Thank you so much for this sample pack and video even more. It's a kind of a reference video to hear what distortion pedals would be suitable for the kind of sound you're searching for, so you don't need to pick up all 13. :) On the other hand, why not? I love experimenting with different distortion types on sounds. Cheers!

Man, how did the Chicago house producers do it in the late 80s early 90s? Or anyone during that era for that matter? Some say it was old Mackie cr1604, others say it was those old boss BX series of mixers.

This is great! Really interesting how different some of these affect the kick. Quick question: what are you doing in each iteration of the kick per pedal (there is a difference in tone or maybe you're dialing in more distortion or gain or something?).
@miatch
@miatch 5 жыл бұрын
I was just twisting the knobs on each pedal. I didn't write down which knob settings correlated to which sample. Also, since each pedal has a different set of knobs, what is being adjusted is different from pedal to pedal. I was just trying to demonstrate how the kick drum sounds through various knob settings on the different pedals.

Hi, thanks very much for this test, exactly what I needed. One question: @ the FuzzFace you mention 'screwdriver required'. For what is this required? Do you have to alter it to sound like it does in your video? Or something else?
@miatch
@miatch 10 жыл бұрын
To put the battery in it, you have to pull off the back, and to get off the back, you have to unscrew a screw. It was designed in the 60s, before they thought of easier ways to change a battery.

@ZenMountain
@ZenMountain 9 жыл бұрын
websynths mmm... a Black Lion PM-8 is a summing mixer, am I wrong? I was thinking something along the lines of A Design ATTY... but a reamp box makes sense to me...That's supposed to do the opposite from a DI box right? I've got some Germanium pedals that seem to need the right impedance. I'll try a Radial, thanks!

Didn't the video spell it out? It shows how I set the knobs on the 909, how I ran it through an attenuator (I used a PM-8 Summing mixer) then through the pedal, then into an Apogee Ensemble. That's it. If I were to re-do it today, I'd used a radial reamp in place of the PM-8.

how does the mf101 count as distortion XD
@miatch
@miatch 3 жыл бұрын
Some people think the only pedals that count as "distortion" are the ones labeled distortion. Some open it up to include those labeled fuzz or overdrive or tone bender. Other people think distortion is the "change in the form of a sound wave during processing", which we sometimes refer to as THD. In that sense, all pedals distort the sound. It's really just semantics though. Cheers!
