Tim, this was a great video. I already had Deere install the 3rd function hydraulic on my 1025R when I got the grapple. Yep, it was not cheap. Your welding looked pretty good to me. And just an added note with Kevin's HydrosPlus extra flow pumps. You knowing that you probably would not install a HydrosPlus pump on your 1025R and you have your reasons. You still spent time and money to drive from Indiana to Arkansas just so your subscribers and viewers could see what is available for us sub-compact tractor owners. Tim I have been watching your videos for a few years now, and I must admit when I first starting watching, I said to myself, he is going to try and use an over grown lawn mower, as a tractor to do work. I can tell you over the last few years, I have had to eat those words, as Johnny 1 has more than pulled it's weight a number of times. I have an old David Brown 990 with a loader 58 HP, and I am amazed at how well it works for being a 1967 and ridden hard and abused for the majority of it's life. As with many older tractors it was replaced by a modern tractor, and although still used, it was fixed with bubble gum, and duct tape, leaks here and there, and for the most part, needed a lot of little fixes to bring it back from the brink. I have been thinking hard about a new tractor, and thinking I should get something over the 60hp range, as here there is no sales tax (15%) if it is rated for 60hp or more on the PTO. But as you can guess when you take that jump from 50ish to the larger tractors there is a $15000 increase in the sticker. After watching your channel I must admit I really do not have a use for a tractor that large, and if I was honest I would have to admit Johnny 1 is doing mostly everything I need to do, except maybe the loader lift capacity. The other option is to buy a gently used tractor 10-15 years old, which do come along quite often, anywhere from the 300-2000 hour range. So in closing I will say, you are a great asset to the tractor world, and bring great knowledge to others through your videos, keep up the good work.

I would use “T” fittings and couplings instead of elbows at the valve block so you can still use the valve as a rear remote. Nice to see summit is continuing to help the sub-compacts.
@rustycrone1953 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Should put some ball valves in so if you have a attachment on the loader that uses the 3rd function you can turn it off and on so it sends the oil to the front or rear
@wickedcoyote2713 жыл бұрын
@@rustycrone195 you would only need an additional valve if you had an attachment connected on both the front and rear. If I was doing that, id just have a valve with quick connects that I could snap in-line with the rear lines. A T fitting with rear facing female quick connects, would allow you to use the remote as either front third function or rear function. If you look at the X7 series, this is how the same valve operates the mower deck/3pt, and a front remote.

This was a great video Tim. Coupled with a new video "Choosing the right hydraulics" you did a couple of days ago all of my questions are answered. I normally like to go with oem solutions because the fit & finish is usually better then aftermarket. However I will be ordering a 1025R with a Mauser cab and thanks to you I will get the complete "ultimate" hydraulic solution from Summit....4 spool rear hydraulic with the Summit 3rd function and Summit Power Beyond kit. The only thing I wouldn't get (that you do with the oem 3rd function) is steel lines on the loader and that's ok. The complete Summit package looks pretty nice. I will just have to figure out how to mount it on the back with a Mauser cab but that shouldn't be to difficult. Thanks again.

You could, but you would either have to take your hand off the loader joystick to operate the grapple, or reach over with your left handle to operate it, taking it off the steering wheel. If your coordination is like mine and your brain can only handle one function at a time anyway, it wouldn't be terrible. However, if you get good at using the tractor/loader/grapple, you can do everything in one nice smooth motion. That would be much more challenging having to use a different lever to run the grapple.

Have you given any consideration to enabling a continuous flow mode for the third function on the loader (i.e. for a cutter) with the valve kit?
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
Have not considered.
@robbie46823 жыл бұрын
I was thinking something along the lines of, the solenoid on the return side could hold open to act as a case return line. You might have to up-size the return line to reduce friction.

Lets see, if we take the time warp back 40 years keeping present day choices I needed JD 1023R with ALL the the gizmos added: Front snow blower, tiller, loader, forks, stump grinder, back hoe with thumb, wood chipper, grapple, chain saw on a stick... If I remember the JD 1023R needs more hydraulic flow for that. I wonder if one could put a regular electric battery chain saw up there??? and many more tools. (and do not forget the RimGuard) Also a Ventrac with the MA900 boom mower, MS720 finish mower, the flex deck, large area mower, tough cut, collection system, leaf plow, turbine blower, snow blower, power bucket and dual tires. 48" XLT Country Clipper with joystick steering, Toro 5910 (AC in the cab and cuts 16 foot of grass at a time) eXmark Commercial 30 and other smaller things. I would stay with my junk trucks because they are cost effective: the job is mowing most of the time, not showing off fancy 4X4s I see some using these days. My new JD mowers were 20 times or more the value of my rusty trucks. I would however get a small dump truck and dump trailer. That is a good start on the list! I knew something was missing! Girillo G110 with rotary plow, 22 inch tiller, Caravaggi stump grinder, Berta 28" snow blower and 33 Zanon mower and possible other tools for getting in small areas and my own garden at the time. That is a good start anyway!! Clearly I needed to mow grass, however being able to clean up a yard that was a disaster with the JD 1023R would of been a vary big help! Cleaning up a nasty yard often got me a lawn mowing costumer.... I also would of been able to help more effectively making gardens for people with the 1023R and the G110 with rotary plow. I would keep my mowing on the other machines and use the 1023R to do all the odd jobs. Mowing takes up a lot of hours so I would want to keep the mowing off the 1023R because I would have a vary big investment in tools to do other things. In the winter I would of made a team: 1023R with front blower, The Original Tractor Cab, and weights on back but tow a small wagon with the G110 and snow blower on it for the side walks and I would have to shop for a small snow blower, possibly a Toro power shovel. I have done most of the driveways and the whole street sometimes so I could come in with a wagon to have some additional tools nearby. Snow plow trucks just had no place to push the snow. The blower just dumps it in the middle of the lawn in a few minutes resulting in less things messed up in the lawn.

