Track Removal on the CV! Chasing a Mine Run in the Coalfields!

In today's video, we venture across the Cumberland Valley Subdivision in pursuit of R610- 100 loads of coal freshly loaded at NRG. We take a look at some of the recent track removal on the CV whilst visiting various locations effected, all whilst filming a YN2 AC44 leader. I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I did!

Those torch cuts on the head of the rail are probably every 40 ft? Makes rail hauling so much easier as they can pick the rail with a crane, shake it and the rail will break right at the torch cut. Then, loaded on a truck or into gondolas. Works every time.

I live in Northern Ohio and last year CSX tore out The Akron yard. Left a few tracks probably for car set out or mow equipment.

Is this the area hit by the hurricane also? The bridge and river look very familiar. Former Clinchfield Railroad line ?

@@haroldreardon8070 The Clinchfield was the primary rail route effected by the hurricane. The CV has suffered from a lack of traffic for a while now and it seems they are taking what isn’t necessary right before that traffic increases

Are you hearing anything about how CSX plans to detour the deadhead run of the Santa Train this year? With the line south of Erwin still out, the deadhead run will be forced to take another route to get to Kingsport. Either up the A-Line to Richmond, then the C&O to Russell, and then south? Or run via Waycross, Atlanta and Knoxville? Might detour on NS from Knoxville-Bulls Gap-Frisco (like the intermodal train that used to run to Eastman would detour during the Clinchfield maintenance blitzes of old) or on up to Corbin and via the CV and the switchback, like the Eastman carload traffic would be rerouted during the blitzes. Santa run is 23rd, the trainset (plus the Clinchfield heritage unit) is scheduled to be on display in Erwin on Thursday the 21st for some Helene relief event, so the trainset would have to get to Erwin by the 20th and then go north to Kingsport on the 22nd for gift loading and deadhead run to Shelby

@@BurritoFarmer46 I’ve been keeping my ear in the loop, thanks for the info! My understanding is that the train will be routed via Richmond to Russell, where it will then run via the Big Sandy to Shelby and then deadhead to Kingsport to load and for the event on the 21st

The number of “abandoned” coal loading facilities is shocking! I mean, I knew King Coal has been under siege for years, but this really puts a face to the story! Very sad! As always, excellent video!

I wanted to add that the schedule has been updated, and the deadline DH was will now run via Atlanta, Corbin, Cincy to Russell
