This has to be the single best wheel driven video on youtube. It's got a little bit of everything for everyone. It's got single engine, multiple engine, jet engine, radial engine and something with a bunch of turbos and belts. I'm pretty sure I saw a tatra and a merlin in one and the last guy with a throttle plate the size of a pizza pan is epic win.

which fuel are they running on?

Man, headphones on with sound turned up is WONDERFUL, and the last one that did the pull looked like it wanted to take off. GREAT VIDEO

This has got to be the best tractor pulling video I have seen on KZbin. I like the Green Spirit tractor !!!!!
@jcglessner12 жыл бұрын
I have respect for these guys and girls who do the super modified and custom build pulls but I'm a country boy born and raised. We use our tractors to work our fields and then take them to the garage and tune them to pull for the weekend and when the pulls are over they go back to the field. I do like this style of pull but they should be qualified as something other then tractors. Great video
@RickTaylorpopnstart13 жыл бұрын
Great video because its only about pulling and not about pulling to the sled, backing up, hooking, unhooking, driving away etc. Just pulling. Thanks for posting.

excellent video!!!!!! I love tractor pulling so much!!!!Greets from Turkey!!!

Wow, the gas turbine powered setups are pretty wild! I wouldn't have thought they would make the kind of torque you would need for tractor pulling.
@irus102412 жыл бұрын
The entertainment is in seeing all the engines perform. You get to see diesel engines, petrol engine with ginormous turbos, radials and even turbine engines they usually put in aircraft.
@Juiced87stang13 жыл бұрын
@SWATforce1 Distance, 300ft is a full pull, they add more weight and have a oull off And the sled they pull has weight sliding up rails towards the pulling tractor to increase weight to make it harder
@godzspeed13 жыл бұрын
Rodecks average 7000HP each in these applications(torque over HP), dragsters run lighter rotating assemblies and nitro - they can reach 8000HP(HP over torque). Gear ratio is determined by track condition, hard clay track = low gear ratio = 120mph. You wouldn't want to run one of these on the street no matter what the setup, HP to weight ratio is by far in favor of HP. A tap on the gas will torque launch violently at any speed. Weight box [alone] is loaded for track conditions - around 80,000lbs.

@VentoDriver erm its a radial, rotarys use the block as the flywheel and the whole engine turns around the crank, radials are very similar but they turn a shaft,
@CPS214 жыл бұрын
I see the drivers steering while the front wheels are in the air? Does that actualy do anything? Does it tweak the diff or something?
@CoffeeAndPaul12 жыл бұрын
HAHA HAHAA I used to live in the American south (Memphis, Tennessee) and I still love a good tractor pull. I think it's awesome that they've spread across the sea even though they're not really a sport. It just goes to show men are men and boys are boys the world over.
@DRyalyan14 жыл бұрын
@lolgfd wrong, turbines operate on the same principals of a jet engine but they have an output shaft at the exhaust of the engine that gets hooked up to a rear differential. many of these engines are borrowed from helicopters and vehicles such as tanks and APC's.
@StopLookiing13 жыл бұрын
@gumby1008 No, but when you are in the air, it normally turns left or right on the backwheels, so they turns the wheel so it turns when they hit the ground again :)

He is the sled operator. Controls how fast the box goes up and several other things. reveverses back to the start line. the sled is self propelled.
@gumby100814 жыл бұрын
@VentoDriver yeah, actualy getting back to my ORIGINAL comment, i said that it was a radial NOT a rotary because a rotary turns the block. and if you say that that 8000hp 142.5l engine with 42 cyl, that is NOT a rotary regardless
@jakewitter241511 жыл бұрын
Most are diesel engines (or multiple engines) that are turbo'd or twin turbo'd or super charged. hence the "turbines". 4200-6800hp. tractors are strictly for pulling competitions and cost an upscale of 120k to build.
@jonya26712 жыл бұрын
it also controls the spin on each rear tire and apply a little bit of brake to a single tire to turn it

