If you are shopping for a new car, I think my Toyota Camry review can be useful for you.
We've been owning Toyota Camry Hybrid for 2 years and drove 30,000 miles (48,000km) on it. Purchased it brand new from Toyota dealer. Many things happened to this car and I'm sharing my story with you.
Let me know what do you think about it and what car would you or did you choose.

I have an Australian version of this car (2021 model, assembled in Japan). It does not have any issues with panel alignment or leaking. It comes with Michelin Primacy tyres. After 45000 km it has more than half of the thread. The fuel consumption is 4,5L/100 km during Summer (when is it not too hot) and 4,7 - 4,8 km/L during winter, during the rain or strong wind. My only complaint is that some of the plastic panels inside are not 100% quiet and sometimes make minor rattling noises, which are noticeable as the car is quiet overall. The overall comfort level is good - the ride is very smooth.

Wow! It's all in the details for sure. Can't tell you how much I appreciate your video. Absolutely loved the way you pointed things out showing the real usage issues. Vehicles are too expensive to put up with those kind of defects. Something I never thought of is the shiny black interior reflecting the sun. My wish list is a 4runner and the TRD off-road model has the shiny black. We keep our vehicles 20+ years and the next one will be the last one to purchase so financially I am terrified of making a wrong decision. Seems like everything is expensive junk these days. Again, this is the absolute best real world review I have ever seen. Thank you

I have a 2019 Camry SE. Mine didn't have any of the loose interior parts. My TPMS is on the dash and isn't under any subscription. I love it. Mine is the regular SE though. It may not be a hybrid. But, it gets close to 41 mpg long distance driving. 15.8 gal tank. 3/4 tank got me 549 miles.

@japekto , I also have a non-hybrid 2019 Camry SE (built in the USA) and like you haven't noticed most of the annoying things Guepard Motors did. (Maybe I will now? 😏) I have black SofTex seats that are comfortable and probably easier to clean than cloth seats in the LE. I get gas mileage like yours and after 4+ years am still pleased with my SE. Nothing has needed repaired so far, just normal maintenance. I did upgrade the dome light to LED to get more light, which was a complaint in the video. And installed XSE taillights because the SE/LE taillights are dim and bland. This generation Camry is a great car!

Thank you for the review! You have sold me on purchasing a different car in the future. I have known since the air bag problems that the quality of Toyota has gone downhill. I rented a Toyota Camry around 2010. I have been an owner of 2 Chevrolet Impala cars, and found the Camry not as comfortable to drive. I also did not like the winding gear shift for automatic. I purchased a Honda Ridgeline 3 years ago, and really like it. However, like your findings, I did have some issues with a rear door and panel behind that door, where they were not lined up well, and door would not always shut unless slammed shut. Honda dealer fixed the panel, but could not line up the door well enough. They blamed it on the rubber insulation around the door frame. Small issues, but would buy another Honda, as overall this has been my favorite vehicle for driving and utility. I hope that Toyota improves their production quality. I really like AWD. Honda does not have that option on the Accord, yet. However, with good all weather tires, my Impala drives pretty good with just front wheel drive in the snow.
@Guepard_Motors
@Guepard_Motors Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the info! What car brand and model would you buy now? I had 2000 Honda Accord Coupe front wheel drive and loved it (just transmission was not very reliable). Even in severe snow with Nokian Hakkapeliitta tyres it always handled great. To be honest as a former rally racing pilot and owner of AWD cars I think all wheel drive sedan cars are over rated. For the city use even in snowy and icy regions front wheel drive cars are good enough. AWD is mostly for off-road and needs more maintenance and more expensive to fix. If 4wd car looses traction it’s harder to “catch” it on the road, than front wheel or even rear wheel drive car, cause AWD behaves like both at the same time… 😅

Get the middle trim for some of the better materials and doesn't feel like a rental car, like the soft tex seats. But I agree some of the complaints are valid. I also highly recommend you that don't charge any electronic from the car power outlets, use an extra portable power bank instead. Cause it might decrease or damage the car's hybrid battery. Lastly, it looks like you're more suitable for RAV4 hybrid...

Wow, I can't believe the difference in build quality comparing to models intended for European market. I live in Europe and bought a Camry hybrid from new (built in Japan) and it has none of these problems. I think the reason between this discrepancy in quality comes from the fact that Toyota competes with VW in Europe, (so they need to have high standards to convince Europeans to buy it over VW, especially because Toyota doesn't sell as many diesel models as VW, and in general Europeans prefer diesel) where as in America from what I know they are segment leaders in the majority of cases (which may lead to these sorts of letdowns in build quality). In my opinion the Camry is a great car, and there shouldn't be such big build quality problems no matter the factory location, but unfortunately I think that the lack of such serious competition led to them to have lower proffesionalism levels in building these cars because they know people will still buy them. Please keep us updated on the mechanical reliability as well as I think we all are curious if there are differences there too.

