A fun segment. Don't really like the weird set - like they covered Johnny Carson's desk in plywood and industrial carpet? Hopefully the loudness doesn't start to seem unnatural. It's early so I'm giving girl every chance to fine tune things. To all the comments about "racist" jokes, please learn the difference between racial and racist. It's okay to talk about race as long as you're not directing hatred at anyone. Also, a visible minority person exists in a personal reality where they lack the option to simply ignore the issue of how race impacts their daily life moment by moment. Tbh, whenever Colbert mentions his Catholic upbringing or where he comes from, that is equivalent to what Lily does but people who are the same color and background as Colbert won't interpret him as being "too racial" let alone racist for always referencing HIS ethnicity or cultural background. Your discomfort points to your own inner issues about race perhaps. I personally don't expect Lily to be just like one of the guys. We don't want full-on Hillary in a manly pantsuit all the time. She's *not* like the rest so she shouldn't be measured by how much the previous guy hosts did it differently. I'm glad Colbert didn't come on and do a Top Ten List and I'm happy if Lily isn't just a Leno-with-ovaries or a curvy Fallon. Give her a chance.
@jusletursoulglobaby5 жыл бұрын
few thoughts.... conflating racism with hatred may be confusing to people bc race is the system. hate is a feeling so it's better associated with the affective dimension (prejudice). ppl dont seem to understand racism isn't about feelings or emotions. so when you distinguish between conversations about race and say it's ok as long as it's not hateful, you muddle terminology. conversations about race are not inherently "racist" bc a conversation is not a system of oppression. Colbert, as a catholic, speaking on his faith has nothing to do with his ethnicity. Catholicism is a religion so ppl may reference his level of religiosity, but never ethnicity unless he spoke of his ancestry.

Please get a little closer to the guests! And add more lights to the set! Also give some RedBull to the audience, they seem low on energy. And it would be a great idea if Lilly could hold the camera sometimes, to give it more of her trademark energy. This feels a little sterile compared to her usual stuff. BUT :) You are going great Lilly! More power to you! :)
