ax50 and sg108e both support static link aggregation. Which mean by connecting 2 rj45 cables between the 2, it will keep the connection alive when one of the 2 (rj45) cable suddenly failed/disconnected/gone? Thanks

Hi, thanks for the review. I have a question. If you disable dhcp server on that switch while connected to the mikrotik. can you still access web interface?
@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the switch has no DHCP server. Once you connect it to Mikrotik, it will act as DHCP client and requested for an IP address, and you can manage it with this IP address.

Does the Port-Based QoS function on this switch help with the bufferbloat in gaming? Or is the SQM in OpenWrt routers is still better when it comes to fixing bufferbloat in gaming?
@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late response. IMO, the Port-Based QoS in the switch should work better then the OpenWRT for plug-and-play users, unless your OpenWRT is running on high end socket / CPU. In term of control and configuration, I would go with OpenWRT. I will test it one day and update you.
@TheRickJames

I would actually use Port and Flow control on the switch, set the non essential ports to 100mbit and the gaming pc to unlimited or 1000mbit. Or if you have slower internet like 60mbit braodband for example set the gaming port to unlimited and the other ports to 5/10mbit

Nice video. It is an unmanaged switch, but you access the interface to show QoS, VLAN, etc. What is the difference for the others TP-Link that are smart or managed switch. Thanks again for the video.
@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, actually those Smart-switch as called by TP Link or Pro-switch or Netgear are all unmanaged, just that they added some L2 (OSI layer 2) features such as VLAN, multicast, LACP, etc and give it a beautiful name. There is no much difference or only a small difference in term of switching capacity, buffer size, jumbo frame, static link or dynamic link aggregation.

I have a question about the bandwidth control. This switch can manage the bandwidth and the AP router of tp link also does have bandwidth control. But as I’ve noticed, the router gives an average speed when i set the QOS (example: I set it to 75mbps, the router speedtest gives 93mbps). Does this switch provide exact or nearest speed limit? And as I read the comments below, you said its better to config on the router end than switch, why is that?

There are 2 main types of traffic: - Local traffic (from your PC to your local file server or from your media player to the NAS) - WAN traffic (traffic from your router to the Internet or from Internet to your router, for example download a ISO file from Windows server) - On your router it will be the SQM QoS where you tell the router your WAN (internet) throughput and it will make sure all connected clients have a stable connection by apply it own logic to control the packets flow or throughput of each clients, to reduce the ‘lag’ as much as possible - The QoS on the switch don’t care if it is local traffic (LAN) of WAN traffic (goes to the Internet), it will keep the throughput of the port below or the same with the value you set.

@@VanTechCorner okay I understand the QoS of the router. But I’ve set mine to the switch to give a speed fairness for each house of my apartment. This product is so good, I manage to access it via browser on iPhone only by detecting its IP address on the main isp router, no need for PC via lan. Thank you, I have so much learnings about your videos. I’m new to networking. Hope I can explore more with the help of your videos too. Thank you very much for the informative videos.

@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, technically, either way is okay. However, if you are going to connect PC to your switch, the cable should be connected to the router first, and then connect to your PC with the next one. This is to make sure the PC can receive IP address from the DHCP server of the router.

I have a modem and I want to buy a TP-Link AX10 for Wifi. I use two PCs through ethernet. I would like to segregate the Wi-Fi to IoT devices and two ethernet ports for my PCs. I think this little device can help solve this problem between the modem and router (so wifi router is port 3, PC 1 and 2 can go to Port 1 & 2). What do you think? And which VLAN setup would you recommend?
@VanTechCorner

@@VanTechCorner My current setup is with a modem/router which is given by the ISP. I want to disable the router function in it and use it as a modem. Other than that I want IoT devices (security camera, light bulbs, etc) to be connected to a fully separate network to not affect sensitive PCs. One option I found is the TP-Link guest Wi-Fi which in theory can block access to the main WLAN but I am not sure if I can trust it :) The other option would be this, where I use VLANs
@VanTechCorner
@VanTechCorner 3 жыл бұрын
I see, so port based VLAN will do. Just want to add that for some ISP you need to use their own device for PPPoE or DHCP or you have to set set it in bridge mode. Try to check it out first before buying the new router / switch.

Hi, the Port Mirroring function is used for data monitor / capture purpose and I suggest to turn it off, if you are just using the switch for normal usage/gaming. For example, you have an IP Phone connected to the switch port 1 and want capture the packets/call incoming & out-going from the IP Phone, then you can set up port 2 as a mirrored and connect a Voice monitor / PABX system to it.
