Excellent practical mods. I also considered that exact fridge drop slide to replace my basic slide, but the weight (& cost) 😲 of the unit, I ended up deciding against it. How did you routed the wires for the LED ights on your upper tailgate back into the car? Did you go via the OEM wire route?
@OzTrax4X4
@OzTrax4X4 Жыл бұрын
Due to my accident I had no choice, but I worked with the Clearview Accessories engineering team to come up with a solution to run that specific fridge/freezer setup with that slide. Yep, definitely pricey, but at least I can get into the thing now and open the lid all the way up, which was a deal sealed for me. I ran two new power wires through the OEM route for each pair of lights and took the earth off the wiper motor in the rear, as the upper tailgate actually earth's through the latches when closed. Silicon spray will be your friend for running the wiring. 👌

Your 80 is looking schmick.👌 I've been waiting for a Kaymar RHS wheel carrier to come on Gumtree for a long time now, but still nada. I might bite the bullet and buy a new one. Great work on all your tasteful mods. The kinda mods I too would like to do on my rig. Though as I am running a RTT, reducing weight is now a priority also. 👍

Thanks mate, she's getting there. An alloy rack or even just some roof rack bars will offset the weight of your tent rather than running a platform rack, but then again, depends if you take your tent on and off. Lightweight is the way to go for sure. 👌 4WD Systems do a RHS swingaway if you want to go new. I got lucky with the Kaymar one but needed full restoration for it to come up like it has as well as a completely new mounting bracket manufactured to mount it all up as the original was rusted away and cut in half by the previous owner.

Hey mate, awesome video and 80 series. Do you think the 80 series is a much better car the 90 series Prado? I have a 90 series that needs a bit or work, not sure whether to spend the money and time rebuilding the 90 series or buy an 80 series and use that as the base.

Hey Adam Glad you liked the video, trying to improve on the production quality as I get better gear to do so. :) Having now owned both, I can say that they both have pro's and cons. The 80 series is a noisier vehicle and a bit of a rougher ride, but is way more robust than the IFS 90 series due to being solid axle. The 90 series is a far nicer and more comfortable ride and way less cabin noise. I don't have the constant lower ball joint replacement issues, but I do have to adjust the front wheel bearing freeplay every 5-10k (well, Sock does it for me currently) haha. The 80 series is a bigger vehicle too, where the 90 series I was very limited in storage space. And then there is the point of being diesel. Yes, its expensive to maintain, but I found the 90 series on 285's used a heap more fuel than the 80 series on 285's, both being the same tyre and this comes down to having the torque to turn them. A petrol makes torque higher up in the rev range, and a diesel makes it low, so don't need to flog the diesel to get it going. The other factor in the 80 series vs 90 series is that there are far more aftermarket options for an 80 series than there are a 90 series. Ultimately, the decision is yours which way you go with it, but I think the 80 series wins overall if you factor in everything mentioned above. Hope that helps you make a decision. I will be doing a video on this at some point, I just need to borrow Socks rig to do a comparison. Cheers Mick

Did the tailgate pad come clear wrapped from Toyota or did you do it yourself? Great rig. Cheers.

Hey Chris That is a factory option I believe. Haven't seen too many with it to be honest. Thanks for the compliment, appreciate it. Cheers Mick

Definitely not 🤣 This came with some cheap Brazilian shocks (can't remember the name), looks to be King Springs up front and Lovells in the rear. Will get something way nicer, just have to put some cash aside. Suspension is the very last thing you should do on your build so you can get your spring rates right and not do it twice. 😎

You mean play in the steering box? You will have some play after adjustment, but it shouldn't be binding up when you turn.

How did you get from the switch panel to the roof rack and into the boot lid
@OzTrax4X4
@OzTrax4X4 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate Switches get power from the 12v panel on the cargo barrier, the roof rack light loom is run through a hole drilled under the black 1/4 vent trim and the power to the tail gate light is two seperate power wires run up the D pillar, above the roof lining and in through the factory rubber tubing, down the side of the upper tail gate and into the cavity behind the trim. Earth wiring will need to be tapped into your rear wiper motor earth as the upper tailgate earths through the latches when it's closes, which was a pain to find out.
