She’s great. And I also enjoy the overall simplicity of the song with deep lyrics.

I believe in those types of things too. I have my entire household yelling out "Make a wish!!" when they see repeating numbers now. I was born in '89 and I remember how much they played this song, even those early 90's year. I felt the emotion in this song as a kid, but as an adult..I understand it. Editing to say that I hope y'all are having a great Spring!

This is such a crushingly sad song. Every time I hear it I root for the protagonist... and every time she loses.

So thrilled you're listening to Tracy Chapman, such a superb songwriter, musician, singer and person. Check out Baby Can I Hold You, Behind the Wall and For My Lover, my faves. Also she does a stunning collaboration of Baby Can I Hold You with Pavarotti which is superb. She doesn't compromise any of her integrity. Try and watch the videos/live performances of the songs as they are brilliant and really capture her. Great song and great reaction.

I knew you would love this song. Such a sad story of her repeating her mothers life, when trying to get out of it

I love you and your channel! Just a recommendation. "Magic carpet ride" by Steppenwolf. I think it would be worth your time.

A fast car to nowhere. A sad cycle of destructive relationships and continued disappointment. Escape isn't enough. Wishes can be self-deception. The affirmation of feeling good because a cool guy has his arm wrapped around your shoulder isn't actually going to make your life better. The role of caretaker of troubled men isn't going to be redemptive. As the song ends it seems to me she is hoping to end that cycle by chasing the guy away instead of leaving her kids with him and running away herself like her mother did. One hopes the guy will leave her so she can build a life based on her own agency and power.

Is it me or did black folks have more diversity in the types of music they sang/performed than they do now? Seems like just about every song I hear these days from a black person is rap or hip hop :(.
