Im 63 now, but 12 years old on Christmas morning 1974. I emerged from my still standing brick house to see this devastation first hand. I was there that night, and survived ... My sister and I spent Christmas eve and Christmas morning alone. Our mother had gone out to celebrate Christmas. 2024 sees the 50th anniversary of Australia's most devestating natural weather event. These images still trigger me, but its good to keep the memories alive, for those 66 souls we lost...RIP ...

I left in '73..it still breaks my heart to see the utter demolition and destruction of the Darwin I knew so well, serving 4 years there in the WRANS.
