Drought, not draught. In British English, for example, draught is used, e.g., for draught beer, i.e., beer that you pump out of a keg and pour it into pints and half pints glasses with almost no froth at all (unlike the Germans and mostly everyone else...). The Americans spell it "draft". It also has other meanings, of course.

Many scientific researches n predictions make me amazed that at one hand we are searching life in UNIVERSE on other PLANETS and dying to find water ,air n soil there .BUT on other hand We are destroying n polluting our own NATURAL RESOURCES LIKE WATER,AIR n SOIL which are being given to us FREELY by MOTHER NATURE ..WHY DON'T we save our own PLANET and stop destroying things ?? What we need ? What our needs are ? Fresh food,pure water n air n fertile soil ,and these things are being given to us by our planet EARTH ..why we want more luxurious things for our life ? It is truly heart breaking that local communities always suffer after mining activities, leaving ruins and death behind. One day, one day that will change. Jesus said He will rule the last thousand years in truth and justice but with an iron fist. No evil plots will be planned ever again. I live for that day. The last thousand years of reign with Christ, my Lord and Saviour.

The answer for water scarcity is easy. Why not build a salination plant to turn sea water into a consumable one? Or the other way around, why won't industrialist take this as a turning point to return natural glacier water to people instead and use the processed water if ever they build a salination plant for industrial purposes? It is such a heart breaking story, nothing returns to the people while industrialist enjoy all the environmental exploits.

Transnational Corporations represent Stock holders and not poor people living in villages in the desert. Some DESALINATION plants have been constructed here and there, near big towns of the Atacama desert. The Transnationals are assisted by the repugnant Chilean upper class in ransacking water resources since the 1800s. Ransacking natural resources is cheaper than paying for desalination plants. However, there is a good thing : The Transnationals and the repugnant upper class are just promoting a bloody revolution with their imbecility.

The desert is a very unique ecosystem. Making it rain you would erode the soil, carrying minerals to the ocean wich possibly feeds Harmful Algal bloom. Besides, Atacama desert got an extraordinary event called Desierto Florido or "Flowery Desert", where lots of endemic species of flora sprout everywhere. If you make it rain, you would disturb this natural cycle. Additionally, houses in these regions are not prepared for rain, it's catastrophic when it rains. so, worst idea.
@mauricioleivab57813 жыл бұрын
That and in the Atacama it could only be used really close to the coast, because in the interior of the desert you can find only 2% of humistry, which is too low to produce even artificial rain

Is it because they are modern cities with all the services such as airports, universities, shopping centers, tourism, hotels, research centers, connectivity and people with a good quality of life? the documentary does not show the Atacama desert, life there is much more than that.
