What you said is true for any 3way switch not just smart switches, this was of no help to me. Thanks for trying

Nice video - just a couple of points though if I may, intended constructively, not criticism - the other switches are not 'dummy', they are referred to as dumb (i.e. Not Smart :) ) ; and you mentioned the 'line load' a few times - line and load are different things; the line is the 'live' wire from the circuit breaker; the load is the output wire to lamp. The switch should always go at the 'line' end (even though the switch common is labeled as Line OR Load it will not work correctly if installed at the Load end unless Two switches are installed and that is somewhat moot - TPLink needs to change their instructions). That was a great tip about identifying the travelers as they would be in the same Romex cable - that is probably the single biggest mistake people installing these make, getting the line and traveler black wires crossed. That is a simple way to tell if you don't have a voltage tester.

You can put the switch in the load side box, with some caveats: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX63aH6Li7l4gtE

Can you provide a picture of how you ended up wiring the switch in your box?

How to use the dimmer feature for led lights
@jasonsanders801411 ай бұрын
I found that to be an issue. The problem is some switches still send out small amounts of electricity that will be enough to keep an led fully lit. You basically need to get switches that can dim led.

so I feel like this is my issue but the video is not very clearly explained. so I am confused

would the switch that has the lead coming to it be the first in the circuit? If you take the switch out of the box (with power off of course), turn the power on and get a detector. If it goes off then that means that wire is the lead and should be the first in the circuit as that has the power coming from your breaker box. All the switches after in that circuit should not have any power going to them.

I think it is. I found later that it doesn’t matter as long as you don’t put in the middle of a four way circuit. It can be on ether end.

Wow well I’m still just as dumb after watching this and I was before I watched this video about 3 way smart switches. Dude didn’t show how he even wired his travelers or line to brass or load to black screws or vice versa. A lot of people doing these videos just like to hear themselves talk!!

Nice video Jason. I also have the Tp-link Kasa HS210. I'm using one smart switch in a 3-way circuit (hallway). When I power up the circuit, my hallway lights flash slowly. If I flip the non-smart switch, the flashing stops but the smart switch has no power. Is that normal before programming the smart switch?

I don't recall that issue my guess is that you may need to double check your circut. it sounds like your red common and line may be going to the wrong places. your switch should not turn the power off to the switch.

You didn't show how to wire the switch and you didn't have the camera on the switch when you were referencing. something on the switch.
