I use dawn soap and white vinegar in a spray bottle....I use a small spray bottle. You can go 50% soap and 50% white vinegar and/or add water to dilute if you want to do so.

Good stuff. Made this up and put it by my work station area. They seem to be attracted the monitors. Grocery guy said to also rinse off your fruit..especiallly the bananas. They lay their eggs on the skin. I've been doing that with the bananas and it's helped. Rest of our fruit goes in the fridge I think.

Just FYI, the bleach kills beneficial bacteria that eats and removes waste in your pipes. If you find your pipes being clogged on the regular, this may be the problem. Best of luck to y'all, love your posts!

Those things are unnerving!!! This spring, I have decided to start outdoors to avoid the torture (hahahaha). Those buzzards were eating at the roots of my seedlings and my efforts n growing my groceries were for naught. I've tried that method you demo'd and it worked for me. Another one I tried was slathering Vaseline on yellow post-it notes. I also tried peroxide/water mixture spray directly on the plants' soil surface. Hopefully, this summer, gnats will be a thing of the past. TFS.

Thanks Tracy. I’m new to Texas, so the humidity is new to me. I have gnats galore. I rarely see them, but I use the Zevo traps. I have 5 traps in my home and each within a month have some 30-40 gnats/friut flies on it. I am going to use your suggestions, especially storing stuff in the garage. Thx in advance for the tips.

I heard to make sure we clean the inner ring of the Sink drain right after we clean our dishes for drain flies. Like I think mine are? These apartment have general kitchen drain problems..they even transferred me to another Unit here for continual kitchen drain water intrusion/flooding!!😡

The $30 price tag on the lighted sticky plug ins is ridiculous. They do show your problem with fruit flies is worse than you think. I just made the cider vinegar with liquid dish soap, and set them out. Within 2 hrs, they made their way to the "traps" and sunk to the bottom. It does smell like pickles in my home. But, it is so worth not having those dive bombing bugs and the extra expense of the plug-ins.😊 Hopefully, this will end this irritating problem.

I do everything, but the electric zappers are great . Make sure you get sticky paper at the base of the zapper. While attracted to the light they land on the sticky cards and the vinegar solution is there too. The sticker paper gets more then anything. But they still keep coming. . No plants or food of any kinds laying is laying around. Mostly in my bathroom

Just a few things to add: You can use cheap white wine in the screw top bottles instead of ACV if you can't stand vinegar smell. You still have to add dish soap but I just use about 10 drops of soap. Using bleach down drains is great, but it does kill all of the good bacteria that eats those solids in your septic tank if you have one. So if you do have a septic tank, you'll have to add riddex or something every time after using bleach down all the drains. Using bleach in laundry once a week isn't as hard on the good bacteria, but more often, going to have to add it back in. Definitely helps ALOT to keep produce in garage in paper bags or in fridge. Bananas, onions, ripe potatoes and ripe apples seem to be the big draw for fruit flies.

I'm hoping that someone can recommend a product that will help me eliminate gnats from my apartment. I have already done the obvious things, such as getting rid of left-over food and empty soda cans, but the gnats are still there. I am going to be away from my apartment for about a week and a half, and I'm hoping there is some kind of aerosol can that I can use while I am away. I would like something that I can activated and work while I am away. Any ideas? Thanks.

I found what I wanted at Walmart. The product is called "hot-shot fogger." You shake the can, then press down on a knob, and the can starts spraying out the vapors that kill the bugs. As soon as you have pressed the knob you leave the room and should not return for at least two hours. I think the cost was about $8.50 dollars for three cans. I'll try it out in a few days. Will put a can in each of three rooms.