I was there, and this video can not discribe how it feels when the earth is shaking when those double v12 griffin engines do a fullpull!
@MrPotatohead133712 жыл бұрын
The point is to pull the trailer the furthest.. If you manage to pull it 100 meters you move to next round. As you drive along, the load on the trailer moves forward and makes it harder for the tractor to pull. The dude on the trailer controls the movement of the weight, as well as driving the trailer back to the start after disconneting the tractor..:)
@Phisker15 жыл бұрын
Because, when it hits the ground you are able to change the direction so they always try to have the right angle on the frontwheels, but they also have steering for the rearwheels by using independent breaking systems..
@Eisenberg9914 жыл бұрын
@brety099 these are helicopter gas turbines, the wheels are driven the same way they drive the rotor of a helicopter
@the1laf12 жыл бұрын
They have two forms of steering, the front wheels and rear brakes... when the front end is off the ground the rear brakes are controlled by the steering wheel.
@Mike-0123410 жыл бұрын
Turbine engines seem to dominate tractor pulling
@thecoonzzz13 жыл бұрын
@gumby1008 I guess its kinda good that when the wheels actually do hit the ground the tractor turns in the opposite direction of the drifting.

eu pensei que já tinha visto de tudo, esses tratores são irrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaados demais!!!!!
@MrLaydownsally13 жыл бұрын
@TVDUDE33 he is making sure that whatever angle the front comes down on , the wheels will be pointing straight so as not to swerve the tractor off course . try doing a wheelie on your bike and landing with your handle bar/wheel across ways instead of inline . it will hurt
@bajsburken14 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily an aircraft engine, gasturbines/turboshafts can be used for various kinds of applications. Such as aviation, but also boats and tanks.
@barthoedemaker12 жыл бұрын
@vaultmantk most of the v12 and radial engines are from ww2 parts auctions. The V8 stuff comes from USA. And the turbines mostly from Russia.
@junniper314 жыл бұрын
@waltercelario Simple. You hook up the front engine(s) drive line (pistons) at the bottom of the engine to the next one and the last engine goes to the transmiton.
@barthoedemaker13 жыл бұрын
Okay for the americans out there, they are using: v12 piston aircraft engines, v8 american car engines, v8 tractor engines, aircraft radial piston engines, torpedo boat radial engine ( dragonfire ), helicopter turbine shaft engines, sometimes truck engines also.
@Swill212116 жыл бұрын
That's insane! Great video and great equipment!

For people who interest: The weight on the sleds can go up to 30 Tons
@birddoggarton15 жыл бұрын
The box has weight in it. It will move up to the front, putting the weight on the skid and front of the sled. Friction is the reaction.
@eyf505013 жыл бұрын
they never cease to amaze me
@grizzskoalcope11 жыл бұрын
cool stuff lol here in america all the pulling tractors are IH inline 6s or cummins inline 6s, and most modifies are multi engine big block v8s, cool to see all the different engines.
@mithories12 жыл бұрын
Its reflex. And besides, think about it, if that tractor hits the ground the slightest bit it could effect the outcome of you driveing off the track or not driveing off the track.
@MrPotatohead133712 жыл бұрын
the steering controls the ammount of breaking that goes to each rear wheel, making it turn to keep it inside the track. :)
@Tyconniendu5912 жыл бұрын
I think they are old ones. The most expensive engines are the supercharged V8 which burn methanol, or the prostock's, even the superstock's tractor engine. Some of the teams restore old aircraft's engine, fit them with tubocharger or supercharger, put a torque converter and go down the track ! There engine are like there babies :D
@barthoedemaker11 жыл бұрын
depends on the class, in Germany the biggest is 5,4 some 10.000 hp total, but mostly it's around 8500 hp total

Hi people. The machine at 8:00 is running a 42 cylinder radial engine that on a good day claims to be in the region of 10,000hp but with its reliability issues I doubt it ever makes that. In this video I'm pretty safe in saying somethings not quite right with it.