Thank you for letting me know. Now I know what to look for when buying a Toyata. 1. Make sure it was made in Japan and not in U.S or Canada. 2. Make sure you don't need bs like app to check car tire pressure or other info they show in dashboard for other Toyota models without any subscription like RAV4. 3. Make sure the car was never in an accident before. 4. Drive it and listen for noise both car and streer By the way the keyfob problem happens from time to time in most toyata models. We have had a number of toyota cars and the headrests in the new models along with the seat bolsters hurt my back after just an hour of driving. They curl my shoulders in and push my head forward. I wonder if I could just take the headrests out and turn them around. We just bought a 2023 corolla and the seat bolsters arent quite as prominent but they still curl my shoulders in. Its a car built for small people I guess. At 6 ft and 200 lbs its just not as comfortable as I would like. Was thinking a camry would fix those issues but looking at your video maybe not. I havent had any panel gap issues or been bothered by the plastics even though some may move and squeak. No water leaks either. I would hope toyota would fix that for you. Last thing is the corolla we have was 31k out the door with extended warranty gap and all that. Its not bad but still a small fortune for a car @ 500 a month

Regarding you having problems locking the car, I know a lot of modern cars are confusing with how to use their proximity keys so I’ll give some information on what I have learned with my ‘20 Camry hybrid. The car must be completely turned off for you to lock it. This is because if the car is on in any mode (whether it be the engine on or just accessory mode) it wants the key to be in the car. If the car is on and you take the key out of the car and close the door it’ll beep at you. I could tell that in those clips the car was still on because the screens were on. With the car completely off, if you press the start button once without depressing the brake pedal it goes into a degraded mode which I find to be useless because most of the systems are off in this mode, but I don’t think you can lock it from the outside in this mode. To turn the car off in this mode, press the power button two more times. When you press the power button two more times, you can either press it twice while depressing the brake pedal, twice without depressing the brake pedal, or once with first then once without. If you push the button without pressing brake then once with, you have to press it one more time. This is because when you press the power button while pressing brake the car will always turn completely on, whether in that degraded mode, accessory mode, or if it is completely off. With the car completely off, if you press the power button twice without depressing the brake pedal, it goes into accessory mode. Press the button one more time without depressing the brake to turn the car off. Obviously if you depress the brake pedal and push the power button once the car turns completely on. To turn it off from here only press the button once. In short, if you press the button three times, all without pressing the brake pedal, it will go into a degraded mode, then accessory, then off. If you depress the brake and press the button, it will always turn the engine on and it’ll be ready to drive. Only press the button one more time to turn it off after driving it. If the car is completely off and still doesn’t want to lock then there’s something wrong with it. Hope this helped. Lastly the sound you heard at 12:42 I think was the electronic parking brake. I found it annoying at first but got used to it.

Many of your critiques are not new, in fact, my old 2011 shows some of these. I agree (and appreciate the review), but I would purchase Toyota again, but I have to remember, Toyota is trying to make the Camry good for everyone. The new mandates to make it more "hip &stylish" along with more power, more "sports" create the fact that the stiffer suspension, and scratches along the front bumper. I have been leary of jumping forward to a new model, as I know that as the Camry updates itself, it has in fact more computers on board managing every component fail more and more expensive to repair. I prefer to manage to diagnose and repair my older models. I also notice, that Toyota has selected not to go forward on the "All electric" bandwagon, preferring to stick to the hybrids it pioneered and has good execution on. I will watch the market and continue to wait for a model that I think I can leave my older Camry for, in the future.

I'm comparing apples to oranges but I have a limited Subaru legacy and while the XLE Camry trim would be more comparable, there is a huge difference in fit and finish. The cars are comparable in dimensions but the cosmetic and finish are far superior. Tire pressure should be a standard display with TPMS. Paying extra for it??? The automatic braking is quite smooth in the Subaru too. While Toyota's are in general more reliable than Subarus for sure, i found your video very informative and very surprising. That being said, the windshield wipers in the Subaru didn't last for more than a year either 😁

I had similar concerns with my 2021 Prius Prime, seemingly poor build quality and cheap feeling interior parts, rattles, etc. After one year the steering wheel started making a groaning noise when turning right and the rear suspension started creaking, left it with the dealer for a couple of days and they said it was normal. Sold the car after that. It was my first Toyota and I had very high hopes for the quality, I was not expecting such poor build quality since they have such a good reputation.

The rubber floor mats are cheaper and thinner than previous 7th generation camry. Also the center console can develop a rattling sound. Just my experience. I don't have many or any of these issues on my 24 camry le..only the thin all weather floor liners AND the head resets tilted forward is very uncomfortable on long drives and the stock Firestone tires aren't very good in poor weather conditions. Minor complaints compared to what you get from the competition.

Toyota quality isn’t the same like it was in the 90’s thru the early 2000’s. I’ve owned older Lexus and Toyota vehicles from way back then, and I will tell you that the interiors of the older Toyota vehicles were much higher quality. Everything from the plastic parts, to the vinyl and leather trim, which were way more durable and tough, to the paint quality, it was much better back in the days even if their interiors were a bit bland and basic looking. For instance the door panels of a 2003 Lexus ES330 and an RX300 are extremely solid feeling with high touches. Both vehicles have durable interiors that don’t creak or rattle after hundreds of thousands of miles unlike the new Toyotas that feel like they’re made from cheap Fisher-Price toy plastic and metals. The poor quality of materials of the new Camry was shocking to me to say the least. I don’t know why all the mainstream car reviewers never pointed this out, as even the most non car person out there could easily tell how cheaply made the new Camry is put together.
