You are saying totally wrong. Corolla xli is basic variant and less features. But it's very good comfortable and fuel efficient car and also powerful engine even then automatic version I used it for last three years and I also tried Yaris but xli and Yaris has no comparison. Corolla xli is much much better than Yaris so plz don't misguide.

It's all about the mindset. You might be fine with less safety features like ABS which is very crucial in dangerous situations, but we as reviewers can't recommend a 21st century car with not even features of 20th century cars. One should simply go for GLi variant.

Only Corolla Xli and Gli has been discontinued. Altis 1.6 and 1.8 are still in production. Now yaris 1.3 & yaris 1.5 competes with Honda city 1.3 & 1.5. While Corolla Altis now competes with Honda civic as both are compact sedan.

Just to clarify, Toyota Corolla is not a compact sedan, its a Sedan (4 door), please correct.

4 door sedans are classified into sub categories. Honda City / Toyota Yaris are Sub Compact sedans, Toyota Corolla / Honda Civic are Compact sedans, Hyundai Sonata / Honda Accord / Camry are midsize sedans and Toyota Avalon / Honda legend are full size sedans. Kindly do some research.

Who said City is overall better then Gli? Infact you missed the part where i described sub compact sedan and compact sedan. Cultus was compared in performance part and it is a fact that from 0-100 cultus is faster even city is. Also average wise city is better.
