Been averaging around 24.4 I have 5600 miles.

I own a '24 Land Cruiser and still within the break-in period with 782 miles. So far, I'm getting 19.2 mpg.

The problem is that this hybrid engine was designed primarily for more torque/power than actual fuel economy. The EPA numbers are based on optimal driving conditions, with speeds of around 55-60 mph. At the end of the day, this 5,000 lb tall brick of a truck is being pushed through air by a 4 cyl turbo engine. Physics is physics. Imagine the range this thing would get towing 3,000 lb, or even just going to a larger tire. I avergae 18.5 mpg mixed driving in my 5th gen 4Runner, and I really considered the new LC because of the advertised power and efficency numbers, but the more I dig around on forums and KZbin, it seems like there's absolutely no reason to take the plunge with this new platform. No. The problem is that they advertised it to get 25mpg highway. 55-60mph is not highway (freeway) speed. Nothing wrong with a bug SUV getting 20 mpg hwy but Toyota lied and some people bought this SUV because they saw the 25mpg hwy. Let's be honest. Great SUV but Toyota lied. If Toyota claimed 18mpg hwy and we are getting 20mpg, then we would have been happy. But if you are getting 20mpg, then you should better off bought the GX550. Better quality, more power, most likely better resale, 300lbs more payload, 3000 lbs more towing capacity, bigger brakes, quieter and better ride, suspension dampening selection etc... all this at the same price and actual MPG.

Thank you for doing it at 70mph. Most highways have a speed limit of 70mph.

My guess is that you're miles per gallon is off because you're driving 70 miles an hour when they do the ratings it's more like 55 or 60 MPH. In my experience all cars will get significantly worse miles per gallon as we go faster than the 55. my Lexus gs 350 will get like 22 miles per gallon at 55 on the but if I go 80 I get about 17.8

Yes aerodynamic drag increases exponentially as speed increases. Epecially on these boxy vehicles.

No. Check daily motor channnel. Over 250 highway mpg tests and almost every car at 70mph average speed gets better mpg than EPA rating.

Mine has 2500 miles and only getting 19.8 MPG... I do live in the mountains and have driven about 50 miles on dirt. Removed the air dams and put AT tires on it.

My new LC is only averaging 16.3 mpg for the first 900 miles of mostly city driving. Pretty disappointing given the EPA city is 22.

I have read from a few owners say the first 1000 miles it’s not as efficient and it gets better. Odd how some are way below 20 mpg and some are a few mpg above 20. Appreciate if you can let us know how you’re doing as time goes on.

I have been getting close to city mpg (22.9)and a tad over hwy mpg (26.8) on my 1958 with the stock wheels and tires. "TRDJon" said he got similar hwy numbers around 26.8mpg. I have also had it on ECO mode since I bought the thing, so maybe Toyota is basing it off their ECO setting. I have a new wheel/tire setup (17x8 on 285/70/r17 AT-SL Rated) so I'll be posting another mpg test on those.

i’m curious if running in eco with 87 since now it’s been confirmed you “can” run 87. they recommend 91 towing and in hills.

I only can say this is an improvement over the previous gen Land Cruiser which was EPA rated 14 combined city/hwy, which is what matters to Toyota because the old Land Cruiser was bringing down their CAFE number.

It is a big improvement over the J200 and its 5.7 liter V8. Although after review this Land Cruiser I'd really like to review one of those older big boys just to see the differences for myself.

Thanks for doing these test. That’s Disappointing. I was hoping the new hybrid max Tacoma (with this same powertrain) would be a noticeable improvement over the base 2.4. Based on these tests, I’d say not.
