I think this is the nicest crankset for the money ever! I am an old fart on a bike now and have been racing, coaching and riding for many years (dropped the racing). What I like is they can be had in a 165mm which is more comfy on my knees and I am able to get lower as it opens up the hip angle (triathletes seem to appreciate this the most)

Just as an FYI for everyone in the US. As far as I can tell cvr or all the sellers in China wised up about what they have and now charge upwards of $80 for this crank(over $100 shipped as of 5/20). At that price you can find the unbranded version of the 105 cranks (shimano fc-rs510) cheaper, in the US, so shipping is a week instead of months, and live with the couple gram penalty. Plus I think the 105 looks worlds better than the cvr. I found my rs510 for $45 shipped on eBay.

I use this crank and Sensah 2x11. TBH I am not sure I recommend it. Shifting up the cassette doesnt always work, and I kinda have to "trim" the shift with a second hit of the shifter. Its perfect in the other direction. ALSO there is not an actual full groupset.... just sellers packing things together. My biggest issue is that you can't use larger than 28t even though its sold as a possibility. I have a 34t rear and cant use my full range because the cage isn't long enough on the rear mech.

@PeakTorque
@PeakTorque 4 жыл бұрын
@@rcranes2227 hey. It's not about pure strength of the axle. Its a material issue. Aluminium axles running on hard steel bearing races tends to 'gall' / cold weld. This then causes a stick/slip behaviour and leads to clicking, very common in 30mm Alu axles! You can google more about galling.

There's a new Aliexpress giant killer crankset. Roadrace Carbon cranks. They make both a single chain ring, and dual chain ring model. The dual chainring version weighs only 546 grams and is priced around $170. The single chain ring version weighs 475 grams and is priced around$150. Both prices include the chainring and bottom bracket! These weights are more in line, and comparable to ultra high end carbon cranksets like THM, Easton, and high end raceface cranks, at a fraction of the cost. I bought the single chain ring version, and it is incredible. Trace, I highly recommend this crankset, and hope you do a review on it.

So I'm on an older Diamondback Master... older Shimano 105 groupset of course.... I'm in the mountains. The more compact gearset seems attractive as I'm also going to be swapping my cassette from an 11-23 to an 11-28. It's a commuter/fun bike rather than a competitive bike so the low end is more a concern.

The reason is I needed something reliable for every situation with the lowest maintenance and cost possible. The bike weighs 9.4 kg, which is pretty much the lightest bike in this price range and I'm looking for some ways to save weight. Sure I could have got a solid mid-range road bike for 850 to 1100 € ... but I want more! One of my bikes is a Trek 5500 OCLV 120 carbon, which absolutely convinced me on carbon as a frame material. if I can go fast with Claris and can ride accident-free for a year, I'm ready for a modern carbon road bike.

Have you ever had problem, because it's direct mount. I read some articles, where they said that it's cause flex and other stuff. Thanks

I got a used Ultegra R8000 crank on Ebay for about what you paid for the China crankset, about a week ago. However... if I had seen this video first, I would have gone with the Chinese crankset. The cost of the crankset is just so so good for only a 37g penalty. Plus, most of the "feel" of the crank comes from having a good bottom bracket anyway.

Great video, i like your humor.I prefer how the Tiagra crankset looks though it's a little overweight but the value for money of the CVR chainset is incredible.Cheers

Hey guys ! Got a question here ! If this chainring got damaged or used, can I found replacement chainring or do I have to replace the entire crankset ? Because this is 2 chainring machined in one piece, can I buy like one 34 tooth chainring and one 50t and screw them together ? How is it going ?
@TraceVelo
@TraceVelo 4 жыл бұрын
So I looked into this myself, and you can buy replacement chain rings, but funnily enough, they cost around £70, so more than a new entire crank... Bit odd tbh

And I'm watching this with my carbon campa crackset..... for what I payed WAY more..... Still looks way better as well to be honest. Great video tho, always good to see people try cheep alternatives. Only problem with this crank as some one that lives in a flat country (The Netherlands)..... it's not aero at all!

SRAM Red is a heck of a lot lighter than 715g FYI - it's about 550g, considerably lighter than anything else there. Even the older generations were in the 600s.

Hey Luke Any idea on how to fix a magene cadence sensor on this Crankset? The arm forged form do not offer any flat surface to settle the sensor. Any magic tip ?

Hi Luke, goldix doesn t produce 48-32 chainrings but the French brand TA does it for SRAM cranks. Do you Think goldix chainrings are SRAM direct mount compatible? Thanks a lot: David

Why don't you tried to find carbon cranks? There are plenty of options with weights about 400 grams and cost near 100-120 dollars.

Cheap, Light Weight, Strong. You can Pick Any Two. You got cheap and light. How is that thing going to wear? Can you replace worn rings or is it to the recycling bin when the teeth wear down? Please update performance over time. If it can stand up to miles, you have a real winner purchase.

chris scott you can replace the ring set, but at that price just buy a whole new crank...that’s my plan. I’ve got over 2,000 miles on my crank without any issues so far

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this crankset. Will be a good upgrade from my 4600 Tiagara that has around 20k on it. Going to switch to r7000 groupset and think this is a spot where I can save some money with little compromise. Like the idea of a spider less crankset too but I'm not sure why.
