The red t-molding does look much better. Like you said, it's just t-molding... it can always be swapped out. It might be a different story if you were setting these cabinets up for show pieces in a video game museum.

I’m all for authentic, sympathetic restores, but looking at the comparison there’s no question that the red t-moulding looks way sharper. Good call. Fantastic restore job. I’ve just scooped up a Hyper Olympic PCB myself, and as soon as the JAMMA adapter arrives I’m excited to get playing!! Congrats on a fantastic job. Always enjoy these videos.

Thank you! I have to get better at keeping track of hours and mentioning how long projects take in videos. Part of the issue is I’m working on multiple projects ALL THE TIME. It’s one of my favorite things about this business. Sometimes I start one and it takes a while to find certain parts or decals. I can knock some games out in a week but most take months. I just pick away a little at a time on different ones. Good news is my next video is a restore and it’s coming very soon. And yes Buc-res should be everywhere!

Red T-molding looks good. Better than black, anyway. It seems likely that if an arcade had to replace the T-molding on a machine, they would have used what they had on hand before ordering more. So it seems likely to me that there would have been a lot of variations on the original out in the wild.

The Track&Field that was in my parents resturant when I was growing up in the 80's had a track ball for each player that had to be spun really fast to make the player run I remember getting blisters on my fingers from it. I have never seen another one like it.
@ElectricStarshipArcade9 ай бұрын
It’s rare to see the trackball version.
@tropicten7 ай бұрын
We must have had the trackball version in our local arcade in southeast PA because that's what I remember playing. I never quite got used to the button version. According to Reddit, the trackball controls were an aftermarket mod that some used because the run buttons would frequently break from all the wear and tear.

I remember the Track & Field at my local arcade in the 80's had tall "C" covers over the buttons with notches cut out so pencils and pens could not set in them all the way. Then eventually, people would loosen the collar and rotate them facing inward then file down the notch further so they would fit. Wonder if someone still makes those?

@ElectricStarshipArcade2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! From everything I can see online it looks like it was just a black bezel. But you never know back then. You may have seen a variant or even something custom.

@@ElectricStarshipArcade musta been hyper-olympics I was thinking of. I had a custom bezel made for my gun.smoke (capcom) cab. Cuz gun.smoke didn't come stock with a bezel decal. It applies to the underneath of the plexiglass. Enhances the game a little.

@ElectricStarshipArcade9 ай бұрын
Your statement is mostly correct. This game is a bit of an outlier though. This game does get the hell played out of it but mostly by men in their 40s and 50s. Kids, with a few exceptions, don’t play any of the old games. That’s why it’s important to have a good mix of both older and newer titles. The older games create a vibe, even when they aren’t being played.
