Why does it wiggle back and forth? Is that the GPS trying to stay in a straight line?
@bobb63425 жыл бұрын
Grant Pluntze I think that would get annoying very quickly
@maartensgames5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, thats the GPS correcting and because this tractor has only 2 tracks instead of 4 wheels/tracks it is going to wiggle like that
@Watchyn_Yarwood5 жыл бұрын
@@maartensgames Interesting. I have never seen a tracked tractor do that before. I wonder if it is unique to Fendt or the guidance system it is using?
@Betterhose5 жыл бұрын
@@Watchyn_Yarwood The power harrow reinforces this effect, by moving the fixing point further back from the axle. This creates more "leverage".
@maartensgames5 жыл бұрын
@@Watchyn_Yarwood It is not unique to Fendt. If you look at the last video before this one, also about planting potatoes, you can see that the John Deere tractor is also doing this 'wiggle'. I think the problem is unique to this style of tractors, with just one track on both sides, it doesn't happen on the classic style tractors that have the tires replaced with tracks

Incredible machines which are the result of painstaking research and engineering. This is how we feed the world. At the same time we need to develop new methods which don't exhaust the soil. A situation we are now starting to see across the globe. Unfortunately we have governments trying to fix the problems instead of leaving it up to the farmers who know the land and therefore know the best ways of fixing it.

Spreading the fertilizer before working it through and hilling seems like an odd choice of application. Does anyone have experience with this method ?
@bazgino5 жыл бұрын
Indeed it seems weird. Hopefully someone can explain why they do it.
@donderbassie5 жыл бұрын
Im not a farmer, but maybe if you spread it first it gets mixed in the soil with the crop to get better results instead of it laying on top of the soil?
@Betterhose5 жыл бұрын
@@donderbassie Usually, when planting corn, a trace of fertilizer is applied 5cm underneath the seed. This way, the fertilizer is most easily accessible for the plant, because the roots grow downwards anyway. Vertical root growth is preferred over horizontal growth, because it increases the stability of the plant. Additionally, the plant can secure the nitrogen and phophorus in the soil, that is otherwise easily washed away by rainfall, when simply mixed with the earth.
@donderbassie5 жыл бұрын
@@Betterhose ah okay! But these are potatoes so they dont need the stability corn does. Maybe thats why they spread it like this?
@Betterhose5 жыл бұрын
@@donderbassie But there is still an issue with the nutrient distribution. When mixed with the soil, the ferilizer is too far away from the roots it needs to reach. And while the plant is young and doesn't have a very developed root system, nutrients like phospherous and nitrogen are washed away by rain. Not only would that be a waste, but also does it affect the quality of ground- and drinking water.
