Trade approved Scales for Cosmetic Making

Trading Standard literally got back to me 5 minutes after my upload of this video completed… typical!
Anyway, they give me a link to the following information. Some of the symbols etc have been updated since the ones in my video, so take note of those. No direct answer to my question though except to say that they have to have the correct markings, which some of these amazon ones do... it's knowing if they are genuine or not. Further investigation needed ;)

Hello, thanks for this video. It's very helpful! It's so difficult to find a clear and straight forward information about it and they're all very much open to interpretations. I checked the Business Companion link you shared and they say this: " Weighing equipment used during a production process (for example, to determine the weight of ingredients) does not need to comply with this legislation, neither do check scales for consumers' use in supermarkets etc, provided there is a further final weight check over an authorised, accurate and correctly marked weighing machine." - So, my interpretation of this is that we don't need a trade approved scale during the production process but would need one in case I sell my soaps by weight and not in a pre-packed form. Am I completely wrong? What's your interpretation of it? Thank you for you time :)

It’s mostly to determine the weight of the product you are selling so that the consumer is getting the weight they paid for. This needs to be accurate, hence being trade approved. However, my take is that you would want ingredient measures to be accurate so I use them for manufacturing too. Ask your trading standards what they require. That’s the best thing to do as they all interpret the regs in different ways too.

Hello, If I would buy a more expensive scale from CSG, would the calibration also cost more, than if I would buy a cheaper scale?

They come calibrated as part of the sale. You’d need to contact them to ask about charges for recalibration, but I doubt the size of the scale would affect cost other than in terms of shipping it to them.
