I think it's funny how a contestant had to remind Drew what the rules are about spinning the wheel, and then she wins!
@litigioussociety42492 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why people have a higher probability of hitting a dollar twice. There are a lot of people who spin the wheel almost exactly once or twice around. The first girl was luckier hitting the dollar, because she didn't spin it around exactly once or twice.

There was one instance during the Barker era where two contestants had, what Bob called, the "Bonus Spinoff". It ended with BOTH contestants winning $10,000 each, then having a second spinoff to determine the winner.
@JonesDylan8743 жыл бұрын
And then we had the events of 9/22/17. ALL 3 players got the dollar for $10K (Because of Drew's 10th anniversary) AND THEN 2 OF THEM GOT THE DOLLAR AGAIN FOR $25K! The 3rd one BARELY missed the nickel for another $10K. $80K was given away in that one showdown, which surpassed the normal maximum of $78,000.

Ah, I was expecting this to be a triple but its a double. Still pretty rare, though. I've seen all three contestants get 100's (in any combination of spins) just once, sometime around like 1993. All three contestants walked away with $1000. In that episode Bob mentioned it had happened like 5 times in the past.
@wudaddy9 жыл бұрын
One thing I always wondered, even as a kid: why was the wheel only "reset" after hitting $1.00? Why wasn't it reset each time? Of course, an obvious reason being saving time, but all the standard spins weren't really fair spins, because the next contestant spins from where the other left off. They have the rule in place that it has to make a complete rotation, but still, it's not a fair shot at $1.00 if only the first person starts at $1.00, then the others start wherever the wheel last stopped.
@MobileTaz9 жыл бұрын
+wudaddy Because during the regular play you get two spins. You can choose to stick with the first spin or risk going over. With the bonus spin you only get one, so it has to be set up to allow a bonus win on a single complete revolution (whether it is by chance or if the contestant has obtained a 'feel' for the spin and attempts to win by strategy).

odds are roughly 1/400 of getting the 25K with 6 contestants you have 6/400 or 3/200 or 1.5%. It is impossible to calculate exact odds because you can get two spins to get to $1.00 but not everyone takes both spins.

I read that TPIR is taped about 2 weeks in advance and even if you win prizes/money during the taping you aren't eligible to claim those prizes unless the show is actually broadcast. In other works if CBS breaks in during the show with a lengthy "Special Report" that pre-empts the show you won't win anything
@Doomwolf8200210 жыл бұрын
Actually how it works is that they can claim there prizes but have to pay the taxes for them which can be beyond what they can afford or take the cash equivalent which many do but only after the IRS takes out 60% of it which is done by an agent they have on staff, this isn't because the network's try to screw them over but do to it being the law otherwise game shows would be classified as gambling, it's been this way since there inception.
@bufnyfan110 жыл бұрын
Raymond C. Rogalski I knew about the taxes on the prizes-but unless the prize is actually shown on TV the company (i.e GM, Ford etc) doesn't have to honor awarding it---as I noted if you win a prize but your episode for some reason is pre-empted (i.e CBS News Special Report)-you don't win anything
@mathieubrouillette91009 жыл бұрын
***** Its because all of the prizes on the show are given to them free from companies in exchange for advertising
@MobileTaz9 жыл бұрын
+david graham LOL that is complete horseshit. Since CBS has put all episodes online to watch for the past almost 10 years, they are all considered to have "aired", regardless if it is pre-empted or not.
@fantasymonsters6 жыл бұрын
There is a LOT of bad information in this thread. I've been a contestant. I know, and I will explain exactly how it works: 1) After the show you can forfeit any prizes you win. You straight up say "I don't want this". You aren't considered to have won it and you gain no tax liability from it. Otherwise, you get the prize and the tax liability. 2) There is no "cash equivalent". Since most prizes are either given as part of advertising or purchased at SIGNIFICANTLY below retail value, there is no means by which they can "cash out" a prize. There have been suits and inquiries into things related to game shows and gambling, but as every game on The Price Is Right has SOME element of skill to it, it has been conclusively shown to not fall under gambling laws. 3) My show was taped in July and aired on Columbus Day, so roughly 2 1/2 - 3 months This was a good number of years ago now, but I would suspect the lag would be similar. Results will vary of course. They tape more than 1 week's shows in a week, so those who film later in the season will be held longer. 4) My prize showed up literally either 1 or 2 days after the show aired. You will leave the studio knowing what the air date is. 5) There *IS* a clause that will allow them to withhold prizes if a show does not air. Now, this isn't for why you might think. As far as it being preempted, that's not going to stop them from paying you. The press on that would be awful. In cases like that the show is generally thrown in to a later slot which is scheduled to show a re-run later in the season. If you were on a normal show, it will get aired and you will get paid. The reason the clause exists is for one of two major reasons: a) The show is cancelled. Like, The Price Is Right is cancelled. Yes, its preposterous to think this show could possibly be cancelled mid-season after things have aired, but this is a pretty standard clause through ALL of game shows, and there are MANY shows that might die middle of season 1 with episodes never airing. From a legal perspective it makes no sense for them to remove the clause since it does nothing but protect them. b) There is some form of a MAJOR abnormality on the show that causes it to not air. This would more than likely be some form of a major malfunction somewhere, be it during the taping of the show itself (technical issue not realized until later, an audience member going completely insane, Drew having a heart attack on air, etc) something catastrophic in post-production causing irreparable loss of footage (lightning bolt, fire), or some major legal reason they see why a contestant is not only not eligible, but they can't even show them on TV (candidate for very high public office, they go out a perform a quadruple homicide the next day, etc...). A show can still go on if a contestant is determined to be ineligible, and it has happened before - they will usually do a quick voice-over and/or text during the closing credits quickly explaining such a situation. To the best of my knowledge, no show has ever not been shown for the reasons I've listed above. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no show that has ever been taped has ever NOT aired. The one time it almost happened was when they had that showcase perfect bid a number of years back. The thought at the time was that the game and/or show had been compromised and would never air (hence Drew's VERY ho-hum tone when he announced it - he thought it wouldn't air). In the end I believe the producers could not get enough proof, and the truth is the amount of money actually "lost" from that was easily enough to just swallow, let the show air, sweep it under the rug and not deal with the bad press.

