@Chaumander Like I said it'll depend on your location. I am in Hawaii and we have some of the highest prices for vehicles and a friend of a friend bought a Maverick for 27k. Judging by that, I would assume other locations would cost less.
@zlonewolf
@zlonewolf Жыл бұрын
@Rob bor 27k is 25% above MSRP. Look up car max, kbb, local dealer's websites, etc. Dealerships are having mavericks at 35k a full 40% above MSRP. And thats generous. Other more expensive cars and trucks in more premium brands are same. Its a "free market". Remember that has not changed.

30 years ago, stuff got built and moved before trucks became 4 door luxury monsters with 1,000 pound feet of torque. Campers didn't need 20,000 pound trailers to get away from it all. We have bloated ourselves into truck and RV oblivion. It is good to see a segment of the market coming to it's senses.

Dude I totally agree. Everytime I bring up the stupidity in the Tundra I get all the fan boys riled up and rushing to defend it. I absolutely hate the Tundra and every generation of engine it has had. None of them were powerful, produced good fuel economy, were easy to work on, reliability was questionable, payload is almost always the worst out of the lineup, and rust has always been an issue with them. I wish they would've sold their 70 series in the US like they do in Australia but they won't sell us their cool stuff.

I remember buying my brand new Toyota 4x4 truck back in 1983. It was fully loaded, had the SR5 package, chrome package, and also an aftermarket fiberglass camper shell. It was just barely under $14,000 out the door, including tax, license and registration fees. Boy, those were the days.

Be careful saying a new car cost $14k in the 80s. People today think that everything was cheaper back then.🤣 Like, why didn't you buy 2 for that price 🤷‍♂. But seriously, yes you did get more for your money. Vehicles in the 70-90's had a bit more value. Today's inflation doesn't add any value, just a higher price tag.

It was a tough little truck . And the model lived up to its badging, I could put a ton of coal in the box and the factory mudflaps would barely touch the ground. It was a good little truck but had some problems one of which was the rust through of the frame rails and body parts which I was never notified by Toyota of a recall. Just a bit of a correction: The Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado were not fully discontinued. They only left North America for a brief period in the 2010s. The T6 Ford Ranger (the most recent generation) was conceived by Ford Australia in 2011 and sold worldwide (minus North American markets until 2019). The Chevrolet Colorado was in a similar situation, except it returned only after 2 years of discontinuation.

The conventional full size trucks get poor fuel mileage, and everything on them costs more. For example, premium tires will run you well over $200 each plus installation, and maybe you'll need new TPMS sensors at $65 a pop times four or five. Then there are the outrageous insurance premiums you get to pay for your $50 K truck.

Compact trucks were relatively common in the 80s and 90s, until most of them were phased out and everything kept growing in size (and SUVs/Crossovers starting replacing sedans). Trucks like the original Ford Ranger and Chevy S-10/GMC S-15 were often found as fleet vehicles for delivery companies or for people who just wanted a cheap utility car, since you could buy those for $12,000. They weren't high tech, fast or powerful, but were affordable, simple transportation that was also pretty reliable and easy to run.

Had a GMC Sonoma for 17 years. Not the highest quality vehicle, but I loved it. By the time I was ready for something new, there were no compact trucks being made. Reluctantly, I bought a RAV4, and it's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. Can't wait to see the Stout!

My first pickup was a GMC Sonoma. I had it for about 11 years before I upsized to a Tundra. The bigger truck is much better for hauling firewood, which I do regularly enough to justify it, but it's a lot harder to get in and out of.

I’m super happy about this for the old school small compact owners (guys & ladies) of the old days, essentially going back to the roots affordable compact trucks. Compact trucks essentially lost there way imo! What used to be a compact truck has turned into a FatPack truck that costs as much as a full sized truck, causing full sized trucks to evolve into a Hog-Size truck you can barely fit anywhere on a trail .

ive been in the car business for 20 years and it made absolutely no sense for manufacturers to stop making small trucks like the s10 , ranger and original tacoma. Alot of people love the small trucks to be able to reach into the bed , carry mulch, pool supplies etc. I had the toyota sr5, actually 3 of them and loved them. Would have bought another but the prices they were charging was the same price as the full size and the gas mileage was the same. Stop making the truck to tow with cause that is what kills the mpg. Make a simple truck, we dont need four doors since no one ever sits in the back of them, just make a regular cab but make the bed where you can put a sheet of plywood between the wheel wells, and keep the price down and you will not be able to make enough of them.
@GeneralChangFromDanang
@GeneralChangFromDanang Жыл бұрын
From what I understand, it all came down to the CAFE standards. MPG requirements keep increasing every year, so each new model gets a bigger and bigger footprint and a smaller engine to avoid paying the associated fines.

Most people need a truck to do regular hauling. I don't see how people can spend 50K+ on a truck. Even used ones command a crazy price. With today's gas prices not going down anytime soon something that gets respectable mileage is a plus.

Toyota is all over the place with the pricing. IMV-0, and other compact truck around $10,000. Toyota must release the compact trucks to capture the market from Ford. Time waits for no company to put their product on the market. Once the buyer made a purchase of a compact truck. It is too late for the other company to sell their product. Early bird gets the worm ???

The beds are too small in these new small trucks. They are useless. They are missing out on the youth market. A six foot bed is functional for carrying lumber, plywood, surfboards and yard waste. I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma single cab with a six foot bed and am asked all the time if I want to sell it. These are kids that are wanting my truck. One that is not too expensive..... The youth market can't afford a $40k truck...
