I'm on my 6th Land Cruiser. Four FJ40's and one FJ45 truck. My current Cruiser is a 1981 FJ40. My first vehicle ever was a 1970 FJ40 with a "Three on the tree" transmission. Every time i had one, someone always offered more than I thought it was worth. They are awesome trucks, fun to drive, greater head turners, and a great investment. If Toyota would offer new FJ40's, I'd be the first in line to buy one.

The bit of film purporting to be from 1955 is on an Australian road with a 1968 - 69 HK Holden sedan coming the other way at 2:48. An Australia -Japan trade agreement came into force in 1957 and Australia was the first market of any size for Japanese cars, the Cruiser was perhaps the first Toyota model sent here. Since both counties had right hand drive, they didn't need much re-engineering. Until the later 1960s Australia still built more cars than Japan and we rarely saw a japanese car until about 1964. The American dominated companies were very slow to catch up with the levels of standard equipment on the Japanese cars in Australia, and the English as ever had problems with reliability, particularly with cheaper models. So buyers of small cars mobbed Japanese car dealers. By 1970 some Toyota commercial vehicles including the Cruiser and Hilux were being assembled by Thiess Bros at a plant on Kerry Road, close to the Archerfield light aircraft airstrip in Brisbane. I worked across the road from that plant for about 8 months then, but how much locally made stuff went into them I do not know. Nearly all that film, with exception of some of the snow scenes was shot in Australia.

Til this day the English brands have yet to work out their reliability issues.

Awesome video! I've always been interested in the Toyota Land Cruiser. I regret that I've never owned or driven a Land Cruiser. My favourite Land Cruiser models are the FJ55, the FJ60, the FJ62, and the FJZ80.

When does this car was exported in Europe for the first time ?
@KingRoseArchives10 жыл бұрын
Not sure but could be in 1977 - when the @wiki/Irish_Army took delivery of the first of 77 FJ45 Land Cruisers. Had been exported to Australia and Brazil and later Canada. Think it took longer to make it into the Continent.
