I just installed these bad boys and absolutely love them. It’s well worth having to drill and rivet to get this level of installation. Those “no drill” models have a leverage point that don’t instill confidence in me that they’ll hold up user time. These are positioned in a way that I feel provide better support to the hood.

I’m from Rawlins, Wyoming. This hood prop system is what I truly need for my 2019 3rd Gen Tacoma DCLB TRD-OR pickup. Took delivery of the cool long-bed truck after trading in my 2016 3rd Gen Tacoma DCSB TRD-OR. Preferred long bed over the short bed version.

Mebane, North Carolina here! 2016 4x4 SR5 I absolutely asked a Toyota engineer why there weren't hood struts on the Tacoma. I asked them to please add this as an option. I can only hope they took it back with them. For me, I will have to use one of these systems!

Yeah damn stick is so dangerous I could wait to get these on I got the higher level ones after you unlock the hood on finger and it goes up by itself nice install man exactly the way I did it great job I am not sure if you did it or not but when drilling the whole for the hood I wrapped electrical tape around the top of the drill bit only allowing a small amount to protrude and drill very slow ones the bit went through the steel the tape kept it from going through the outer hood

Drill bit stop collars and/or tape (really?) can slip thus ruining your day faster than anything. I use copper tubing cut to allow only the minimum drill bit tip exposed needed to accomplish the drilling through the metal (hood or anything else that stopping the bit is critical). When the bit pierces the metal, the tubing stops you from going any further. No slipping of some mickey mouse collar or (even worse) tape. Just make sure your bit is tight in the drill. Use only high quality bits that are sharp. Cheap usually equals disaster waiting to happen, especially if it involves an allen (hex) wrench (i.e. stop collars).

Do the struts open the hood the same height as the stock hood prop? I have the Cali Raised ditch light brackets and Baja Design Squadron lights that are already close to touching the windshield when opened at stock prop height.
