After clicking Create Alert, how do you get the preview window chart to pop up with your moving average settings each time (as shown in the video)??? I can set them up once by right clicking on the preview window chart but I can't seem to find how to save them. Also, will the time frame match what is on the chart one clicks on? That too seems non-trivial. TIA!

Thank you Matt for taking the time in making this video. Two questions I have. I create alerts based on price crossing certain studies. Let's use VWAP for example. Let's say I have a watchlist of 10 stocks for the day, 5 of them are currently trading below VWAP. Can I highlight all 5 stocks and create an alert at once for these 5 stocks? Or do I have to individually right click on each stock and create an alert one at a time? 2nd question: When an alert is triggered (price goes above VWAP), is there a way to have the alert continue throughout the day without having to set it again? For example, AAPL crosses above VWAP at 12pm (alert is triggered).... VWAP drops below VWAP and crossing above it again at 3pm --- Can the alert automatically trigger again or do I manually have to keep setting the alert each time it crosses back underneath VWAP. (thinking maybe the crossover checkmark might be the solution here but I would rather it keep alerting when it crosses above, not below) Thanks so much for your help. Sorry for the long question but these could be big time savers.

Q1: You would have to make individual alerts per stock, no bulk actions that I am aware of. Q2: You nailed it with the cross over option. You could also use the "create opposite alert" function to automatically issue the inverse cross after a signal is alerted. Could inquire to ToS about a bulk alert setting. I can see how that would be useful.

@@TradeBrigade thanks for the reply. Could also technically make a scanner with the alert settings and set that watchlist on the side. I notice TOS has a little bit of a lag time when new stocks get added though. Will definitely be calling TOS about bulk alerts though.

If you replace the alert in the alert window, not a chart window you dont need the secondary confirmation, but based on your question Im assuming you want to drag it on the chart and skip the confirmation window. I dont know of a way around that.

You can set both! For individual holdings, or you can go out and set them portfolio wide. Really depends on what your trying to track!

Hey Will, at the very top of the condition wizard where it says condition setup, change the "D" from daily to "15" for the 15min chart. Hope this helps!

1. Open Scan Hacker 2. Change the Scan In Box to only scan whatever you called the Portfolio Watchlist you created 3. Put in your Alert criteria 4. SAVE! (must be saved BEFORE setting up alerts) 5. Click on the hamburger menu icon aHamburger.png right above the results. 6. Choose Alert when scan results change.

Excellent! Can you tell me if it is possible to set an intraday alert for price crossing a moving average? When trying to enter it I can only find price options of open/close, and not mark or last. I would be very grateful if you can point me to a source to learn how an intraday alert can be created. Thank you!!

Yep if you set the time frame up as an intra day chart, (5/15/30 minute whatever) you can have alerts on price action moves through the moving average on a close of the price bar. So for example set the time frame to 1 minute, and use the condition wizard to alert on a candle close above the 20 simple moving average. You set the timeframe where it is defaulted to "d" for daily.

Just set the aggregation to search for an intraday timeframe. If you want the fastest use the 1 minute, and on any new high of day 1 minute close youll have something added to the alerts list. Will likely require setting up a custom scripted intraday scan.

Interesting! I'm not sure that you can have a compound alert, but you can set a conditional order for things of that nature.

You would have to set up each alert individually. It would be a bit difficult to have one preset that does all. Example: Set alert on a trend line and specify that you want a text. Set another alert on a support trend line and specify that you want an email. Set an alert on a study cross, and specify you want a pop up.

Great questions Edward. To be honest this is where ToS gets a little finickey. Sometimes mine will load up with the moving averages sometimes it will not. I dont have a good answer as to when it does comply vs not. I do know a short cut I have used to sync the chart with the proper time frame is to quickly unlock and then relock the price. That should change the chart to whatever time frame you right clicked on. Not the most precise way of working, but those are the workarounds I've found so far. Wish I had a better answer for ya!

@@TradeBrigade Strange, the locking and unlocking of the price did not work for me but adding any moving average by right clicking the Preview Chart itself syncs the dates every time. This is the first time I've found anything so non-sensical (buggy?) on Thinkorswim. I'm going to call in tomorrow when the trade desk is back and will let you know if I find anything meaningful. I'm skeptical though, because nobody on the Memorial Day weekend staff seemed to know. I really appreciated this video though, thanks again.

Maybe this is useful to some: If your alert gets triggered it also appears on "Messages" (on top of the desktop version, and also on the left side panel when you activate the "Message Center" gadget - ). Nothing special. But you can detach either of the "Messages" windows and put it on an other screen (if you have more than 1 monitor). I like to keep messages in my view.

There is no way for a pop up that I have found. Perhaps a different web based platform like Tradinview could be coded to generate popups.

I do not believe that you can have an alert mapped to when something is added to a list. You can have the list updated, but not an alert when something is added at a certain date. That would involve having some sort of csv export that a custom program analyzes.

Yes, but it would need to be custom coded in a think script. Cant do it with the default options available.

You would just setup a conditional order in the order rules tab that has the same conditions as an alert youve created. Go to the order entry tools and click the gear icon to create a conditional order.

@@TradeBrigade The issue with condition order are 1. it doesn't allow "AND" conditions. 2. It doesn't allow a buy stop order below the current price. I want to entre a position when price drops to a level and starts to bounce.

It looks for ANY of the conditions specified, not a combination of the two... you might be able to find some other broker that allows for this , but looks like with ToS youll have to be at the screens.

There is no easy way to do it without diving into the condition wizard / custom think script for that particular instance. It can be done, but you need to know how to call for volume and symbols outside of the current alert setup symbol. ThinkScript docs will be your friend if you try to pull it off.

"Create Silent Alert" is how you get your order to be recurring/repeating, without getting notifications about the reverse.

If you use the "create regular alert for reverse cross over" option it will be forever in force, you will of course get the reverse alert, but its the only way I know to enable something like this. Hope this helps!
