Matt's Off Road Recovery

One day, three extractions!!
We got called out for a minivan that was stuck in the sand at Sand Hollow State Park. After we found them and got them back on solid ground, we headed for home. As we were driving out of the park, we were flagged down by the owner of a Toyota that needed a little help getting back to Solid footing.
Later that afternoon, we were called out for a vehicle that had lost its transmission fluid. By this time it was 105° and the wind was blowing a little bit. It was HOT!!!
Since this vehicle couldn’t help at all, I had to use enough kinetic energy rope to get me on solid footing to pull him to where we could pick him up with a rollback tow truck.

Great man. So many would be in serious trouble without his kind services, people need learn a few fundamental rules and limitations of driving their vehicle into the desert, some are totally unprepared and just follow a GPS. I owned a Jeep XJ for 24 years it was an excellent basic 4wd with a combined chassis, low weight, strong 4 litre six cylinder engine, diff lockers and two inch lift would go anywhere.

I was in the sand with my old truck and had the Transfer Case Control Module “TCCM” go out on my truck disabling my four wheel drive (although I didn’t know the problem at the time). It was one of the worse experiences of my life, I had no cell reception and everyone who came across me were a total jerks and not only wouldn’t help, but also laughed and made fun of me and my family. Bad things can happen to anyone. “Murphy’s Law” but since that experience I have always gone out of my way to help anyone out on the trail, any time for any reason. Give people the benefit of the doubt and help your fellow off roaders, even if they are in a minivan someplace that it has no business being 😉. Thanks for the video!

theres a place here in aus,called inskip beach,,watch that..but,i think,there should be education courses,advertised or when you buy a vehicle to travel out of population,off bitumen,,.a hand book,or course of 1-2 wks,to educate people on tire pressure,not spinning wheels,&,WALK IT FIRST. keep up a steady speed,dont change gear..&,if possible,buy a cheap china winch for 300,a cradle,& 2 mount points,front & rear..it helps you & your fellow stranded non course people..every one that buys a 4x4,it should be mandatory,to do this.it saves lives,especially here in aus,2 days your dead.you can travel 2,000 ks here,& not see a soul.ask the japs on the pushbikes they found..!!.NEVER,LEAVE THE VEHICLE. its a beacon to your whare abouts..thirsty,,drink the rad water,if it is,,allways carry heavy cloths,& extra water.BEER,IS NOT FLUID.

Money is amazing. While your tow truck driver might not need any help building an app, someone somewhere does. They will 'pay' you (exchange of service for a symbolic representation of 'any goods'), and you can then pay your tow truck driver. Even if you are a farmer, not everyone likes beets. No problem, sell beets for money and then use that money to buy ANYTHING. Money is probably one of the most critical and least discussed technologies ever conceptualized. We never think of it in these terms, but honestly money is to pre-history what the internet is to modernity.

Before I watch any further (I'm at 03:17): Thank you for holding your values in this easy-to-be-nasty KZbin world (and to be honest,I have also at least once made myself guilty of such nastiness). Quite honestly, I simply don't succeed as much as I would like to at applying the "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" mantra, but I am working on improving my behaviour. Watch this space. You, Sir are probably surprised by the level of venom in the comments section, because there is a certain level of decency and 'niceness' that your parents clearly taught you . While you are probably not so naive that you were completely unaware that people can be so nasty, I sense that the sheer level of aggro has caught you a bit off guard. Keep on being the fella that we've all come to know a little and respect a lot (for more than just his off roading skills).

Half the reason I loved hunting so much when I was young was getting to 4 wheel in and out...love the vids Matt, thanx for sharing sir.

I got stuck bad on a fire road in the snow in Big Bear California. It was just at sun set. I had a 4x4. We just wanted to explore. Just took a wrong turn, ended up in a few feet of snow with no cell service. Off road recovery guys just like Matt happened to be coming back from a job. They pulled me out for free! Otherwise I would have been stuck in a snow storm overnight. Guys like Matt are doing gods work people. Saved me and my friends from a freezing night possibly a hike back to civilization in the snow at night. Hope if I ever get stuck again somewhere near these guys I get to call Matt, I’m a big fan!

