Tracey Spicer’s ‘mission’ was ‘all about trial by media’

Sky News host Chris Kenny says the mission of Tracey Spicer - who “led the charge” on the #MeToo movement - was “all about trial by media”.
“Spicer was on a mission to expose what she believed were the many predators in the Australian entertainment industry,” Mr Kenny said.
In 2017, Ms Spicer told the Daily Telegraph there are “30 to 40 alleged offenders so far and I would say the vast majority of them would have more than one case against them”.
“So we assessed Spicer’s promises against delivery,” Mr Kenny said.
“Only three matters, two of which resulted in criminal prosecution, as for those two … both men were grateful to be acquitted but understandably disgusted by what amounted to trial by media.”

I agree those who accuse innocent people of wrongdoing should be held accountable. But the bigger problem is the media who push this narrative to destroy peoples' reputation especially those they dislike. The media needs to be held accountable for thier actions. And the media has also been responsible for fueling the racial/cultural divide and contention that is tearing that country apart. But how can the media be held accountable without taking away freedom of the press? imo the one thing we can do is boycott the media stop watching CNN and other news outlets that push a narrative. When enough people turn thier backs on these news networks and the ratings hit rock bottom then the media will finally get the message that nobody trusts them.

I have been a film and television extra for many years and was a regular on one of Craig's signature shows, "Doctor Blake Murder Mysteries. " He was funny, witty and very professional. I shared a caravan once as a change room and he was a thorough gentleman. Not a hint of sleaze ever! Craig was down to earth and very pleasant at all times, not a hint of being more important than anyone else. I was horrified when I heard about the accusations of sexual misconduct. The man was destroyed. The show had to close and dozens of skilled professionals were out of a job. While pleased that he was found innocent, clearly the ordeal has taken a massive toll on him, his reputation and demeanour. No doubt that happy, chirpy, joyous person has gone.

The Senate Environment and Communications References Committee heard testimony in March 2021 of the "toxic" and "sexist" culture at Murdoch's Newscorp by a former employee too. I wonder why SkyNews Australia producers chose to not cover it.. Would it be because Murdoch also owns Sky News Australia? If we're going to call out Spicer's selective "journalism".. and I believe we certainly should... Shouldn't Murdoch's Newscorp be subject to the same exposure? It's cases like this that makes the argument for the return of criminal defamation laws. The competency to conduct a trial isn't restricted to courts. The required skills set, prowess could be procured from a range of sources. A court of law doesn't always carry the intellect, integrity and capability to dispense justice. The label "Court Of Law" need not be mistaken for "Always Fair Trial" OR "Justice Guaranteed". In a connected world, fortunately, we don't have to rely on one single institution to dispense justice. Law Courts in this day in age find themselves in a competitive environment, wherein they are a supplier of a certain kind of service, competing against several such other suppliers who not necessarily brand themselves as "State Agency". A trial by media isn't bad, if it can prove itself to be more equitable, efficient and cost effective relative to Law Courts. That is what people need. Quick, easy, cost effective access to justice. Not necessarily Law Courts.
