Complete video showing you how I change my CVT transmission fluid oil in my 2017 Prius prime. Easy DIY you need about 3.5 quarts is what I recommend for the drain and fill. You need a size 10 hex for the fill and drain plug. You’ll also need New washers if you wish to use them. This works for the non-prime models as well for the year 2016 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022, Prius prime
There’s a video of the first time I changed my CVT transmission check out my channel when I did it around 90,000 miles

My 2019 is at 188,xxx. That heat exchanger by the exhaust just went bad. Thought my head gasket went. Then started looking up what it could be because it didnt show signs of head gasket fail on the plugs. Glad I dont have to pull the head.

Just did the same thing & coolant w my 2019 awd prius, 55K miles. The only thing I did differently was I gravity fed the new atf-ws fluid using a clear vinyl hose and funnel from the top of the engine vs using the pump to pump it into the cvt. Saw this technique on another YT post. Works great and no mess. Also, both the fill and drain plugs have washers, I reused both. Lastly, I pre-purchased extra plastic clips prior to doing the service. From past experiences, I knew that Removing the protective under panel I'd be breaking many of them, so I just replaced with new ones from Amazon.

Yes, those are all great tips! I should’ve tried the gravity feed as well from the top! It’s definitely less messy. Thanks for watching the video! I also bought extra plastic clips because you’re right about that. They do break easy but they are pretty cheap.

127K on my 17 Prime. I have had the coolant, ATF, and 12V battery on hand for a while, but haven't done any of them yet. September or October when I do my next oil change, sounds like the right weather to spend a day working on the car here in NH. I'll also be installing a DC-DC charger and an inverter, for a LiFePO4 battery I use to run a freezer in the car when camping. The 12V power outlet was marginally OK for that, but only because I kept the car in Ready mode overnight for climate control. I want more power, and faster charging. Your video looks about like the same setup as on the 2005 Prius that I did the ATF on many years ago. I did it by jamming tubing over a long funnel's narrow outlet, and threading the tubing down to the fill hole. Worked like a charm. I added fluid until the inlet overflowed. I used small enough tubing to keep the flow rate very low, so that when getting close to the expected quantity I could add 1/4 qt to the funnel and then go under the car, ready to put the tubing into an emptied ATF bottle and keep the excess. Let gravity do the work.

I like the gravity idea! I should have tried from overhead!

Great video, do you regas service your AC, if so how often? I understand doing so keeps the electric compressor in good working order

I made video on recharging my air conditioning on my prime. It’s very easy to do. I did it for the first time this year, but I feel like I should’ve done it sooner. The air conditioning works even better now.

What ramps are you using? I bought the Harbor Freight ones and they weren’t low enough.

I edited my original statement. The ramps weren’t low enough. Thanks for the info.

rhino ramps have the low profile version. For low clearance like Prius.

Thank you for your videos! I also have a 2017 Prius Prime with a 135k miles and have been following your videos on all maintenance. I haven't seen a video about brake fluid yet, but it would be a great tutorial! I just did mine. Also, have you considered getting a metal skid plate in place of your plastic engine splash guard? I recently recently completed the installation and have felt more comfortable driving on gravel roads and safe from road debris!

Glad u found washer because they both have washers. Did u have to take off two sections of bottom panels? So plugs are on the driver's side but toward the middle & not the outside? Your old fluid looked pretty good! Your Prime has been a good car to u! 👍

Yeah, I’m glad I found my other washer too! But all I did was have to takeoff the large rear panel. The front plastic panel was fine. I was thinking about adding the panel removal clip video , but it would’ve made the video too long. Lol

Hi, thanks for sharing that. I have 2017 Prius Prime Premium, I haven’t changed transmission fluid before. When I check with the local Toyota dealer, they recommend MB1 fluid and they said the car doesn’t have traditional transmission fluid. But you were using ATF in this video. What did I miss?

Definitely make sure you check your owners manual sometimes dealerships are not always right either

Also, this is my second transmission change using the same stuff as the first time. I can’t remember, but I might’ve done a ATF transmission fluid for the first one you’ll have to look back in my archives.

No never have on any vehicle transmission and I have done many. When you drain and fill that’s the best way for most cars. Unless it calls for it.

Did you have to reset anything like the maintenance reminder that comes up between oil changes?
@DIYBIGMAN
@DIYBIGMAN 4 ай бұрын
The maintenance reminder has no reset for the transmission oil change. So no need for that

Sometimes you make do with what you have. Not always perfect but in my case good enough.
Never do THIS to your Toyota Hybrid New edition!
