I am on my 7th Highlander going back well over 20 years. Drove each one between 3 and 5 years and averaged about 15k a year. All of them were gas models. Only one time did I have to pay MSRP, right at the end of Covid. About $1500 has been the average discount off MSRP, though I don't usually push that hard anymore because I always do well on the trade-in / residual value. I have not had a single quality problem with any of them. Only minor recalls that did not really affect me (driver-side mat, bumper cover). So anecdotally at least, the Highlander was and still is excellent. I would say the factory tires are terrible and never last more than 15k miles. Also, the battery fails at 3.5 years like clockwork, but I live at a higher altitude which is hard on battery life.

Before the stop sales in Canada, there was a 2 years waitlist on this vehicle already for the hybrid and half of that on the gas model.

What’s more. Have you heard about Hyundai and Kia’s catching fire, the Tellurides, including the latest Telluride, being recalled for fire hazard? Give me a break.

I feel like I won the lottery on getting my GH hybrid awd, in black, with panoramic roof, and towing package in May for what the dealership got it for.. it's the only one I've seen in my town. Now, I guess it will continue to be.
@JohnJohn-wr1joАй бұрын
Molly hate to rain on your parade. Have you checked your wholesale, retail, trade in values on it. I'm sure your holding on to it but I've never seen a Toyota 1st generation model lose value as fast as the GH. Probably more to do with the fact dealers won't take them for trade until the issue is resolved. I'm hoping nobody runs into mine and totals it. Could get ugly. I've already got attorneys sending me class action stuff for this recall.

Toyota wants to stop production for the Canadian market, simply to push prices for the few existing models higher and higher. They think that making 10-times the profit on only 1/10 of the previous sales volume, is the best way forward at this time. Go ahead; Toyota, Honda/Mazda/Subaru are more than willing to take market share away.

Why should this surprise us with any manufacture at this point, this economy is so messed up also Covid had impacts but also quality has gone down hill, I was considering a Toyota carolla cross, I sat inside it’s so tight and super plastics abound the seats were very tough and not very comfortable I know it’s a base model I say to my self this 25,000.00$ vehicle is not gonna hold up well, I sat inside a Honda HRV way more room seats were more supportive and interior despite plastics were more like upscale for its base trim and was like a grand less, I am considering a Honda over Toyota.

Toyota quality is a myth. Yeah, they made a few near bulletproof models just like every other auto maker. But, they have a long history of problematic builds. Think all those belt driven cams, Toyota sludge leading to blown engines, a million or so 4 cylinder oil burners a few years ago, door handles that melt in desert heat, and then there's all those pickup truck with rotted frames. And their new models are proving their engineering and testing impotence.
