Toyota Highlander Headlight Bulb Replacement with LEDs

Today I replaced the headlights on my Toyota Highlander with LEDs. The difference is amazing, and the process is definitely DIY friendly. Anyone can do this themselves!

Here/s a tip that several videos I've watched have missed. When doing the low beam bulb on the passenger side, before removing the dust cap you first press those 2 small tabs where the windshield wash filler tube connects to the body and lift the tube up slightly so you can move the filler tube to the side for easier access to the dust cover. That's actually why the filler tub neck is " corrugated"| so it can be bent to the side. 'Also if the new LED seems a little hard to get into the "socket" for the bulb just remove the smaller thinner rubber gasket from the old halogen bulb and put that one in place of the one on the LED. It will still seal the inside of the headlight but being thinner it will fit into the :"mounting tab slots" in the housing a bit easier.

Piece of friendly advice for anyone trying this: Make sure not to drop the moisture cap inside engine bay. I dropped the right side cap and had to remove panels underneath to recover that in 20 degrees cold in the dark of night.

Oh man! So sorry you went through that! In the process, did you notice how easy it would be to upgrade the fog lights? I have a video for that as well.

could you please also provide your feedback on the fan noise level? Is it noticeable when A/C was not on? Also, because it seemed that the moisture cap did not completely seal the unit, there is a possibly dust and water could go into the unit and decrease it's life span.

I really can't hear the fan when these are on and the car is running, they are really quiet tiny fans. I have not noticed any water getting inside due to the cap not closing completely. The gasket is still sealing the opening, so unless I submerge the truck, they shouldn't get much moisture all the way up there inside the hood.

got it, and thank you, i just bought for my highlander 2019, my lasfit is broke,but lasfit was perfect for highlander but is expensive why i bought this led h11, so we will see how long can work this led light, lasfit worked around 1 year

Ah man, it should last longer than that... Warrantee on Auxito bulbs is 2-years if you purchase from their website. Not sure if you purchase from Amazon...

On the driver side I had to install the resistors they can provide. Sorry that wasn't made clear in my turn-signal video.

Have a question, I bought led lights, but it's a bit longer and wider therefore I cannot put the cap back on, what do I do in that situation?

That’s a tough one. You could cut out the back just enough to allow it to stick out, but you don’t want dust/debris/bugs getting into the lense body showing up inside.

I have a 22 highlander platinum the headlights move side to side when turning the steering wheel, I'm not sure if I could I use a different bulb or would I need to get something special?

I don’t see flicker when looking directly at the lights, but looking away you see a flicker. I like that this attracts attention which is the whole point of DRL. Looses some minor style points but it is ultimately safer to be noticed.

agreed...daytime running lights don't need to be bright, but it is annoying that they look "old" & yellow.

Since switching to these led headlights is technically illegal in the states do you get harassed by the police or at yearly safety inspection?

@@DansWay Totaly different. Try to find out how to do it in the 2022 model. Good luck. It’s either permanently sealed and requires special tools, or the entire headlamp needs to be replaced, which would suck, and it would be a turn-off for me. The manual says: replacing the low/high bulb must be done by your dealer. After 3 days of searching I gave up. If you find any info on that, I’d appreciate the link. Also… can’t find how many lumens the low/highs give out. I called Toyota - they did not know. Can you believe it????
