I don't have a lot of experience in the game but Map 15 is so incredibly difficult because of that super evil turn after the reactor, and I'm glad that Wirtual agrees that it's a difficult map.

I grinded map 15 for so long to get gold. What really helped me was the Altered Nadeo "Short" version of map 15.

@@GoldenKitSylveon So what I did was I grinded this "Short" version from Altered Nadeo for 1-2 hours until I got a run I was happy with. Then I opened map 15 in track editor and put a new start to where the "Short" version ended and grinded this makeshift 2nd half in the "validate your map". After I was happy with my driving in the 2nd half I played the actual campaign map for another 45min or so and then finally got my gold run. I definitely had a fun evening that day. That's all I can tell you. Good luck!

Console player here that started playing just a few days after it came out on console. For some reason map 20 in this campaign really clicked with me, despite being pretty trolly, and after just a couple hours of playing managed to get a 33.265, which at the time was 119th world. Being as new to the game as I am I have never felt so proud lmao, especially considering I'd never even broken top 2000 world before that map

as a very, very low skilled player, i think the first 10 maps are nice. sadly, i will likely never get to play the other maps since i will not get the required medals to unlock them. they look very nice though. i get that the unlock system is there to encourage players to grind the first maps, and it is definitely a me-issue, the system itself is good i think. i like this campaign a lot more than the spring campaign.

@@hedgesolo4977 that is very true, i agree. thank you for the encouragement, it's much appreciated. it's clearly a problem of understanding all these concepts rather than me not being able to execute them (correctly). i never played racing games, ever. trackmania was the first one, picked it up last year when i was 25 years old. by now, i think i am just too old to get it. played shooter games since i was 8 and never touched anything else, competed in battlefield games on the highest level but man finding "lines" on a racetrack or driving "alternative lines", "setting up turns" or "attacking corners", that is a completely different beast to get your head around. maybe, one day, it will "click" and i just suddenly get it. who knows. anyway, have a great time with this campaign mate :-D

@@christophsmaul2042 dude I'm 20 myself and this was my first racing game too. I started playing a year and a half ago and found slowly improving times and learning the concepts to be really gratifying! I'm not good enough to get all authors, but getting all golds was and is a challenging yet achievable goal for me. I'm sure you'll surprise yourself if you keep playing. When you start having those "click" moments (and trust me, they will happen, it's not as complicated as you think lol) I think you'll really start to love the process of improvement!

​@christophsmaul2047 you're never too old! I picked up the game in March. I'm 32 this year and I've authored up to map 07. Don't worry so much about the tricks he's showing off here for gold, simply drive a smooth line and you'll get it!

one thing that always seemed a little weird to me is the author times being hidden. I'm way more motivated to keep playing if l know l'm only .010 away from AT and at the same time i'd hate it if l was grinding a map thinking l'm close to AT when in reality l'm a full second or more behind. I sorta get the "mystique" behind hidden ATs but maybe they could implement something where the AT is revealed if you're .100~.300s off. They could add some sort of cool animation for it to make it exciting and to motivate you to keep going. Just a thought.

if you're playing on PC, you can use a plugin like the one Wirtual uses that displays all the medal times at the top-left corner

An open planet plugin to show medal times is the way to go. If you're on console, someone always posts the author times on all of the maps, that's what I used before setting up openplanet.

I'm quite a bad driver on trackmania, but this is the best campaign so far imo. A part from 04 and 08, every other map was quite enjoyable, and it got super hard for me on red and black

clear +1 on that one. since you actually have the red and black tracks, i can safely assume i am a way worse driver, and for me this is a lot of fun. however for me, 04 was the best confidence booster ever, got bronze on the first try. for such a no-skill like me, that is like winning the lottery. felt like an absolute chad when i finished that thing for the first time and the medal thing showed up immediately, not falling out the map even once. hope you are having great fun at the red and black tracks. maybe i will get them eventually, probably not though :-D

Im still new to TM and have only played the white and green maps and like 2 blues but i love how the ATs on the white and green maps are challenging but not crazy hard for newer players the past few felt a little to easy while the blue and above felt a bit out of my skill range very fun

I wanted to watch this video after playing through the campaign myself, but I had so much trouble getting gold on 15 I had to watch to see what to do lol. What ultimately helped me was Wirtuals tips and switching to a controller. I've played every racing game other than Trackmania with a controller, cuz I had found for the most part the game favoured precise taps and holds over smooth analog steers imo. But something just clicked this time around

14:38 XD . I had the same reaction (as did Scrapie too XD ). Really enjoyed that map. Like a ski slalom but I cannot for the life of me get that bobsleigh turn right. Always end up spinning a little and having to correct. I should add that I play on PS4 and opt to use the D-pad for steering rather than the analog stick, as I used to play TM Nations on PC and used Keyboard, so the D-pad feels more natural to me. probably why i cant do a lot of the maps though XD.

