I do not use brakes myself but know people that do. Have a great day and thank you for the video

Also often run coast. It keeps a small amount of power on at all times.

Awesome job mark. You kinda brushed on why you don’t feel much of a difference, with or without brakes some of your car have hi down force magnets and that makes a big difference when running AFX track, the rails are higher on plastic tracks then a viper or a router track where you definitely rely on the brakes. And also that where the diameter of your tires come in also. Hope this helps a little. Great layout by the way looks fast.

Thanks Bill for that information, I am actually in the planning stages on a new Viper track, will see if I get more use out of brakes on that track.

Nice track!! I've been racing slots since the early 60s and I never used a controller with a brake. I set up a track that I got track from viperscaleracing last year. I purchased DS controllers that have the 3 wires. I tried them with the brake.. I don't like the car getting jittery and slowing down so much when you approach a turn. For me using the brake was horrible. I couldn't keep the speed that I wanted going into a turn. It's like the car practically stops.. With the brake you can't feather it in or out of a turn. So, I then disabled the brake, and man what a Difference!! Now I can let the car coast into the turn an feather it through the turn, and then full throttle as I come out of it.. I will never use a brake again.. I don't know how other people like using them?? My lap times are much faster without using the brake!! Oh well, I guess to each his own..

On the Difalco controller the brakes only engage when you come completely off the trigger otherwise I don't feel any difference, the brakes don't get in the way of normal driving for me, I just could not really tell much of a difference. I am looking at doing a viper track in the near future, maybe breaking will work better on the Viper track?

I used the wiring diagram that came with the Viasue power tap track. www.ebay.com/itm/195278727041?hash=item2d7784e781:g:CMcAAOSwkohbcxPM&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4AorhqMuTOHp4HomsK8VNFHdlFGvNim0zNOEmkPSKyVa2y81XFYeDikErD7kgtjetUS7znanaVZMN6aUQCAHps67A1UHU3tqTylIy1RT%2FOd2WzG%2BpFTylmm9jho5%2B2ZP7ggiA7QF8Zc909TvrvCl5qItoI79l0G8TOZnqQjoRPI5Qz8ABp7gt28Jh446ZvPDg0aIHbyDWEaloi2EgDVH93KYsWMwW7T%2BfOH7fyyIJrPfuPrnXEaQbJjP6Zhl458nzmGslHDYqJp7g6xRS2CjbWeIBqjOvodOOCRqPvrPJOz%2F%7Ctkp%3ABFBM2KuZvfZg

Great videos! How do you have your track attached to the board? Looks great!

Thanks! It's actually not attached. I do have a few small nails in a few spots where the track was moving but right now it is not screwed down.

Thank You for the video. An HO set has come back into my life this Christmas. I went looking for info on braking and three-wire layouts. Your video kinda showed the finished product, but getting there is not all that clear. Also, the "why" of wanting a three-wire system was not made clear. Further, do you like the performance after all the work?
@marksslotcargarage6 күн бұрын
Since I was installing power tap tracks and was going to rewire I figured why not wire it for braking. As I advanced in the hobby and got more into club racing I could not live without brakes now specially on my routed Viper track. Brakes are not for everyone, unless you are really into competitive racing I don't really think you would get much use out of it. Thanks

Your layout/track looks great, I'm doing something similar on a 12' table. It looks like your table is 3/4" particle board, anything on top of the particle board? Foamboard, homasote?

I don't use brakes either, they just slow you down and make you lose the race ;)

Edit: just found your track power/draw video. Thanks for the video. Getting back into for grand kids and starting with the AFX Super 4 lane with Mega G+ cars and looking to maximize for them. Looking into controllers and want to buy once, cry once is usually how I do it. What model controller is the yellow one without the brake? And do you like the power supply? What is the model specs on it? And I like your colors for lane marking, is that regular paint or paint pen? Thanks again.
@marksslotcargarage Жыл бұрын
The controllers without brakes are Difalco DD505 controllers $89.00 direct from Difalco or off his eBay page. The power supply I use is made by Longwei, it's the LW-K3010D 30V variable 10 amp supply from Amazon, about $50 bucks, it is more than enough to run just about any 4 cars with power to spare. The lane markings are actually colored tape that you can get off Amazon that I cut into small dashes. The Difalco controllers I highly recommend, they will let you run just about any ohm motor car. The 120 ohm controllers that came with your Mega G Plus set will only run the Mega G Plus well, they won't be good for older AFX cars, Tyco or other higher end cars. Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with.

@@marksslotcargarage I received my AFX Super International track and the cars were stopping and stuttering on several places on the track. 6 15" straights have the metal rail below the plastic, and 4 curves as well. Bummer. But I was able to put together 2 lanes for the most part, except 1 15" straight with a big stutter.
@marksslotcargarage Жыл бұрын
@@JDL_2020 That's very surprising, AFX track is usually pretty good. Did you buy the set new? If so reach out to AFX support and they should send you good track.
@JDL_2020 Жыл бұрын
@@marksslotcargarage Yes new From amazon since we wanted it fast. I thought buying it direct from AFX for a bit more wold be smart, but we decided too late for a birthday. The box arrived with a large hole in it also, but contents seemed ok. I already sent AFX a warranty submission on the track, but was after 5 PM Fri, so will not hear from them till next week.. I might still return and buy from AFX if they want me to return it anyway. The Mega G+ cars are nothing like what the old cars were I had, pretty amazing the speed and control ability with the magnets. The consistency of the height of the rails was all over the place. Was supposed to have a birthday race Sunday so I bought the $99 set of extra track on Amazon hope it gets here in time Sunday. I almost bought the extra track with the Super track but not sure the extra pieces with it would be used. But after pricing the straight separately by the pair, it was a no brainier. Cant get any AFX track locally. Went online to look at buying cars and accessories used and people are proud of their HO used components. Looking for old car bodies I had as a kid, but not sure if those old bodies will fit the G+ bodies anyway. But the prices and shape of them that I have seen so far and not seeing many I had anyway for sale. The 4 cars in the set were all so different running. One car is just flat out much faster than the others. Not sure how long it takes to break them in. Found a 2 set of the Mega G+ cars on Amazon for "to good to be true" price, will have to see if I get them, new seller with zero written reviews. I should buy more of them If I could get just bodies for decent prices. The tri power pack is pretty good with just the G+ cars, but the novice setting the grandkids would need to start out with, the cars stopped dead in several spots. Will have to see when the track is 100%. The open wheel cars do derail each other as well, so looking for some non-open wheel cars also. The set came with teeny tiny colored squares for lane marking as well. I do have colored electrical tape but that can get gooey over time. The cars on Amazon I ordered if anyone is interested: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Z83FR6S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Do you have parts list for layout?
@marksslotcargarage2 жыл бұрын
I don't but I will see if I can put something together. I used track from both the Super International and 4-Way Split sets to build my track. It is based off a layout I found online that I modified by adding more 15 inch straight sections.
@marksslotcargarage2 жыл бұрын
The layout I used can be found here. www.hoslotcarracing.com/layouts.html it's the Tomy AFX 4-Way Challenge, I opened up the straight sections and added 2 extra 15 inch straights in each section to make the layout bigger.

One more thing, I see that you race clockwise.. I've a always ran my tracks counter clockwise.. Also, the outside lane for me is lane #1. I see a lot of tracks are set up with the inside lane as #1 That's the way I've always done it. Anyone else out there race counter clockwise??
