This advert has payed tribute to the creator of The Snowman and Father Christmas books among many others, Raymond Briggs who died earlier this week.
A classic 1985 advert of Toys R Us that shows a reference to Raymond Briggs' The Snowman film adaption from 1982 which involves a teddy bear instead of a snowman, ''walking in the air'' out of the boy's bedroom to visit the iconic (and well remembered) toy store which has Geoffrey under one roof, Toys R Us which sold thousands of toys, whenever they could wish for, this advert was aired shortly after Toys R Us opened in Britain (just before the iconic ''Magical Place'' advert being shown a few years later in 1989) with only 3 stores being operated during that year, Wood Green, Woking, Cardiff and Basildon with 102 stores being opened by the following year and counting until it went bankrupt and shutting down all of its stores by March and April of 2018, which makes it up to 105 (which confirms they are still planning for a comeback by 2023), and some clips of this advert was used in the 20th anniversary documentary, The Making of The Snowman in 2002 and Channel 5's Greatest Ever Christmas Ads.
The rendition of Walking in the Air from this advert is actually sung by Welsh singer, Aled Jones.
Directed by Mike Stuart, Jill Brooks and Julia Roundtree at J.R. Stuart Brooks.
