee, but I get at least three years of worry free motoring with a warranty and only one MOT test to do each time.

I wonder if we will see the Aygo X here in Australia, quite a lot of our cars are RHD Euro spec. The tiny back doors and the small window which doesn't open properly would make it very claustrophobic, a ride in the back seat would feel horrible, in my opinion.

PS. Why label them as first Cars, people want city cars for cheaper running costs. I e petrol insurance e.t.c. unfortunately the new Toyota Aygo x costs nearly the price of the Yaris. Is very expensive around 20k fully loaded. Doesn't work anylonger.

No thanks Tish still prefer my Fiesta Active 0 to 62MPH in 8 seconds dead but it's getting on in age and might need a refresh, so with that in mind and no way I'm forking out for an EV - might consider the Yaris.

@@AutoSocialUK The smallest Toyota standard car we get now is the corolla hatch. In general most manufacturers no longer sell compact sedans or hatches at all. Watching your videos are fun since we really do not have that much variety of models or manufacturers as you do. The review reaches pretty hard to not criticise this car. Playing down the price tag. Making out the exposed metal bodywork in the interior isn't cost costing and cheapens the car and saying the engine is "still well suited to the car". If I said these things it'd be because Toyota gave me a thicc (with two cs) envelope. 😅

@@AutoSocialUK you proved my point. Little car. Big car price. you can spend less in this segment and get better economy, performance, build quality and interior space for less money. This car represents the same market as the traditional juke targets. Buyers who overlook or are plain ignorant to the extensive list of shortcomings but buy only on the looks. Saying that, that's even very subjective as this and the juke especially look pretty bad but some may think these look good and will 'upgrade' instinctively.
