I was dreading doing this in this 13 model that was given to me. I did the same job on an altima and removing the rear deck was just SO fun. Since I always break something when working on cars anyway, Im going this when i do my upgrade this week

How did it turn out?
@Stevenhiggles2 жыл бұрын
@@sugarraysmith5450 it worked for a couple but I had to take the rear deck out anyway. Way simpler since the last owner didn't fully clip anything down. Just popped out once I started to tug a tad. Its more secure now so its not a total time loss. Ended a few cabin creaks. Thanks for the tip tho!

Just an FYI: the 2014 Corolla S screws are not like this. There are welded nuts tacked in place for the screws to go into; you cannot unscrew them all the way. And once you’ve started, you can’t stop as the speaker is now loose and there’s no way to tighten back up due to the recessed screw. Either A) I’m back to the panel removal, or B) I’m drilling the holes out from inside the trunk, or C) I’m hitting it with a grinder/dremel tool. I can’t believe I’m dumb enough to be retarded enough to do all the screws! As my subs are in my trunk and now these speakers are loose and just rattle grrr. Lol... anyways, this is a great video and should have 100,000+ views. 👍 Toyota, 👍 3 doors down, 🏆 Rays Garage!

Sorry about your predicament. A suggestion: use a drill on the end of the screws and see if that will back them all the way out. Failing that, use another bolt/screw of the same size and thread it into the hole. Once started that should be able to push the bolts through to the other side. Failing that...... drill them all the way out with a larger drill being careful not to punch a hole in the deck cover and possibly ruining the threads in the welded nuts but at least then you can proceed with rest of the speaker replacement using some self tapping screws. Good luck

@@sugarraysmith5450 Subscribed ✅ Drilling them the rest of the way out worked for me. I’ve never heard of drilling screws out from the other side like that, where’d you pick that truck up from? I wonder if that would’ve worked if I didn’t loosen the screws first? Anyways, you were a big help in the progress of my install on my 2014 Corolla. With 2 child seats in the back seats I really didn’t want to do the install pulling the rear deck. Thank you so very much 🤗🙏👍
@sugarraysmith54503 жыл бұрын
@@derekthomasgriffin to be honest I don't remember where I picked up that trick. I just remember somebody telling me that you could grind a little slot in the end of a screw that will also work to back them out with a screwdriver. Come from a long line of mechanics. Glad it worked out well for you

Hey my only question is did you have to use a external amplifier
@sugarraysmith54503 жыл бұрын
No but probably should have. The origin deck doesn't have quite enough power.

It took me 5-10 minutes to dismantle my car and access the speakers. I do not think this is an easier way. Personally, I would never attempt this. It actually seems like more work. Just my opinion. I have a 2013 Corolla S.

@William Link I have the same car and it takes 10 minutes just to remove the child seats. This video helped me out tremendously. Who are you to say otherwise. Don’t be a stick in the mud dude.
@edgarava13 жыл бұрын
@@derekthomasgriffin removing the seats is not necessary, there're countless videos about changing the speakers without having to remove the seats since you just push them forward with the release lever. You do have the remove the plastics though

Hey Sugar Ray...what speakers did you buy? I have taken the old speakers out but the new speakers I bought are too small (bought Pyle 6x9). Plus, did you have to drive pilot holes for the self tappers? Thanks
@sugarraysmith54503 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom. Should be 6x9's that came out so the hole should be able to accommodate 6x9's mounted under the parcel shelf metal. And self tappers do not require pilot holes. (Self tappers! )
@sugarraysmith54503 жыл бұрын
Oh and i bought Kenwoods. Don't remember the model but about $150 for the pair of 6x9's

@@sugarraysmith5450 Hey Ray...thanks for the video. I did indeed change our speakers and it was super easy (once I got the self-tappers) thanks. Another question here though. Our A/C comes and goes. I had the system recharged and it worked for a while but is now intermittent again. Sooo, I had the refrigerant levels checked and it is fine. Have you seen anything like that on your Corolla? Ours is a 2012. Thanks...Tom

@@tomchateau good morning Tom. I have sold our Corolla. Needed something a little bigger. Either way no I have not had problems with the air conditioning. From the sounds of it though I am thinking you have either got air in your system or your compressor is a little weak. I would suggest taking it to an air conditioning repair place and let them have a look at it
