Hi Tracy. I love your garden. I am also a great hydrangea fan. Your flowers are fantastic! I love your pastel colors but I would have one suggestion. I think that some blue flowers would make the other plants pop out even more. Just a bit of a contrast would be GREAT! Your videos are a pleasure to watch. Thank you. I am a fan of yours
@TracysHomeGarden2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Peatie, I do love blooms with shade of blues and purples. I planted the Macrophylla hydrangeas and meant to acidify the soil to turn the blooms blue but it ends up being something that is not viable on a yearly basis. I have also tried planting blue larkspur and delphinium but they don’t seem to do well in my garden. 💚😣
@peatieginger80252 жыл бұрын
The same thing happened to me when I had planted larkspur in my garden. They just disappeared after the summer and never returned. My earth has a lot of clay in it and I'm sure that was the problem. I had thought about planting them in a pot and placing it in the ground. I never did get around to doing it though. Well, keep up the good work. I love to see how others enjoy their garden as much as I do mine.

Hi, it's the acidity in your soil or soil additive that creates the blue hydrangeas. The alkaline creates the pink. I had blue but wanted pink so I added baking soda to the soil and boom - purple - more baking soda boom pink! Love your hydrangea garden absolutely gorgeous!
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Katherine, pH = 7 (neutral) pH < 7 (acidic) pH > 7 (alkaline) Mophead blooms are pink at pH around 7. Lavender - light pink at pH between 6-7. Bluish at pH around 6. If you have acidic soil (ie. pH < 7) means your native soil has a pH < 7….so adding baking soda will help to increase the pH of your soil to around 7 (but just below 7; hence you see the lavender/bluish colour). Our native soil is alkaline (pH > 7) so adding baking soda will make the soil more alkaline…resulting in pH >> 7. This is why I add used coffee ground and ground sulfur to help “acidifies the soil” making pH < 7…hence the lavender. In the soil, the sulfur can get “fixed” by micro-organisms to make sulfate which helps the roots of hydrangea take up aluminum ions…making them lavender - blue. 😊 Thank you Katherine! 💚🪴🙏 Ps. I hope that clears it up a bit…that’s my explanation as a chemist 🧪⚛️.

@@TracysHomeGarden Been bingeing on your videos, just saw all of Tony's. I mentioned the acid vs alkaline b/c use said to add alkaline to get blue hydrangeas. I too know about all the ph balances, just made that comment so ppl didn't raise the ph hoping for blue (I have super dark pink ones now) Toodles, on to more Tracy videos.

I will definitely keep track of their progress from now on and report. $14 per 3 gallons plant is amazing….they go for $45 here in our area….even though they are now on sale at 40% off but have been long gone since the beginning of September.