Matt's Off Road Recovery Hey Matt, awesome channel! I just found it recently and have been binge watching as much as I can. I dig your comment about being harsh to other humans, that is not good at all. I find I do it myself on occasion, when people do things that just aren't right. You were talking about why some people get stuck. My dad says the same thing about people that launch boats the first few times. They don't know what the hell their doing, and don't realize the trailer won't turn the same way as you turn the truck, it goes the opposite way. So you have a newbe trying to back down the ramp getting pissed cause they can't control the trailer. It takes a few times to get the hang of it, as i am sure driving a heavy ass camper does in the sand. Its good for you, cause you make $$$. But even better for us, cause we get to watch your videos. My 15 yo son took out our Sportsman 800 quad one day and got it stuck in the mud. He showed up at the campsite about an hour later. He was in tears and said he got stuck in the mud, and apologized. I patted him on the shoulder and reassured him that those machines get stuck all the time and its no problem. I felt so bad that he had some guilt or shame in getting stuck. No one should have guilt over getting stuck in the mud. If one hasn't gotten stuck, one is not off-roading enough.

Toyota commercials, Jeeps commercials etc. and especially Honda commercials!!! And as long as you drive their name brand NOTHING GOES WRONG including off-roading!!! And some other people assume they can do what other people do (that have more skill and knowledge about off-roading). My backstory is; early 90s (91-92) was the first 2 years of me in Glamis, CA. Having grown up in Delta Utah, we learned to drive on sand. Maybe you could do a video on some of the finer points of driving on sand.

Definitely would appreciate this. As someone from Canada I can drive well in most snow conditions but this sand is new to me. Heading to Utah this summer and as much as I want to adventure I don’t really want to have to call ya Matt. But that would be kinda cool to meet ya. So some sand driving tips..

Never been stuck in the sand....but have been stuck in a sandbar in a river. When a truck with 48" tall tires gets swallowed to the bumper, its not good. After a second trip to get more weights for the front of a dual wheeled 4x4 tractor, we got it out.

A lot of people think they have 4 wheel drive when they in fact do not. If you do not have a locker front & rear, you do not have 4 wheel drive.

Ron Smith what do hubs do? And why do you need to lock them?
@okigojuryu
@okigojuryu 5 жыл бұрын
@@davealaddin9952 the hub bassicly connects the axle to the wheel, locking them engages the wheel, bassicly, and unlocking them disengages the wheel, unless you have a HUMMER styled hub, which is full-time 4wd, so it can't be unlocked.

okigojuryu 1979 or a dodge 2500... I just got rid of the factory dodge unit bearing and solid hub design. I now have the ford style Dana 60 with locking hubs and serviceable bearings. Saves on gas as well not having to turn all the front drivetrain components.
@okigojuryu
@okigojuryu 5 жыл бұрын
@@Upliftyourbrothers frankly I prefer my full time 4wd, on the H3s you gain a solid... wait for it... 1, mpg, when you remove all the front driveline bits, so not really worth it, and 9/10 times all I need is to just turn the TC off to get through an obstacle, so I don't have to lock the center diff, which keeps the driveline from binding, and thus reduces stress, that's just my opinion on the subject however, happy trailing!

Likely where the van owner stores the strap between pulls or tows. A common practice of off-roaders. Keeps it handy and out of the mud, sand, or whatever. I hook mine to the hitch and throw the rest into the bed of my truck. If I ever need to be pulled out (rare unless seriously mudding), all I have to do is throw the other end out to whomever is pulling.

@@dwightstewart7181 no. the jeep owner was the one taking the strap off. he was about to do a roof rack delete on that minivan. if they were 10 minutes later to that van hed have already ripped it off
