@@andyn2854 just finished the game with my friend. The variant worked really well as far as the rules go. Of course there is much less player interaction, negotiation, backstabbing etc. with just two players. I think it is a good way to check out a faction or to teach the rules but TI doesn't work as "just a wargame" it needs the high player count to be what it is supposed to be. If there are just two people who wants to play an exciting space game I would recommend Star Wars Rebellion

@@MrFuzzymancerHey thanks for the feedback! So glad you played it. I definitely respect people choosing to play Rebellion over 2-player TI, though I still find exploring the Twilight Imperium universe compelling enough I would choose 2-player TI, especially knowing it’s preparing me more for the multiplayer experience. :)

thanks for making this, seems like a great way to get a feel for factions quickly too!
@andyn28549 ай бұрын
Thanks for saying that! And yes, absolutely, I feel so much better acquainted with the factions and have had the chance to try almost all of them with this variant. It also gives you a sense of what you could do if you had a few more resources and a few less constraints, knowing you won’t have the same options in multiplay; but knowing what’s possible with your faction is really helpful, I’ve found.

At 32:24, you used your destroyers to pick up infantry in an activated system, which is something you aren't allowed to do (rule 84.3). I guess the good thing about playing solo is that no one can call out rules errors! 😅 Thank you for showing off this game mode. I'm definitely going to give it a go.
@andyn28549 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for pointing this out - that wasn’t a rules error like I just forgot about it in the moment, I have never known that rule (84.3) and I’m a little shocked. Very good to know, and has me rethinking a lot - I’m pretty sure taking infantry from activated systems has been crucial to my understanding of factions like the Argent Flight, the Titans of Ul, etc. who have 2-Move ships with capacity. Thanks for the correction! Let me know how the variant goes for you.

Nice variant! Need to try this - I see potential for this to be a better experience than the generic 3-player version.
@andyn28549 ай бұрын
Thank you! I hope you have fun! I do think my typical two-player / two-handed game with this is more dynamic than the last 3-player I played! Next 3-player, I want to try still incorporating the same trade systems. Playing a full 6-player today, though!

@@andyn2854Hope your game went well! Got through a game with your Trade Wars version today and it was a blast! 3.5 hours with PoK and a new player (played with all stage 1s revealed at the beginning of the game, trying to cut the overall playtime) Thanks again for this sweet version!

@@derskuesYes! I love to hear this! So glad you had a blast. 😊 We had a great time yesterday! Full 6-player game in about 7 hours which I think is phenomenal! We chose factions ahead of the game and I set it up the night before so we went straight into building the map and playing the game, which was perfect. So many epic events over the course of the game and we’re all still reeling from the epic fun.

Thanks Andy, just played my first TI game and that was with your variant. Really enjoyable, we had a blast! Quick question, when playing my primary strategy ability, do I need to also spend a strategy token? Thanks
@andyn28547 ай бұрын
Oh wow, that is awesome! I think I just heard another person say they played their first game of TI using the variant, too! I love that it helped you get the game to the table and played! No, you do not need to spend a strategy token when you activate the primary ability of a strategy card.

@@andyn2854 Great thanks! This variant allows us to very easily get the game to the table and have a fantastic 2-player experience! TI4, easy to get to the table and great at 2-player :), something I'd never have thought possible!

@@andyn2854 May I ask you how much does POK add to the 2-player experience in your opinion? Thank you!
@andyn28547 ай бұрын
@@saviloic Absolutely. Originally, I designed the variant with just the base game, and it was a long time before I bought Prophecy of Kings and incorporated it into the variant. But I have quickly come to LOVE what PoK adds to the 2-player experience, and it's hard for me to go back and try it without it! Here are a few things: 1) Learning the Factions: The 2-player game is such an easier way to learn the new factions, which are all more complex and utilize new expansion mechanics / components which you need to learn, too. And if you can play 2-player a lot more often than multiplayer, that means you get to physically play that many more of the factions yourself. It's also a perfect way to familiarize yourself with all of the added components to the old factions, especially the leaders. 2) Exploration: There is so much to explore in Prophecy of Kings, with new factions, new planets, new action cards, new laws, exploration itself of course, and the relics, among I'm sure other things. The game comes to have this real eXploration value that makes it worthwhile apart from who it wins or how well you play. 3) Options and Paths: Because of the expanded actions and wild card elements of Prophecy of Kings, you have so many more options and paths, and the game is far less linear and predictable than the base game. This really, really works for the 2-player experience, which otherwise loses out on a lot of the unpredictability of the multiplayer game. I will sometimes play through part of a game 2-handed on Tabletop Simulator, and I recently tried the variant with just the base game and I was amazed at how much more on-rails or predictable the game was, especially the first couple of turns of expansion. Prophecy of Kings keeps the first 1-2 rounds really dynamic because there is so much that can open or close depending on what you find on the planets you explore. I highly recommend Prophecy of Kings, and at this point I think of the 2-player variant's greatest virtue being that it will help you justify purchasing the expansion, because you can more easily table the game and explore everything it has to offer even if you don't have a multiplayer group that can meet to play it more than 1-2 times a year.

Hi, i'm gonna take a shot with this in a few week, thanks for your work! It will work either with profecy of the kings?

Awesome! Yes, it works with or without Prophecy of Kings. I prefer it with PoK, but it was initially designed without it.
