300' used to be a full pull. Anything over that was in the "pull off". Now it seems like 400' is the top end. The "old" pull offs were what kept you watching until the end, and it didn't matter how late that was. Good hook, Greg, even if you run NH blue, and not the REAL Blue Power Ford! And I run JD Green, but have a soft spot for the Ol'Blue stuff.

I like the longer tracks makes for better competition! The old pull off style was fun but it did kill a bunch of motors and with the cost of those today I can’t blame them for making the change!

I’ve seen a few tractors get close to 400’ mark just depends on the dirt and if the sled is going to let them run

Ultimately, how they decide to set the sled up determines how far the longest pulls will be. With more weight and speeding up the weight transfer they could stop those guys in half the distance if they wanted to. But people wouldn't like that. That's not what they come to see. They come to see long pulls to the end of the track, and they set the sled up so the audience sees what they came to see. Longest pull wins. Doing it this way gives the people what they came to see, and like the gentleman above said, saves on the engines for those guys. And being able to accurately measure to one, one hundreth of a foot just about eliminates the chances for a tie. Not to say it's not possibgle. But highly unlikely.
