normally I just watch a few minutes of these instructional videos and then do my own thing. But this I had to watch all the way through first. I like how she is doing the hard part in real time, mostly. No rush and her calming voice…not to mention the familiar accent instead of the more abrasive ones from parts of the northern hemisphere is a relief.

Hi Tracy Beautiful tangle with pastel. My friend has just introduced me to pastel pencils. Not used to it. Listening to your tips on using them is helpful. I will try out soon. Thanks.

Thank you Josephine! Glad you found this helpful. Pastels are messy but also quick and fun.

I really enjoyed watching you create these beautiful tiles. I gravitate more toward pastel pencils than waxy colored pencils myself, so it's nice to see how you use them.
@TracyAnneWilkinson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I’m enjoying the pastel pencils. I ordered a bigger set for myself for Christmas (ha ha!) They are a lot quicker than wax pencils too!

How do you work with pastel pencils? Do you find that they smear? If so what do you use to prevent this? Do you need to use a fixative when finished coloring? What brand do you recommend? I am asking because I have been afraid to use them. Thanks for your help.
@sabertke2 жыл бұрын
@@ellenjampole1905 Pastel pencils are basically colored chalk encased in wood. When I use them for tangling, I use them very lightly because I want to tint my design, not cover up my inking. Their advantage is that they blend very easily and quickly with a tortillion. They also erase pretty cleanly with a kneaded eraser. I usually tangle in my sketchbooks, rather than on tiles, so my work isn't handled much and unintentional smearing isn't a problem for me. If you want to add a little protection, you may use a light spray of workable "odorless" fixative, preferably outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. (I've considered whether hairspray would also work, but haven't tried it.) 😉 As for brands, in my stash, I mostly see Stabilo CarbOthellos I've had since the 1980s and a few Bruynzeel. I also have a couple of General's chalk pencils that I got with a Zentangle project pack. I usually shop online at www.DickBlick.com, and they sell both individual pencils and sets. You can get a set of twelve for under US$20 or pick a few colors you like for as little as $1.71 each. BTW, thanks for asking this question -- while rummaging in my studio I found a set of Faber-Castell Pitt pencils I put away and forgot I had! LOL

Hi Mari, all of the details that you are looking for are listed below the video in the description. To see the full description click on the word more or you may see a little arrow below the video. Here is the information again just in case you can’t find it. Here is a link to the Markus Operandus: zentangle.com/pages/markus-op... Materials used: Tan Zendala or circle cut from card. - I used Strathmore 400 series Toned Tan, Mixed media Pad Black fine tip pen - Micron 01 Black Uni-Ball fine pen by Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd White charcoal pencil graphite pencil (2B) tortillions x2 Pastel pencils. I used Derwent White Gel pen I would recommend some sort of fixative. I use: Micador for Artists - Fixative workable Matt - clear, permanent protection for pastel, charcoal, chalk and pencil work.
