Did I miss something? I didn't see how he did the water pump replacement in the video. He just said he does it from the top and bottom and it's really easy and 1 hour job for him because he's done so many. Would have been a much better video if he actually showed what we needed to see which is his tools and techniques to get to every bolt and all his shortcuts that he learned over time. Just saying it's really easy is insulting and useless.

Man, I was having the hardest time trying to determine where that noise was coming from. My dad was convinced it was an engine knock and I thought it was some kind of heat shield rattle or a broken off piece inside the CAT CON. We were both wrong apparently. Gonna attempt this repair tomorrow. I've never heard a car quite make that sound before, so I was truly perplexed. Thanks!!!!

ADVICE: Triple check you have removed the original metal gasket from where the water pump mounts to. Its easy to overlook since the old gasket can be hard to notice since it can become corroded & stuck on the engine. This happened to me and the new gasket wouldnt seal properly 2 diffeent attempts unril i finally noticed the old gasket was still on. It turned a simple jon into a nightmare. BE AWARE OF THIS!

Mine only makes noise for like a second on a cold start up. That sounds awful. This is an apparent design flaw in the VVTI engine (T-SB-0041-13). You would think Toyota would recall it.

I have rav4 2000 making grinding noise while driving over 30+ miles speed. Sounds like the hall front scratching grinding noise. I thought maybe weel bearings are gone. But now not sure, because on the turns there is no bearing noise only when driving over over 30+ ...?

If the noise goes away when turning then yes you have a bad beating . If turning left no noise then you need the right front bearing

Awesome analysis and repair. I also have a Rav4, 2007. My problem with it is incosistent starting. In fact sometimes it wont start all day. I've done many repairs to it without success, except i have not replaced the fuel pump. If you think the fuel pump maybe the problem, how do i get to the fuel pump to replace it. Can i get to the pump from under the back seat inside the car. PS: I could not find the fuel pressure test tire valve at the fuel rails, Where would it be. Thank you for your help.

I have the same car and I had the same starting problem, but i got it fixed permanently. The problem was fixed by replacing the crankshaft position sensor. I purchased it from Autozone for about $90. It was an easy fix.

My rav has this rattle but it only lasts a few seconds, and once it’s warmed up for 5-10 seconds it will not make the noise again. It seems like something isn’t getting oiled properly upon ignition..

Great trouble shooting video. Mine has an intermittent engine rattle. Sitting in park no noise but sometimes when sitting in drive with foot on brake until acceleration to 1,500 there will be a rattle. I almost thought it was a heat shield but can’t find anything loose. I just tried to duplicate now with sitting in drive with my foot on the brake and nothing. I’m going to pull the belt this weekend and check for loose pulleys.

I’ve seen ppl on forums talk about that and solve it as either a loose muffler or a torque converter issue that, depending on if you want to try a DIY fix, could involve draining and replacing transmission fluid + an additive that could stop the rattle, or a whole transmission replacement

Eric F. I’ve got mine finally isolated down to the AC compressor. Works fine but when the rattle is there I turn off the AC and it goes away. Probably will have to change that in the future.

yours a v6? could be what nestor said or the water pump and even timing chain being loose until warmed/tightened up etc i have a noise on passenger side too but it seems down lower, like by the crank possibly but absolutely no metal in oil, even took the filter apart

@@YungSteambuns i got mine resolved a month ago. culprit was the tensioner pulley and idler pulley going bad. got is replaced along with the belt and everything is nice and quiet now.