They have a brake for each rear wheel, Step on the left brake it turns left etc.
@piescrank15 жыл бұрын
ahh so does the box dig into the ground ? or is it a weight thing ? What makes it harder for the tractor to pull?

the funniest thing is everyone saying crap about this being an american sport. the title is "German Tractor pulling weseke 2008". Maybe reading should be a requierment before commenting.

those v12's or what ever they are, are no joke. They get it done. Like the turbine engines too.
@ComputersAndLife13 жыл бұрын
These aren't tractors, they are challenges as to what is thought to be possible. It all started with a simple tractor and has progressed much like monster trucks have. When they run these tractors it inspires the crowd to think bigger than they are used to. How long until you think these are running off of some ridiculously large electric motors, maybe from a train, from say a tethered power cable or something?
@jakewitter241511 жыл бұрын
the transmissions arent geared that way. there is 1 gear and at top rpm those tires spin (assuming the trailer isnt attached) around 80 mph. they bring the motor up to around 8,000 rpm and dump the clutch, so to speak
@junniper314 жыл бұрын
@spenatjonas The traction for paddle tires would be awefull for pulling. The tractor would be bouncing severely. The track is usually made out of clay/dirt combination. So it's a hard surface, which would cause the bounce if you have too much tread on the tires. Take a close look at the tires sometime, you'll see they are actually shaved down.
@nibortheyak12 жыл бұрын
I would love to bring my dad over to see this. Sure seems like a fun time and it sure looks like you know how to build tractors right. I do like the jet engine tractors but there is nothing like a great big piston aircraft engine!!!!
@Psycandy12 жыл бұрын
Yes, it gets heavier - a large weight slides forward.
@justasmackevicius76511 жыл бұрын
I wonder if those tractors have wome kind of computer which controls how much the front wheels come of the ground. Feel free to answer. Thanks in advice.
@beaudeeley11 жыл бұрын
I thought some of those were going to take flight! I guess you'd get the ploughing done in record time too.

@VentoDriver i know right, it was used in torpedo boats but i heard it was also submarines.

This beast has the diesel engine of a russian torpedo boat, 42 cylinders in seven blocks, it is supercharged, it is a 143 litre engine (143.500 ccm or 8.757 cui).. and no less then 10,000 horsies
@paddywagons10413 жыл бұрын
@TVDUDE33 you use the breaks to steer .when the front wheels are in the air. but you have to be some what ready when thay come back on the ground.... just love this shit man FREAKIN AWSOME ,,,,
@danthemanpatrick15 жыл бұрын
I know man. Ridiculous. I looked down the list of comments on this video a bit further and found that someone had previously asked your same question and someone who seems to really know what they're talking about replied. According to this person ("59crewcab") that tractor has two quad-turbocharged 29.4 liter diesel V-12s made by Continental. Apparently those engines were originally designed to be put into tanks.

Wow the Jet Powered tractor looks like it's from the movie STAR WARS!

does turning the steering wheel while the front wheels are off the ground do anything with these?
@gumby100814 жыл бұрын
@brety099 apart from, they do still do what tractors were meant to do, pull things, but no farmer has EVER used one in a practical scenario
@junniper314 жыл бұрын
@kickerl7dakota I believe from observation, that it has 2 V12 Alison aircraft engines with 8 turbo chargers (4 per). I honestly don't understand why uses those on them though.

@freespeachrulez12 жыл бұрын
@daxxas They use them all over in the United States, my uncle ran one, and they are not jet engines they are helicopter turbine engines.
@BassTurntUp11 жыл бұрын
If you ever watched a real show, you'd know that these can be found in America too, I'm not sure how many show's you've been to Ricky, but where I live we actually get tractor pulls with P-57 mustang motors in them (airplanes) and many Helicopter motors. but yes, there's the pro stock and the super stock where they are covered motors and typical V-8's etc. but I live in farm country, so we might have more variety then where you live