We just purchased a new 1025r. We wanted them to add power beyond and third function. We were told we could only do one and not both. We went with power beyond. Hopefully we made the right choice.
@TractorTimewithTim2 жыл бұрын
That is incorrect. The PB kit has the additional line required to allow 3rd function kit. Your dealer is wrong. My 2019 1025r has both installed.

Having said that…now you can buy the summit hydraulics frk-jd1 which uses to power beyond to support both front and rear hydraulics! …for less money than the Deere 3rd function Kit. Use code ttwt for 5% off. summit-hydraulics.com/ttwt

Will the 4 valve kit adapt to a 955?
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
It should. You need a power beyond, which is definitely possible since the 955 supports a backhoe. Once you have a power beyond, just plug it in, and find electrical power. That is all there is to it!

Next improvement is to find a weather resistant joystick handle with more functions. Would like to see all four electro-valves controlled from the joystick. Possibly a four-way coolie hat in addition to the four buttons.

Now that you have the third function kit, this is looking more appealing for my needs. The one question I have is given the placement of the rear hydraulics, have you noticed any problems getting off and on the backhoe? Perhaps being a bit more robust in the midsection than you I am concerned they might be in the way. Can you mount both the hydraulic lines and the switch arm on the same side of the tractor? Oh and if you need a volunteer tractor to install one of these on, I would be happy to offer my Lil’ Jack as a test subject. At my expense of course 😬
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
You could mount the spools on the right side. As it is, yes, it hinders backhoe access from the left side.
@peterflippinpan3 жыл бұрын
@@TractorTimewithTim I really appreciate your honesty!! Perhaps a video for us "more robust in the midsection" on best way to modify this system? Maybe a choice of kits in the near future? What's your opinion on the ease of working the joystick between the John Deere solution and the summit solution for a third function? You always shoot straight with your audience so I wanted to see what you thought.
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
I think almost no difference. Summit has two buttons one for up and one for down, where Deere has a rocker switch. Doubt it will be any difference. I do not know about comfort in the hand, as I have not worked with the summit joystick handle yet. I will be using the summit kit on my next 1025r if that helps :-)

@@TractorTimewithTim I was wondering if you would be getting another 1025R soon since you do so much work with it.
@adamaho78163 жыл бұрын
One thing I noted on my Summit kit for the joystick handle - you can rotate the switch plate 90 degrees (they provide good instructions on how to do so). That means with the 4-button switch you can have the LEFT 2 buttons run a function, or rotate it and have the TOP 2 buttons control a function instead. That way, you can somewhat customize how the feel is and which fingers do what.

Tim, maybe you can talk to Sumitt to create a Kit that allows you to use a manual Throw A/B valve placed on to the diverter valve to let me choose weather the trigger sends fluid to the front or say a hydraulic Top Link. A/B valve is already sold by Summitt . It would just take a way to neatly mount the valve to the diverter body with some fittings.
@TractorTimewithTim3 жыл бұрын
Get the 4 valve kit. Use one for front, one for top link, and still have two left. No need for an additional a/b valve
@toddsmith30023 жыл бұрын
@@TractorTimewithTim Thanks but I already have the diverter kit and love it. And a 2 into 4 A/B is only $180.00 just need some fittings to neatly connect the Grapple output of the diverter where it goes to an A/B and then I can operate the Grapple or a Hydraulic Top Link with just the throw of a lever. with the top link seldom used it could remain mostly set up for the Grapple with the pull of the trigger

If you haven't already put screw on UV filters on your cameras, do so, they'll take all the scratches and in this case splatters and only cost a few bucks for the "insurance". I get mine at www.bhphotovideo.com. Usually on the front of the lens it'll tell you what mm size you need. I also carry an extra in my bag so if I'm in the middle of a shoot and the 1st one gets trashed I can quickly replace it. Hope this helps someone from having to replace their lens at thousands of $$$.

I had not considered that cameras would get ruined before another video of yours and you mentioned it. I do not know anything about these cameras. My guess is that the lens is the most expensive part and so getting a wield spot on it means a new camera not a new lens. Your cameras go into all kinds of dangerous places for a camera! You must have quite a large camera budget!
