Rippotai I might be able to manage without. I have a TR-6s...which has all the classic Roland drum machines. Even if I just add the 707/727 to my TR-8, that doubles it’s current functionality. I had plans to pass it down to my 12 and 10 year old sons for their room.

Remember to update the firmware of the TR-8 to the latest version. You’ll get the 606 sounds for free!

I have got 7x7 expansion already. I can confirm this a must, and not too much money of what it is overall - all sounds in one machine, and you can combine them. My favorite is custom 909 kick, really for old school hard trance/techno. Thank you Roland! And thanks for Nu-Trix for bringing this up! 👍

Good sounds although it should be a free update imo not an extra $110 usd for an already expensive machine, other companies do bigger updates with no additional cost look at novation for example

I have a tr8 and it has started playing the clap when the fader is down and also the clap is playing through the toms channels. I have seen this on forums but no answer to solve it

It is going through any effect? If it goes in the reverb it still could be heard in the reverb output but from the direct sound.

I think it is a defective or worn fader. Had this problem too. Replaced it and the problem was gone.

Thanks, but what if I bought a pro or ultimate subscription for Roland for a year, would it be possible to upgrade my TR8 (for no extra money), and when my subscription ends it really doesn't matter if I have a lifetime key since it already updated the hardware right?

The TR8 upgrade (606 and +) is not included in the Ultimate, I think.

I bought a second hand TR8 last week, it's the first time I've ever used a drum machine, and although I might be interested in upgrading it to get the extra kits, I don't want to waste any money if my unit already has the kits installed. How can I find out if my TR8 has those extra kits on it? My machines current firmware is 1.5 I think, and if I hold down the drum kit button and turn the tempo knob, it scrolls through 707, 727, 808, and 909 on the menu, but I can't hear much of a difference to be honest. Do those extra kits only show up on the menu when you buy them, or did Roland add them to the menu to pre-empt people buying the upgrade, and they were maybe unlocked upon purchase? Does anyone know how it works and how you find out which kits your TR8 has installed? Cheers 😎👍

If you have the 707 and 727 sounds in it, you already have the expansion installed. You just need to installe the firmware 1.61 to also get the 606 sounds.

You have choose a color. pink for TR-808, yellow for TR-909, orange for TR-707, blue for TR-727, and white for TR-606.

I really have no clue about that. When I did update mine use the older system (before Roland Cloud) it needed my TR-8 serial number... so no.

You are right. The Tr-8s has more separate outputs to fill that need. That’s one of the reason I changed to the tr-8s.
