Toyota Customization: Door Lock Settings (Volume, Re-Lock Timer, Feedback Lights)

In today's video, I will be showing you how to customize the lock/unlock features on your vehicle. This is where you can adjust the re-lock timer, the auto locking and unlocking of the doors, and the volume of the feedback tones among others.
Please note that customizations vary among each vehicle so this may not be applicable for your Toyota.

2023 Camry XSE V6. Regardless of Re-Lock Timer setting (Off, 30 sec, 60 sec, or 120 sec), the car does not lock when you get out of the car or when you walk away. However, you decided to go to your car and used the Key FOB to unlock the door(s) but if no one enters/ opens a door, when the timer expires the door(s) will lock. It does not have the capability to automatically lock your door(s) when you get out of your vehicle and walk away. Next, Using the Key FOB to roll down your car windows, need to have this done at Toyota Dealership, some do it for free and others want a hefty fee for 5 minute connection of their laptop computer with Toyota TechStream software to the OBDII connector and scroll to the Door/Window section and Allow your FOB to roll down the windows. To roll up must use Valet Key inserted into the car door keyhole and turn to get all windows rolled up. The Toyota Remote Connect via the Toyota APP is good for 10 years but to use the Remote Start feature will cost you from $80 to $100 per year by pre-paid Subscription. Toyota makes several things Inconvenient.

In 2021 corolla hatchback SE, I changed the lock settings and turned auto lock on but the two front doors can still be opened from the inside when the vehicle is moving. What can I do?

In the drop down menu on the left, vehicle shows up but it’s unhighlighted so nothing happens when I touch it. It’s not linked to anything. Any idea why not or what I can try.

If you haven't tried already, the vehicle needs to be in Park to adjust any settings.

Thanks for the informative video. Question on a 2022 RAV4 Hybrid XLE... Does the vehicle have the capability to automatically lock the doors when you get out of the vehicle and walk away?

Hi Rick! Most of our vehicles have the relock timer and the auto-lock feature where it locks the vehicle once you shift into drive and unlocks when you shift into park; however, Toyotas (in Canada at least) do not have the feature where the vehicle automatically locks when you get out. I hope this helps!

It's challenging for us to do videos on prior model years, as we don't have them available for too long or too often. It's best to contact your closest dealership and speak to a technology specialist or a service advisor if you have any questions on the customization set up of your vehicle. 2014-2019 are 3rd generation Highlanders, and have similar features depending on the trim level.

Question...if I use the automatic door lock let's say after 60 sec, if I accidentally leave my keys in tje car, will it lock them in?

As long as your vehicle has a smart key that has a full battery & is a push button start, the vehicle will not lock with the keys inside the vehicle, unless you have a second key and lock the vehicle with that second key outside the vehicle.

If you can get to the Door Lock Settings Menu, like in 1:19 of this video, you can set your Automatic Door Unlock by Shift to Park, so when you put your vehicle into Park, which you always need to do before you turn off your engine, your doors will unlock.

@@belletoyota rav4 prime xse 2022 , but i just found out that could have been a defect on my car since my brother in law has an exact same car and the programming of the feedback volume works perfectly while mine does not. Thanks for your reply.

I have a 2020 plate CHR but for some reason mine doesn’t have this setting. It doesn’t allow me to set the auto lock timer I mean.

I have a 2019 Rav 4 and I have did everything instructed in this video and it did not work for me. I unlock does with fob and doors does not lock according to what time I have set the door locking timer.

If that is the case, it's best to see your local Toyota service department so they can further diagnose what could be causing that issue.

⁠@@billjoang, after you unlock your doors, if you press the unlock button again instead of the lock button to lock your doors, that’s only when your doors will relock itself according to your relock timer settings. It is not an automatic locking system if you forget to lock your doors.

I have noticed that the doors stay in locked when the windows are partially down. I keep the windows partially down, about 1/3 the way, so my dog stays cool. I was able to put my hand inside the open window and unlatch the door handle. Is there a way to fix this? This is really really important and dangerous.

You should be able to unlock the vehicle doors from the outside with either a remote key or a turn key.

@@belletoyota No, that’s not it. Goal-dog is in car. I leave the windows open so she will stay cool while I leave for a few minutes. The car needs to STAY locked while I am gone. Currently, you can stick your arm through the door, and unlatch it.

Yes, the door is designed to unlock from the inside even when the vehicle is turned off. This safety feature is in place to prevent anyone from being inadvertently locked inside the vehicle.

Thanks, but if I am not in the car, and my dog is, and windows are parcially down so she doesnt get too hot, someone can put their arm in the open window and unlatch the door, take my dog. @@belletoyota

We strongly advise against leaving pets unattended in vehicles due to safety concerns. It's important to note that even a slight opening of windows, such as an inch, may not provide sufficient ventilation and can pose risks.
