The only time traction control should be turned of ,is if you're stuck in snow or wet mud..where you have to move backwards and forwards in rapid succession to get out of those situations..Otherwise your traction control should remain in the on postion.As it stabilizes the vehicle during hard stops and sharp turns and in slippery conditions on wet pavements.

I've definitely had the traction control kick on a few times, usually on wet roads. Having had most of my driving experience without that feature and having had experiences correcting for skids, I must say that I'm glad I have it - esp given that my current car is the first car that I've ever purchased new.
@PabloGonzalez-hv3td3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like stability management not traction control. Related but different systems. SM is a lot "smarter" than TC.
@CamdenBloke3 жыл бұрын
@@PabloGonzalez-hv3td you are right I looked it up - the full name is 'dynamic stability control.' I drive a 2018 Mazda 3, and prior to this car I've only owned used cars that I usually bought when they were about 10 years old or so, so I'm not always up on what is 'normal' on newer cars. I was going with a friend who was shopping for cars and on a 3 year old Nissan versa note they were looking at saw the traction/stability control button and was like, "oh look it has the skid control thingy. That's really good." The dealer gave me a weird look and was like, "year, pretty much all cars have that now."
@PabloGonzalez-hv3td3 жыл бұрын
@@CamdenBloke They've been around since the early 90s but the Stability Management side used to be more common on high power/end vehicles until about the mid 2000s. Traction Control was far more prevalent. I know that in the last decade the systems have been made mandatory in parts of the world. Many systems still allow for the quick disabling of the traction control side without disabling the entire Stability Management aspect. The former only limits wheel spin while the latter can affect steering.
@CamdenBloke3 жыл бұрын
@@PabloGonzalez-hv3td It looks like my 04 cavalier did have that. It definitely wasn't nearly as good as my Mazda. I've never had to corrective steer on my Mazda, but I've felt the automatic correction kick in a few times. I think that I remember a light going on on the dashboard of my cavalier, but I just assumed it was telling me that I *was* slipping. My 95 BMW 315i had rear wheel drive and slid all over if I tried to drive the morning after a heavy snowfall (I used to live in Illinois). I'm pretty sure my 91 Accord didn't have any. All the other cars I've owned were from the 80s.

One time I was doing a pull on one of my main streets and it was rainy and I hit a patch of water and the traction control light came on and I felt it in the tires - not loss of control but I was on a layer and it caused my tires to lose traction for a second (in the straight line) but yeah I’m grateful. I’m very grateful for traction control off too because drifting is very very fun

I have a 2011 Camry LE, I live in a area with some mountains. FWD & Traction control together with good tires gets me home every time. I am on my second set of Goodyear Assurance all season tires. All you have to do is have a slow foot on the pedals and you sorta putt-putt through the rough spots. But when it gets real bad, with FWD you rock the steering wheel back and forth. This allows your tires to bite into the snow. The Camry is a champ ! I love sedans.
@ShalinAtaya5 жыл бұрын

@@ShalinAtaya Your front wheels are the power wheels, when they are slipping or spinning in the snow, turn your steering wheel left and right a few inches while slowly stepping on the gas. Even if you aren’t stuck in the snow but need to traverse deep snow you must have the traction control off. If not the computer will actually apply the brakes while you are trying to increase power to get you through the snow. It feels like the vehicle has actually lost power and there is something wrong with the engine. I’m sure this is the same as when you are in deep mud, sand or experiencing wheel slippage in rough terrain. My experience is in deep snow in Wyoming. That’s why when you lock your 4 wheel drive system into low range, it automatically disables traction control.
@robertshiell887 Жыл бұрын

@ronaldrrootiii6040 Жыл бұрын
Just depends on the make because Land Rover is the opposite in low range it just grabs the spinning wheel and makes the open differential become like a locked differential so that the wheel not spinning gets grip and moves you immediately. It works extremely well and you never want to shut it off it's not even a switch to shut it off. It's pretty famous off-road traction control

@brianpdaniels5 жыл бұрын
This info is incorrect, at least for the Tacoma. On my Tacoma disabling the traction control only prevents the computer from attenuating throttle input, stupid stability braking still occurs. This stability control really is horrible on ice, snow, mud or gravel. On a logging road with stability control enabled, with a oversized logging truck bearing down on you, this feature will get you killed. I learned to drive, if I want reduced throttle input, I will take my foot off of the gas pedal. The stability braking simply corrects the vehicle's path of travel via alternating braking input. I learned how to steer a vehicle in a skid during drivers ed. I don't need this extra, unnecessary wear on my brakes. This is only "feature" if you are an incompetent driver.

To my knowledge, Traction control causes excessive wear and tear on front end parts, and its not as nice to drive with it on, as it catches some when taking off from a stop. This is in the case of my own 300hp front wheel drive Chevy Impala. I tend to turn it off everytime I jump in the car, unless it's wet or icy/snowy. Just annoying that it is automatically on every time I start the car.

It’s hard to loose traction with both our Outback and our Forester. But it can be done for fun 🤣

Traction control improves cornering and acceleration by compensating for the error of driver's input to the throttle by controlling the wheel speeds, it's different than ABS because the later only controls the braking on the wheels.

@@tristan5843 so I’m confused cause people say to drive wit it off? Which benefits do you get besides donuts n to get out of being sick win snow? I drive a G37s coupe, in the city (LA) what would you suggest for daily?

@@swervv2957 ok so the purpose of traction control is so you don’t spin out. Let’s say just on a normal sunny day you’re driving on a highway and you serve, or you turn ur wheel to much for the speed ur going. What will happen is that your tires in the front will turn but because the back tires still are going forward there’s a possibility that you will fishtail- basically you start to drift. What traction control does is that when it detects a wheel spinning faster then the other wheels it will reduce power going to that wheel so that you’ll regain traction. So for every day driving you would want to have traction control on in case u serve to hard or turn to quickly and looses traction.

@@swervv2957 I mean unless your a really good driver who has really good control of your car or you want to drift or get out of mud, I would keep on traction control

It's always on, so pressing the button actually turns it off

Do you know if the pulse signal throws a positive or ground signal to brakes thanks
@christianperspective95273 жыл бұрын
it uses a network called Controller Area Network or CAN The pulse signal is a digital signal from each of the 4 wheel speed sensors. The ABS module reads the 4 sensors and sends out Data on the bus. The PCM (Powertrain) receives a vehicle speed signal from the ABS to control things like engine timing and transmission shift. When the ABS senses a wheel spinning the ABS will send a torque reduction request to the PCM this action will cycle as the wheel begins to spin and stop to spin so that maximum torque is applied to the wheel without making it spin. This is generally how it works today, there are variations among platforms and there are some older version which work a bit differently.

A lot of persons do not know this option on the car. Ignore the car manual instruction. Do not understand the car, mecanic, ABS, brake, etc. TRC is good any time but not in deep snow. On the hole w/ice, climb a hill, etc. the TRC is ambigue. TRC=loss a engine power. W/o TRC attention to the engine RPM, do not touch the red line.

I have BMW X drive with all kinds of safety features and still not sure what to do if I am stuck in deep snow. I asked my dealer and still confused especially the part about rocking back and forth.
