Trachycarpus takil palm planting in the North Pacific

Yeah the ones I got from Rob didn't germinate either! Good luck and I'm curious to see if they end up being pure takil.

Yes, all of the seeds I got from him for duds, to bad. I was excited to get some pure Takils

The ones I got from Gary Gragg have a more narrow strap leaf than T. fortunei. They might be a litter faster growing too, but it's too early for me to tell. I've got maybe 50 that germinated so far out of 400. I say so far because I believe more will pop this spring and summer even with aging seeds diminishing in viability over time.

Awesome! Well most every Takil seed I ahve ever had shipped to me were not true takils and the ones I got from Rose shop Rob in Utah never did germinate unfortunately. Those are the ones I was most excited about too

True takil/ aka Kumaon/kalamuni Have just 2 ridges & appear longer than fortunei. Cut cross section profile: 2 ridges vvv Vs fortunei's 4 ridges vvvvv

@@larroyo1973 It's a bummer I can never get true takil seeds. All the ones I buy seem to be something other than takil

@@BananaJSSI I'm not so sure because I believe the ridges refer to the first split leaves. I'm very pretty certain that I'm growing true takils that already look different from fortunei in many ways but when they germinated some of them looked quiet like yours in the video. I also noticed that after potting they can handle dry soil way better than fortunei and the older they get, the stiffer the leaves. I wouldn't give up on them being takil. I also noticed variation in them too.

How late into the year would you plant palms? I guess it also depends on where you are. I am in Shawnigan but just inside the watershed borders as it starts to climb towards the Malahat. So, definitely a cooler zone than you 9a. I would say closer to Shawnigan than the Malahat but in any case, gives you an idea. I see some cooler temperatures in the forecast...but I want to plant as I finally got possession of our house! I may just have to be patient though until Spring.

I plant year round in our climate but the best time to plant would be Spring and summer in the north. I have never had a problem so far

He gave them to me for free and I sent him seeds too, so no worries. It's to bad none of them germinated for me