I wanna point out, that speedslides actually have some realism to them. In real life, tires actually have more grip, when they are slipping slightly. Optimum slip angel in race cars is usually said to be at around 10 degrees. So speed slides make much more sense than ice wiggles :D

The unlock thing is such a slap in the face for new players. Started playing like 2 weeks ago, and I have grinded the downhill engine off map for like 2 hours and barely got silver to unlock the red maps. It feels like I have no hope on getting all 20 golds to unlock the black maps.

What's new is that you need all bronze to unlock the second tier, all silver (everything) for tier 3 and all gold for tier 4. As well as catching up to popular map tropes, they make you hunt them all down to perfection. I love and hate it at the same time. I struggle to get that difficult map in silver, let alone gold!

I just bought the game today after watching you every morning for years. I got all golds or authors in training and then started the Summer campaign. My goal is to get gold on each before progressing. Map 15 is insane. I have a 50.21... 49 is unfathomably fast, at least for a new player. I have like a 10% chance of hitting the risky finish, and a much lower chance of getting that far. I dont know how you're able to stay on the track through those snake turns on the rounded terrain before the super fast boost.. Also, ran my first Cup of the Day today. I ranked mid 2,500 (Div 50?).. but continued to improve my time each run. I came in 21st. Crashed into the finish line 😅

Idk if you guys play the game or not but I play often and when you do campaigns it'll give you an average of your rank in state, country, world, etc. and I always get mostly every author time and rank around top 20k in the world. This dude's ability to quickly adapt to a map and get the author times so fast is insane. This campaign's author times are NOT easy either. A good majority aren't too difficult but there's like 10 that I struggled with for over an hour on each. This dude crushed like every single record of mine too besides 13, I was hunting that one and got a pretty nice time(30.448 which is still only #1 in my state, top 200-300 or something very close to that in the U.S.). And yeah, I'm not bragging about that, if he played the map for like 15-30 mins he'd easily beat it, that time took me like an hour and a half(granted, I'm on Xbox and can't use mods that show me my gears or watch world record times). In conclusion, if you don't play and want an opinion on how good he is from someone who's been actively playing for months to a year, he is most definitely like top 100-200 players

A lot of your firsts appear as you've seen them beforehand. Almost, like you had access to them before everyone else. 08 for instance. If you don't know what's ahead, avoiding the big round things is a pita. It appears that you have absolute clairvoyance

taking the red booster at the start and doing the 1st turn nascar instead of drift will gain you a couple tenths, wirt didnt seem to realize

My problem is I almost never survive the dirt part without a massive release or straight up crashing, which is a 4s+ time loss. The few instances I do survive the dirt part, I missed the risky finish.... Copium timer is easily good enough.. but I can never string it together in the same run.

Nadeo should introduce map bans into ranked. Where players could select up to a number of maps that won't show up in their ranked games. That would solve the problem with them unable to make difficult maps for the campaign.

the new locked maps thing is frustrating. I know im not good at the game and im not invested in improving as this is a game i casually play here and there so every campaign my rule has been to try for authors on white, Gold on green, silver on blue, bronze on red, and just finish the track on black and then i improve where i can. Usually i end up with 3/5 authors on white, golds through 14 and the rest of the campaign are silvers.

As a new player I was able to grind for author medals without much effort until 13. 14 took me more than an hour for AT. 15 forward I'm starting to struggle even with some gold medals, but that's when the fun starts to be honest and you start to learn new tricks. A lot of fun overall!

What are your thoughts on the medal unlocking system? I think the theory is good, but the requirements are to harsh, e.g. I have 0 desire to go for gold on 15, so I will never see the black traacks, even though, based on previous campagnies I have the skill to at least enjoy them. I think something like 60 medals would be better, so you can compensate for a missing gold with an at.

I'm not a great player, and I don't have all the time in the world to grind and learn, but it's a goal at least! usually my goal is bronze on all 25, just this time it comes with the caveat of gold on the first 20 too XD Thanks for all the tips!
