Thank You! My husband and I never had any intention of trading off our 2021 SR automatic, but last time we had it serviced, a new 2024 manual off road GREY TACO was at the dealership and we drove it just while we were waiting 'for kicks'! Ha!!! We're waiting for OUR Supersonic Red Off Road to arrive any day...we're both 'manual trans truckees', and we ONLY drive RED!! We've settled for autos over the years, our last manual a Subaru Forester - so hard to find manuals - Can't Wait! This video really helped! And, by the way, we're retired farmers, both turning 75 this September. 😊GOTACO...

Nice video. I plan to buy a manual transmission Tacoma within the next 6 to 12 months. I drove a lot of stick-shift vehicles between 1975 and 2003 but haven't owned a manual in 20 years. Really looking forward to it! But, I am not "too proud" to admit that automated rev matching on down-shifts might be a really nice feature. I really like your comments about rev hang -- matches what I had figured out from other channels that if we just shift slowly it should be smooth.

The comment here on my end was more that you could feel your way through the clutch to start with no problem. Often times with modern units the feel of the pedal is gone which makes it a bit harder. Agreed it really helps!

I have a 2003 Tundra base MT. 328k miles on her. I also have a 2020 TRD OR in MT as well. I have to save that I love the transmission on the Tundra much better. I find the clutch is much more responsive, but it is harder for an inexperienced driver to drive. I have 0-2” of roll back on a steep uphill incline, 2-6” on the Tacoma. Still love both trucks. I would kill to have a 5.7 MT Tundra.

Just bought a TRD sport yesterday and thought the lurching was just my rustiness with a manual (been at least 15 years since I owned one). Thanks for explaining the rev hang! BTW, I was in the dealership almost all day and couldn't get them down much off of list, guess the sport isn't hurting like the other trims.

Hey there, thanks so much for watching my review of the Tacoma manual transmission! I'm glad you found my explanation of rev hang helpful. It's definitely something to get used to when switching back to a manual after a long break. I'm sorry to hear you had a tough time negotiating the price at the dealership. The TRD Sport is definitely a popular trim, so it can be harder to get a discount. However, it's always worth trying to negotiate, especially if you're willing to trade in your old vehicle or finance through the dealership. If you have any other questions about the Tacoma or manual transmissions in general, feel free to leave a comment below or reach out to me directly. Thanks again for watching! I hope you enjoy your new TRD Sport!

Thank you for such a clear and detailed manual Tacoma driving review! I daily commute a Mazda6 and would be interested in a manual Tacoma but none can be had within 200 miles of me to even give it a try. A bit frustrating. This reminds me that I didn't purchase a Crosstrek because of bad rev-hang + numb clutch + lack of power, which made it difficult to drive smoothly after years of driving manual. I still really appreciate a quality manual transmission done well in a car/truck and would like to give a Tacoma (TRD off road?) and that IMT feature a fair shot if only it was available. I don't want to have to order just to test-drive one.

Do you feel like the lower redline due to NVH was justified by Toyota? It's a really interesting choice how they made it redline nearly 1000rpm lower...the rev hang and the odd low redline can be addressed with tuning most likely. Just curious if you feel their reasoning of vibration was justified

@@MoneyShift Just because it wasn't in the past doesn't mean it couldn't have been with the 4th gen :) . There's no technical limitation, not asking physics defying technology here lol. But at the end of the day, I am still grateful Toyota is at least offering a manual at ALL.

@@officialyasir all fair points! It can be tuned out of other models so I’m holding on and having conversations with tuners to try to bring that to the Tacoma as well 🫡

ok fine but then why is the rev hanging? back when efi was new they turned off the fuel cut off in the efi but they did this because they didn't understand how to setup their efi maps. This was bad because it only hid how bad their maps were but caused a lot of broken rings. they == GM. Toyota was probably last to adopt efi.

driving any car with rev hang isn't the same for me as it used to be. even 'tuning' it out doesn't really get rid of it fully. if you've driven older cars with a manual you'll notice it a lot. kind of defeats the purpose of a manual where you're in control of everything. with rev hang, you're not really in control if you have to wait for the engine tune to do it's thing. rip true manuals

Ya that’s a valid point, it definitely takes away some of the manual experience.

Why oh why did Toyota not offer the manual in the new 4 runner? I mean, come on! It's literally the same platform. So disappointed.