This isn't the rarest showdown. Yesterday I watched another Price Is Right KZbin video where all three contestants each spun a total of $1. (I'm not sure about the date of the show featured in that other video. So, it's possible that at the time the one shown in this video occurred, it was indeed the rarest showdown.)
@ceilingunlimited24303 жыл бұрын
Not a math expert here, so I'm sure to be corrected by someone way smarter than me, but each spin is an independent event. We see a roll for 100, then 100, then 95, then 100. That sequence is four independent events, each of which has a 1 in 20 chance of happening. So, 1/20 = .05. That means .05 x .05 x .05 x .05 = 0.000625% chance for this event to occur. (Same could be said for ANY four consecutive spins of the wheel. Whatever the outcome is, there is a 0.000625% chance that a particular outcome occurred). So there you have it, straight from a guy who took a basic statistics course in college in 1985 or 1986. And here I thought I'd never have a use for it.

Well, I don't think it was a lie, but just a situation that doesn't come up that often leading to a hasty explanation. The rules for a standard bonus spin are "it has to go around once and there are no do-overs." However, two bonus spins acting as a spin off are pretty rare on the series. So that's not something that often gets covered. They would technically get a do over, but if they hit a money spot on that spin, they wouldn't win any money.

OK, this just proves that wheel is controlled by someone. I've seen that wheel spin many of times and it most definitely slowed down faster than usual.

wasn't ole bob barker involved in a showdown about hanky panky with floor presentation "models" to the net work or something?

Well, Bob did coin the phrase “Come on down”

I saw an episode with Bob back in the day where both people hit the $1 and then both people hit the $1 bonus. They had to do a second spinoff.

You know they have brakes on the wheel.. if you watch close you can see it slow down faster,

CAN YOU BELIEVE DREW MAKES 1 MILLION DOLLAR'S AN EPISODE
@acespider77816 жыл бұрын
Ultimately if this happened to me getting a dollar twice we would have to cut the show for a little bit I would have to change my pants LOL

Drew forgot to reset the wheel for the second lady. I'm surprised that no one from behind the scenes called it out to make her respin.
@brandonbowers27908 жыл бұрын
DrZiggyzoo1 you dumbo!! They only reset it after someone hits the dollar. They don't reset it after every contestant
@Rocky-he6nw8 жыл бұрын
+Brandon Bowers - They don't reset after someone hits the $1.00 tile. They only reset after bonus spins to the .05 cent mark to confirm a full rotation of the wheel. See 2:00 on this video where Drew did not reset the wheel after the first girl hits the dollar.

Shoot, I left for class less than a minute before this happened. And I was wondering as I left what would happen if multiple $1.00's were rolled, lol.

I have never seen anyone have a spasm as much as the blond from 1:43 - 1:53. That was scary and hilarious at the same time.
@canyoubelievethis2208 жыл бұрын
It would have been weird to see the second girl not get $1.00 but either .05 or .15 and not go to the showcase. She would still have money.
@jetcitysinatra73003 жыл бұрын
What is being said between 2:55 to 2:27 ? Drew says something and someone says something also at the same time.
@snarkloaf10 жыл бұрын
WHat would have happened if the very last spin stopped on 5? She wins money, but loses her spot in the showcase ?

snark loaf That happened once when Bob Barker was the host. Someone got .05, won the money, but lost the showdown.
