Very nice descriptions and detail on what you grew. Your Yog Shogoth produced similarly to mine this year grown from tubers. Huge plants, quite a few berries, but yield was not great. The original Sarpo Mira cross that Oxbowfarm grew out was out of a bulk pollen cross in 2016. I've grown out several generations from it and used some of the offspring out of the original cross in other crosses. Looks like you have the F2 out of it from Oxbowfarm, and the F2 seems to produce mostly yellow or red skin tubers, many are bicolor, but yields are lower than the F1 seed. This is speculation, but it may be that the F2 seed is either selfed, or was the result of a narrow cross to mostly siblings with similar genetic traits. Some of the others you grew look similar enough to what I have seen when I have grown them out as well. I think your TLSF 17 is probably a few generations from the original. Same with Pokhipsie, it probably is F2 or F3 out of the original Tom Wagner cross. I suspect some of the high yield results you see in last year's Oxbowfarm videos was partly due to a very wet year with regular rainfall. I was unable to duplicate anything close to those yields this year with the same clones from Oxbowfarm. A few still yielded well, but nothing like what he saw last year.

Yes, the 2018 Oxbow Potato yields were extraordinary. I didn’t think I could match those yields, but was hoping for better than what I got. The weather this year wasn’t nearly as potato friendly. Still ok by me however. I’d like to grow out more TPS derived plants form the Sarpo lines, I didn’t-save any seed from those this year, but them seem to have the most potential here. Also want to save seed from Yog Shogoth, lots of great traits outside of small tubers. Thanks for watching and commenting!

You got some nice stuff there - I can see some bright yellow flesh peeking through. Low dormancy (phureja type) diploids are adapted to warm mid-elevation Andean climates, so they tend to do better in hot conditions than other potatoes, with the exception of modern tetraploids bred specifically for warm climates. Some of your diploid lines, like Magic Dragons and Pokhipsie, are either partly or fully stenotomum types. These are cool climate diploids that will generally not do as well in hot conditions. Careta Amarilla is a phureja type diploid from Colombia that has performed well for a lot of people in warmer climates.

Thanks for the information! There was definitely some nice yellow flesh in some of the Diploids. Really interesting flavor and texture too, sort of carrot or beet like in some cases, sweeter and more earthy tasting, different than any other potatoes I’ve had. Hopefully I can keep them going until spring and then replant . I’m hoping the selected clones will do well for me in 2020. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Great video and nice harvest , thank you for sharing . There’s so much to learn and experiment with potatoes . Looking forward to grow some diploids too . Tom Wagner bred some great varieties but quite hard to get them in U.K. . Cheers , Ionuț

Are you in Contact with Tim Springston from the Kenosha Potato Breeding Project? You mentioned Oxbow Farm in your video.

I haven’t heard from Tim since last winter. He stopped doing anything online in terms of forum posts, KZbin videos, etc. I have been in touch with him in the past. My assumption is his absence is intentional so I am trying to respect that and let him be. Most everything he grows in his Potato videos was from Kenosha Potato Project seed train seed, if you wanted seed, join KPP, much of the same genetics are available still. There is a very good discussion initiated by Oxbow on the Open Source Seed Plant Breeders forum, I’d highly recommend you join that forum and check it out as well as KPP. I hope Tim is well!
