In my own opinion, Tracy Lawrence is one of the most underrated singers of his generation. He had the unenviable task of breaking into the music business in an era that was dominated by Garth Brooks, George strait, Alan Jackson, Alabama, and Brooks and Dunn, but he made a go of it, and won us over. Yes, it's a great way to find out who your friends are. It's an even better way to find out who in your family you can count on. Car broke down in Columbia, Missouri called a sister in Fulton, Missouri about 30 minutes away. Was told by her and her husband that they wouldn't come and get us because of gas and wear and tear on the vehicle. We had even offered to pay for the gas. Ended up calling friends who were more than happy to pack up their children in there vehicle and come get us from the repair shop as we had to have a transmission. Sometimes friends are even better than family even though you always hear that blood is thicker than water.

When I was going through my separation and divorce and my own family was judging me and not supporting me emotionally- I had two friends who understood why I was going through the separation and divorce and they didn’t judge me but were there for me and they’re still my best friends now. One was a former boss and when my father in law passed away and she used the company credit card to get a plant/flower sent to the funeral home- unbeknownst to her, the person who took the numbers got them wrong so we never got anything. She(my former boss) felt so bad that when my dad passed away less than a year later after my father in law passed away- she took the time to go and get a plant and brought it to me personally herself- that was a boss that really cared about her employees.

This happened to me this past year. I was having surgery done the Tuesday after Labor Day. My Mom was out of town, my Sister wasn’t able to take off of work, so I thought I was going to have to cancel the procedure! I called my Best Friend of almost 40 years and he said “I got you Bro!” Not only showed up but drove me to my surgery and back home. Stayed with me at home until the Anesthesia wore off. One thing I never really got until I was in the military and lived on my own was this: A friend calling me up just to see how I’m doing. Fake friends won’t do that, but real ones will and I had plenty of them in my service days. During all of my five deployments it was not uncommon for them to come over just to talk. I first heard this song a very long time ago, and I decided that the kind of person described in the song is the kind of person I want to be. I don’t need appreciation/gratitude (although it is welcome). I think the kind of person described in this song would help out their friend whether or not they got appreciation/gratitude. I can’t control what anyone else says or does. All I can control is the kind of person that I want to be and whether or not I live up to my personal goals.

Yep,I've been there and found that good time friends are just that,around for the good times and gone the second the shtf... That hurt a lot when I went from 30 "good friends" down to 1 real friend and months of rehab/ physical therapy and Raul was the only one still standing... Not my sole biological brother,not my so called call me anytime day or night friends who had called me many times at work or in the middle of the night needing a pull because they were stuck or needed a ride or money for bail...

Yeah, he was one my Favorites growing up Through my Club years... He was on top of The World, but unlike Chris Brown, Ike Turner Or others... that had much worse assaults Involving Women, Tracy Slapped his Girl on His Tour Bus, during an argument Country Music holds all their Artists to the Highest of Standards, so of course they Shunned Tracy after that and it cost him More than most people will ever know... He’s human, we’ve all at some point either Slapped, or spoke or was just an ass to Our friends, spouse or whoever... but the Way they treated Tracy after that, was way Out of line and cruel. Bottom line is, depending on what generation your in Or what’s politically correct, will ultimately Determine just how much they want to Play GOD.. with Peoples Life’s ... Let he without sin cast the first stone! And then... sit down, shut up, get over it And let the Man sing! Amen

@Global Guardian Communications He not only hit her, he pulled out chunks of her hair. He was convicted in a court of law of misdemeanor assault. Just because Chris Brown, Ike Turner, and others have done much worse, doesn't absolve Tracy Lawrence of his guilt. Anyway, he continued to make albums and tour, but his music after that period was mostly sub par.

I have always prided myself on being a good person and a good friend. I thought I had a best friend and took her and her son out for every occasion and never thought twice about it. For years! I recently lost my job and literally can't eat or feed my cats and asked for help, and guess what? She's always busy. I'm so upset and immediately thought of this song.
